Mavic 4 Pro vs Avata 360 vs combined capture for Gaussian Splatting

I tested the same industrial site with two different drone capture approaches. There's 4 stages in this comparison.

-The first reconstruction uses only Mavic 4 Pro images. It gives better overall site coverage, especially from above, but the building itself lacks close-range detail (≈1H flight time).

-The second one uses only Avata 360 images. The building has more local detail, but the surrounding area is much weaker because the flight was shorter and closer (13min flight time).

-The third version combines both drone datasets, which gave the best raw result.

-The final version uses the same combined dataset, but with longer training and cleanup to remove floaters.

The capture light wasn't stable, sunny/cloudy changes.

This is just a practical 3DGS workflow comparison for visual documentation.

Calling all Avata 360 content creators!

I'm looking to connect with professional drone pilots, cinematographers and hobbyists alike. With a view to purchasing and showcasing Avata 360 content on Apple Vision Pro. We're building some very cool immersive 360 tours and excited about what this drone can do. Comment or message if interested. Thanks.

DJI Studio

Anyone else having issues with the latest version? I tend to avoid updating for a while but accidentally updated this morning. Now I can’t export any footage at all without it closing after hitting 2% export progress.

Anyone got any fixes?

Victure Luma Ultra’s and DJI Avata 360 with DJI rc2! (immersion overload!) 🤩

My first experience plugging my Ultra’s into my RC 2 controller was a blast! Didn’t notice much lag and the image quality was insane! I’ll be spending some time with this setup.

DJI Neo upgrade to Avata 2 vs Avata 360

Hey everyone,
I currently own the DJI Neo with the standard RC, and while I absolutely love its hyper-compact size, the video quality is just not cutting it for me anymore.
I want to properly step into the FPV world and get those high-quality, immersive cinematic shots. I’m looking at two options right now:

  1. Avata 2 combo with Goggles N3 and RC Motion 3 (around €750)
  2. Avata 360 with the exact same combo (around €980)

Here is the catch: I have zero interest in shooting 360-degree videos or reframing sferical footage in post. I will be flying this strictly as a traditional FPV drone.
The only reason I’m even considering spending the extra €230 on the Avata 360 is the hardware on paper. It has a slightly larger sensor, a much faster aperture (f/1.9 vs f/2.8), and a higher maximum bitrate. However, I’m not sure how much of that theoretical quality actually translates into standard single-lens 4K video compared to the Avata 2.
My main priority is getting the absolute best possible image quality with good dynamic range for post-production/color grading. I also want a beginner-friendly entry into FPV using the Motion Controller first, with the plan to buy the FPV Remote Controller later to learn full manual/acro mode.
Is the image quality gap in normal single-lens mode big enough to justify the price jump to the Avata 360? Or should I just stick with the Avata 2?
Thanks for the help!

Just got the DJI Avata 360

Finally pulled the trigger on the Avata 360. I've been watching a bunch of flight videos the past few weeks and spent way too much time studying how people fly their lines for the 360 reframing stuff. Picked up the RC2 controller to go with it since I want more control over the flight path than what the motion controller gives.

Planning to take it out to a river spot near me this weekend and try some low passes over the water. The reframing in post is the main reason I went with this over a regular drone so I'm curious how much flexibility it actually gives once sit down and edit. I feel like for this kind of drone getting smooth lines matters even more than usual cuz if the original flight is shaky or inconsistent the reframe is probably not gonna save it. So gonna spend some time just getting comfortable with it before I try anything too ambitious.

Im not sure if there are other accessories that are worth having from the start. What are you guys running with yours?

Still lake with zero ripple so I tried a slow transition from normal view into tiny planet

I was flying over this lake and the water had zero ripple, literally like a mirror. So I tried doing a gradual shift from a normal aerial view into a tiny planet to see how the reflections would hold up during the transition.

Pretty happy with how the hills and clouds wrap around while the reflection stays intact. That part came out better than I thought it would.

Shot on my DJI Avata 360. Still getting the hang of this thing but if anyone has tips on making these transitions smoother I'm all ears.

Has anyone tested max load capacity yet?

I want to mount some different cameras to the top of the drone. Stitch flaws are acceptable, I just want to see what it can physically lift

Updated firmware today June 26.

I just updated my 360 tried a few things and the return to Home is dramatically better. It’s as good as my mini five now. I’m sure there are other things but as you know, it’s hard to tell what they’ve done.

Need RC2?

I already have the RC-N2 controller, but isn't it unsuitable for flying the Avata 360? You can look around using head tracking with goggles, but with a standard controller, you have to swipe the screen to look around, right?

River, valley, snow mountain. Zero post.

Pulled this clip into my editor and spent like two hours going back and forth. Push the yellows, greens go weird, fix that, snow mountain looks off, fix that, something else breaks. Then I put the original next to my graded version and yeah, the original just looked better. The colors had this natural thing going on that I couldn't beat no matter what I did.

RC2 no long displaying camera feed

I recently updated my drone and rc2 firmware and there was camera feed prior. After the update, there is no feed to my RC2 even after resets and using dji assistant on the pc to individually reinstall updates.

I’m stumped.
Anyone think can offer some help in resolving this?

Might be the best shot I've ever taken with my Avata 360

I've been flying drones for a few years now and I've gotten plenty of mountain shots but this one just hits different. The way the clouds sit in the valley like they're filling up a bowl while the snow cap is just right there above everything, I don't think I could plan this even if I tried.

Most of my older shots I was always chasing the "perfect" angle and they ended up looking kind of generic looking back at them now. The light on those green hills with the shadows rolling across, it almost looks painted. Low clouds definitely helped with that contrast too, just got lucky with the timing.

Probably going to be my wallpaper for a long time.

First time flying a drone. Tried my friend's Avata 360

My friend brought his Avata360 and let me have a go. Put on the goggles and it took me a sec to process what was happening. Push the stick and the thing just goes. First person view is weird, like my body's on the ground but my eyes are somewhere else. My friend was standing next to me telling me to slow down and be careful the whole time, more nervous than I was...

When my friend showed me this clip after I landed, I couldn't believe I actually flew it that far out. Felt like I barely moved the sticks. Thinking about getting my own drone now, don't know what model yet but I want one.
