Is lens replacement a deal breaker for Osmo 360?

I am getting the Osmo 360 at a very discounted price of $325 dollars. I have been following up and waiting for the prices to fall for months now, but it never budged it's $470 price point until now. I was about to buy it until I found out about the lens replacement issue, DJI has no official support in India, so a minor scratch on the lens and I would have to depend on third party repairs which honestly I do not prefer. I am also getting the Insta 360 X4 air at a slightly higher price $356, I am so torn between these two. I personally prefer the footage on Osmo 360, but the lens replacement is very easy on Insta 360, as one can do it at home. I would like to how fragile or easy it is to scratch the lens? I will be using it occasionally for vacations or to shoot some motorcycle content. I have seen some lens protectors online but again the reviews on those are super mixed, so suggestions from people who already own one are welcome. Which one would you personally prefer?

Don't give up. Osmo 360 is actually great.

When I got my Osmo 360 a few months back, I was quite disappointed at everything it created: the photos and videos are not as sharp as I expected. The low light performance is pathetic. Basically most indoor video footage are unusable. I went to a museum and shot around 100 photos, and only half can barely be used.

Yes, I might have the same frustration like any of the new owner have. Dji advertised it as near 1 inch sensor but in reality I felt like I got sensors worst than my good old GoPro 11, which is only a half inch sensor.

Over the time, I used it on and off, doing this experiment and that experiment. And only now I see I was wrong. Osmo 360 can actually do much better than other normal 360 cameras, but only when you are willing to spend time and test out all the manual settings.

My 2 cents:

* In order to get the best resolution, you have to set the camera's ISO to less than 800 no matter what. Photos, videos all need to do it manual exposure. If you just point-and-shoot auto, you will get unusable footage.
* Don't be afraid of dark. Shooting in EV -1 or -2 is actually OK. You can lighten up the whole scene in the Dji Studio or other video editors to make it look normal. However, if something is too bright (like the sky) and showing purely white, there is no fixing. It will always be just white.

* Use 10bit D-Log M in video. This setting is like a magic bullet. Once you enable it, the whole scene lighten up a lot. Sometimes the EV goes from -2.7 to -0.7, and the colors are vivid. I don't know why this is not the default setting. It really deserves to be.

Anyway, the post is for every new owner of the Dji Osmo 360. Don't be discouraged by the initial images. There is a lot more to dig in and make great videos/pictures with this gadget.

DJI Studio save file?

Hi guys, I am editing my first ever footage on the Osmo 360. I know how to export etc, but how do i save my "work" so I can come back and continue later?

I don't see any save function in File? Or does it auto save...

Also to add, how do I save multiple copies of the same project? For instance, I have one which is colour graded as one save file, and another that is not colour graded. I seem to only be able to have one at a time??

After China and India, Insta360 X6 was FCC certified for USA

This year, there will be competition between DJI Osmo 360 II and Insta360 X6 (CINSABXA).

Bolder improvements are expected from X6 as there is more space for hardware upgrades.

Osmo 360 still needs lots of software upgrades and DJI is somehow sleeping on it, showing low interest and not communicating

Defects from supplier?

Hi all, just got my Osmo 360 today, and went about playing with it, happy to have it!

However, an issue has come about.

The metal ring cover for the front lens immediately came off after testing fitting and removing the provided lens protector. After a quick online search, I found that all that this metal ring is only held on by adhesive glue.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue before? I'll send it back if need be. Or would i be able to glue it back on safely?

Thanks.

Dji Studio on MacOS

I'm on a Macbook Air M4. The app will not let me play te video's. But I can scroll through them with my cursor, so that's how I watch them. It's even set on the lowest preview quality, but it will not play. The app will hang for a few seconds. How to fix this? Is this a know bug in version 35? (the newest update till now)

Lensecap

I just got my Osmo 360 and the lensecap is a lot more stiff then I pictured it to be. You can almost not slide it on the 360 without rubbing the lenses with it. It shouldn't really be a problem, but I can imagine overtime sand from your pocket will stick on the lensecap, then it will be a problem. People have experience with this? I think i gonna skip the lensecap and just use the pouche

Is Loop Recording actually working as intended on the DJI Osmo 360?

I've been using the Osmo 360 on my motorcycle and I'm a bit confused about how Loop Recording is supposed to work.

My usage is very simple:

  • I start recording when my ride begins.
  • I stop recording when I get home.
  • The next day I do the same.

I expected Loop Recording to work like a dashcam: once the SD card is full, the camera should automatically delete the oldest loop recordings and continue recording without interruption.

Instead, when the storage becomes full, the camera simply stops recording and displays a storage full message. This happens regardless of whether I select 5 min, 10 min, 20 min, or MAX.

Is this the intended behavior, or is it a firmware bug?

To me, this doesn't feel like "true" loop recording. A motorcycle rider should be able to keep recording day after day without manually formatting the SD card or deleting old footage.

Has anyone else experienced the same issue? I'd also be interested to know if DJI has acknowledged this or plans to fix it in a future firmware update.

Newbie here, need help with motorcycle mounting 360 on motorcycle

Alright so I finally bought the 360 to add to my 2 action 4s and pocket 3. The lack of lens replacement kept me away and then I finally was able to verify replacement is not a big deal.

I film lots of my motorcycle rides, and intend to use it to film an upcoming vacation to Colorado. This morning I was riding to work and decided to run the new camera for a test of the night filming and just generally how it handled the motorcycle vibration. Everything was great... Until the mount failed and I nearly lost the camera. Fortunately I saw it and was able to immediately react to snatch it up before it went off the bike and tumbled at 90 mph down the highway.

I ride a Hayabusa, and because of things like what happened this morning I like the cameras to be in front of me. There aren't a lot of stellar mounting options that in finding so I'm curious what everyone is using on sport bikes to mount the camera on the front end of the bike.

I've had the base mount installed here and ran the action 4 up there for almost a year for taking hyper lapse of trips. It was never an issue. Ironically I decided to run the action on my helmet today in combination Incase the footage from the 360 was not what I was looking for so I caught the whole thing on video.

Studio PC version update has broken the preview player controls. The mouse pointer is horrible to use now because it's a grabby hand instead of a pointer arrow.

Please fix this. The pointer changes from grab hand to an arrow when on the playback controls. But only on the small areas you can interact with, the tip of the arrow is somwhere near the bottom of the hand icon so it is confusing and extremely frustrating to use.

Just make it always the arrow when it is over the entire control box instead of only over the small area that can be interacted with.

Draught already corrupted error

I was wanting to try out using my DJI 360 today to try and create a panoramic video which using the memo app I couldn't do for some reason. So I tried doing it on the studio app on my laptop using the correct USB cable and to make sure nothing was wrong with the SD card I saved directly to the camera. Now all I'm getting is draught already corrupted messages on the screen. I have reformatted the camera and the SD card updated the studio app and it's still doing exactly the same and I can't seem to find a way to edit this video. I can play it on my laptop as a raw file but I cannot create a new project using it. Has anybody come across this before and know how to get past it?
