[Online]Me and my friends are new to DnD but we enjoy using funny homebrew characters but can’t seem to find any games where GM allow that, any advice

So I’ve always wanted to get into DnD but with the friends I made and people I surrounded myself with I never was able to actually try it or get fully into it but now that I’m in my 20s and don’t give a fuck about what people think I wanted to see if I could get into it and I made a friend that actually plays dnd and she helped me design a homebrew character and I spent about a day or so making this character and come to find out most places I’ve looked for games at don’t really allow homebrew characters and was wondering if this sub Reddit could help me find a DM that liked working with homebrews cuz I also have two other buddies that are down to try it as well and ik some people are gonna ask why I don’t ask the friend who helped me make the character to let me join them and that’s a fair question but 1 I don’t know them all to well yet and 2 I’m not the type of basically inviting myself like if I’m not invited I’m not gonna ask if I can go so If they ever invite me sure I’ll join but if not I’m not asking lmao just need some help

[Online][Flexible][5e 2014][Neurodivergent DM] Assembling a group for long-term campaign

I've been planning my dream campaign for a while, yet always suffered defeat to the final boss of every TTRPG: the Schedule. So I am going to build a separate group of summonable people. So don't hesitate to fill the form.

Now, it's time for a few words about campaign. I am going to arrange Sword & Sandal sandbox adventure in a homebrew Antiquity setting. The story will be built around characters (so prepare your background to live through on session zero), with gradually rising stakes. It means starting with level 1 and reaching 12th or 15th.

I heavily appreciate player agency and creative approach. So non-combat encounters and social interactions would open most the doors. On the other hand, prevalence of logic and rule of cool over RAW makes it hard time for rule lawyers and overoptimizers. Additionally, certain resources and contents are going to be banned or reskinned heavily to fit the setting. This, however, mostly relates to mechanical stuff like classes or abilities. Races remain intact and I am open for a homebrew

[Online] [D&D 5e 2014] [Bi-Weekly Saturdays 5-8pm CST] Looking for four players

Fractals formed this realm, from the spirals that warped each wave to the geometric shapes carved into the bark; they exist both in the material plane and the spaces in between. A sudden plague has since marred this tiny land, Sinfodder, which was a microcosm of a far greater space that has now began its ruination. This corrosion beckons arms to action, seeking to end the rusting of this planescape– as denizens and structures that come into contact are encrusted into frozen statues. Beasts of burden twist into these rotted creatures, no longer in control, burdened with the weight of this blight that rapidly consumes and warps their physical forms into lupine-like creatyres. The once uniform and magnificent realm is in a rapid descent towards chaos and self-destruction, as the foundations that once created this world begin to corrode– strings and patterns lose form, untangling into chaos and dismantling the natural order.

The celestial body adorning the sky wanes, as the rust slowly consumes the very thing that paints the world in a radiant light and warmth. As day gets shorter, and nights grow longer, these rusted lupines stalk the planescape with a ravenous apetite. Orders for cities and bastions erected in high places, deep beneath the earth, or become seabound, seeking refuge from the beasts and plague that seek to destroy them.

The ancient city of Pandora, atop the greatest quaking aspens is the hub for adventurers seeking the cure to the Rustbound, a bastion of trees that reach past the horizons, the corrosion has touched the edge of the forest and is slowly climbing towards the city. Though it will take centuries before it will reach the city, the stalwart denizens of Pandora are in rapid pursuit of a solution to save the oldest and largest clonal organism, Pando. The forest of identical trees that singlehandedly connected to one root system.

Whoever you are, you have been afflicted with the Rustbound, and it is consuming your very body. Within decades, you will join the bronze graveyard of frozen statues until you find the solution. A voice echoes in your dreams, singing you songs of bewilderment and spiraling you into bouts of madness, tracing lines to ever-branching paths of possibilities, and beckoning you to look between the hundred dewdrops of the many-legged’s web as answers are in the hands of the lost and mad Fairy King.

This, is the journey to the Spiral of the Fairy King.

This campaign draws inspiration from Pixie Hollow, The Secret World of Arrietty, Redwall by Brian Jacques, Warrior Cats by Erin Hunter, Once Upon a Time, Guardians of Ga'Hoole, The Wheel of Time, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, Unfettered by Brandon Sanderson, Patrick Rothfuss, Wanderhome, Elderwoods from LoL, Death Blossom from LoL, Flora Fatalis from LoL, Coven skinline from LoL, South of Midnight, other media.

OVERVIEW

System: 2014 D&D 5e (You are allowed to use 2024 weapon mastery rules, 2024 spells/features must be checked with dm beforehand)
VTT: We will be using Roll20 for maps and character sheets (D&D Beyond is okay, but a character sheet on Roll20 is also needed), please have something that can easily run Roll20 maps with dynamic lighting.
Date: Saturdays, bi-weekly (So June 27, July 11, etc.)- with opportunities to play certain thursday nights if everyone agrees up to a week in advance.
Time: 5-8:30pm CST

We play bi-weekly on Saturdays from 5pm-8:30pm CST (central timezone), hoping to run about 20 sessions. There are chances for cancellations as I tend to be busy and have events over the weekend, but a notice will be given.

This campaign will expect an encounter every other session or where it permits, I am looking for creative players that love roleplay and creating characters that are well integrated into a lore-heavy world. I will do my best to have backstories be integrated into the world and character arcs/plot hooks in backstories could be explored across this mini-campaign. If you are a player that likes to make conversations with the other players and NPCs, interact with the world I provide, are willing to follow a complex storyline that we are telling, and actively participate in the game, then this campaign is perfect for you! In terms of characters/players, I'm looking for characters that are capable of aligning/cooperating with the party; arguments, rivalries, and disagreements exist, but D&D is a cooperative storytelling game, and we honestly can't have that if your character isn't open to adventuring with the party.

I'm a lenient Dungeon Master and I'm open for most ideas! All I ask is that you communicate with me.

Due to the scope of the campaign being bi-weekly, I offer downtime inbetween sessions which can be done through roleplay threads done in-text using the discord bot, Tupperbox.

HOUSE RULES

  • Critical Hits: Roll double dice (does not double any modifiers).
  • Flanking: Allowed! When a creature and at least one ally are within 5ft of the same enemy on opposite sides, that enemy is flanked. Each of the creatures flanking gains advantage on melee attacks against it. You do not gain the effects of flanking if you are also being flanked.
  • Opportunity Attacks: While typically D&D rules that only willing movement provokes opportunity attacks, I find it to be more fun to rule unwilling movement also does so. I think this allows players to use strategic thinking in combat when doing something that might alter an enemy’s position. However, this rule is a double edged sword, because it can also be used against you.
  • Healing Potions: Drinking one yourself is a bonus action, feeding one to someone else takes an action. If a player dedicates an action to drinking a healing potion, they receive full benefits (max dice).
  • Attack Rolls/Saving Throws: Meets it beats it. If you meet someone’s armor class, it is a successful hit. If you meet the DC of a saving throw, you succeed on the save.
  • Initiative: Rolling a Nat 20 on initiative lets you choose what place you'd like to take in the initiative order.
  • PVP: I will not allow harmful spells, attacks, or actions to be used on another player without first discussing the matter out-of-character. This also includes charm spells and attempts to steal from one another. I want all players to feel mutually respected, and so if PVP is something that feels like a natural progression of the story, please first bring it up with me and the other players involved so that everyone's thoughts can be heard and so that I can prepare accordingly.
  • Inspiration: I award inspiration for doing the recap, answering one of the weekly character questions, or at my discretion for doing something especially cool in game. You may only have three inspirations at a time.

CHARACTER CREATION:

  • Roll a 6th level character.
  • Play either a Fairy, Goblin, Gnome, Firbolg (Nymphs), Tabaxi, Lupin, Owlin, Kenku, or Aarakocra. Your size is Tiny.
  • Allocate these stats however way you see fit: 16, 16, 15, 12, 10, 8
  • Start with 175 gold
  • Fixed HP, no encumbrance. Milestone leveling.
  • Tasha's rules for starting ability point bonuses.
  • You may start with an additional feat, choose from the following options: Actor, Alert, Athlete, Chef, Dungeon Delver, Healer, Inspiring Leader, Keen Mind, Linguist, Observant, Prodigy, Poisoner, Skill Expert, Skilled
  • Start with an Uncommon magic item
  • All official and partnered content is allowed - if there's a feature/spell/etc. I don't allow I will let you know before taking it. I am open to looking over your homebrew, however I reserve the right to rebalance it if it gets too powerful. We are all here to have fun.

QUESTIONS

Please answer this google form: https://forms.gle/XpaR6isxSNggyKw19

I will reach out regardless after two weeks from the date of this post on whether or not we will be continuing further, I will not ghost. We already have two players, so we will be running a game with 6 players.

[Online][5e 2024][EST][Wednesday] Looking for 4–5 Players for a Dark Folklore Campaign – Crooked Moon

The train awaits. The moon watches. And something wicked waits beyond the lantern light…

Hello adventurers! I'm Ange aka Wry! I am a full time student who is looking to host a long term level 1-15 (or 20 if players decide to extend) campaign in the dark world of Druskinvald.

I’m looking for 4–5 players for a D&D 5e 2024 campaign set in the dark folkloric world of Crooked Moon by Advantris. This campaign will focus heavily on eerie storytelling, roleplay, mystery, dangerous wilderness exploration, and morally gray choices wrapped in gothic folk horror vibes.

Game Details

  • System: D&D 5e (2024 rules)
  • Setting: Crooked Moon
  • Platform: Online (Discord + D&D Beyond with VTT)
  • Time: Wednesdays, 8:30 PM – 11:00 PM EST
  • Players Needed: 4–5
  • Experience Level: New and veteran players welcome
  • Campaign Tone: Dark fantasy / folk horror / roleplay-heavy with meaningful combat

What to Expect

  • Creeping forests and cursed villages
  • Strange folklore creatures and old gods
  • Character-driven stories and personal arcs
  • Investigation, survival, secrets, and difficult choices
  • A collaborative table that values storytelling and teamwork

Trigger warnings: Death, Abuse, possession and other very dark themes. Please let me know in advance what your hard stops are.

>
What I’m Looking For in Players

  • Reliable players who can consistently make Wednesday sessions
  • Good teamwork and respectful table behavior
  • Players interested in roleplay and collaborative storytelling
  • People excited to build flawed, interesting characters connected to the world

No murderhobos, excessive edge-lording, or PvP-focused play.

Character Creation

We’ll build characters together during Session Zero to make sure everyone fits the setting and party dynamic. Weird, tragic, haunted, superstitious, or folklore-inspired ideas are highly encouraged. However there will be small changes made by the GM to your characters to help meld you to the world of Druskinvald. You may opt out of these changes ( they will be discussed with you during our meet and greet) but some aspects of the game play may be limited.

If you are interested in playing and are a committed player, please fill out the form so that I can get to know you. Also DM me so that I know it is complete and we can schedule a time to meet on Discord to discuss character builds.

[Online] [DnD 5e 2014] [LGBTQ+ Friendly] [18+] Two women looking for a campaign

Myself and my girlfriend are looking for a campaign to play in where neither of us has to DM. We’d love to play with other women and don’t mind playing with beginners, though we are both experienced. Here are some things we’re looking for:

- No AI
- Positive, friendly, and accepting community
- Safety tools and consent system

We’d prefer to play a more heroic campaign where PCs are morally good. Wednesdays, Saturdays, and Sundays are best. She is in CST and I am in PST.

DM me or leave a comment if this is something you’re interested in!

29 transwoman looking for a longterm online dnd campaign that is LGBTQ+ friendly.

As the title says, I am a 29-year-old trans woman looking to join an online group. I have mainly played 2014 5e dnd, but I'm wanting to branch out and learn 2024 rules.

A bit about me: I’m just your average nerd looking for some new friends to play make-believe with. I’ve been playing dnd for a little over 10 years now, both as a player and as a DM. Everything else is just basic stuff; I like to draw and build props. I play video games a lot, and probably have an unhealthy obsession with Star Wars, if you hadn’t noticed.

One more noteworthy thing is specifically about me being trans. I haven't been able to begin my transition yet, so I still have a masculine voice. To remedy this, I would like to use a voice changer during voice calls to sound feminine if possible, but it's not a necessity.

Characters I'd like to play: Most, if not all, of these characters I feel could be planted into any story, ongoing or new.

- Mae'Rear (pronounced May Re-ARE), a high elf wizard studying magic to become her authentic self and prove to herself that dreams are possible.

- Zirkel, or Z; a Tiefling Warlok/ bard that appears as a human. She made a deal with a succubus to be accepted by society and was changed to have the appearance of a human, when not working for her new master; then she is anything they desire her to be.

- Althira, a Dhampir blood hunter, or fighter/ranger if that's not allowed, that is hunting the vampire that seduced her, turned her, and pulled her away from her life.

I look forward to hearing from everyone and thank everyone in advance who reads this.

EDIT:

Sorry, I should have said this in the original post, but I am currently only available on Sundays and live in the US, Central time zone (Ex. it is 8:14 pm for me when typing this) Again thank you to everyone who has read so far and commented.

Looking for an online D&D group after my old one fell apart

Hey everyone,

I used to play D&D with a group of friends IRL, but over time the group kind of drifted apart and we stopped playing. It’s been a while since I’ve been in a campaign, and lately I’ve been wanting to get back into it.

The problem is that I’ve never actually had to find a group before. My old one formed naturally, so I have no idea where people go to look for online games.

I’m not a complete beginner, but I’m definitely rusty. I’d be happy joining an existing campaign or starting a new one. More than anything, I’m just looking for a friendly group that’s welcoming to someone getting back into the hobby.

Where do you all find online groups these days? Are there any good Discord servers, websites, or communities you’d recommend? And is there anything I should know before jumping into a group with people I don’t already know?

Thanks for any advice!

DM looking to start long-term, online campaign. Need players. Perfect for newbies.

Here’s some info about my campaign, looking for 3+ players:

Play style
*Mashup of 3.5 and 5th editions
*Casual rules focus on story, combat and PC backstories
*Campaign built around the party - play what you want regardless of what others play

Campaign Setting
*Homebrew world
*You help build it - make it as silly or as serious as you want
*You name lands, cities, landmarks etc
*You name most NPCs, villains
*You roll most random tables
*Gods loosely based on gods of Krynn but open to changing that
*Campaign takes place after a catastrophic event

Schedule
*Aiming for every other Monday or Tuesday
*7:00pm EST
*2-3 hour sessions
*My tech skills are mediocre and am open to which platform is used to meet (would like to keep it free)

About me
*Married 50 yr old father of 3 young adults
*My kids have no interest in TTRPGs
*Played a lot as teen and young adult - I DM-ed most of that time
*Started playing again a few years ago with some friends and their kids but it’s only monthly so looking to play a bit more - I have DM-ed the entire time
*I’m a “love is love” and “all human beings should have their basic needs met” kind of guy so I will play with anyone so long as they are not hateful

Looking for a nice low-drama group where I can play a specific character

I (29 F) have recently started playing Monster of the Week and really enjoy it. Sadly my group only meets twice a month for 2 hours so I don’t get much game-time. I have not had enough time to get used to playing this character or develop him. So I figured I’d post to some LFG forums, including D&D ones since D&D groups are much easier to find than MotW groups and I love D&D.

My character is a young private detective who dresses and acts the part of a classic movie sleuth. There’s more to him than that, but I don’t want to spoil it in case any potential fellow players are reading this! So… I am looking for a setting that allows for some Victorian/early 20th century stuff, like Strixhaven and Eberron do. Preferably on the RP side but I am good with combat too. I’d like something more lighthearted and heroic tone-wise. If it’s a paid game I can’t afford more than $10 a session. I hope that’s not too tall an order! I’m willing to make compromises but I’m just really itching to play this character. If it helps I’m an artist and can draw for the group!

I am available all day on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. Please message me if you have an opening! thanks!

Needing a new player ( Free to join )/( LGBTQ+ friendly)

I'm a DM with an established, online group. Previously, we had three players, but one is needing cut back due to LIFE. The current group is three men in their 20s looking for a fourth player to join our home-brewed campaign. I would be looking for someone that is comfortable with online sessions over Discord and playing on Foundry VTT (experience with VTT platforms is not required).

For Playing sessions:

General consensus is that any weekday, other than monday, we can play starting at 6pm Mountain Daylight Time. Weekends are off the table for sessions. We are wanting someone that can play weekly.

For the campaign:

The story is set in a fantasy world with a prominent theme being a world-wide war of religions. Various factions are vying for control in the world, and numerous figures (known and unknown) are attempting to realize their plans. The tone is, overall, serious, but humor and fun are welcome in the story. There is an established map of the continent and lore of the world, with each of the players having made their own contribution through backstories.

Progress so far:

The campaign has been going on for a little over 5 months. The party is level 6 with a few home-brewed perks called Fate Perks. You will be starting at the same level with the same number of personally tailored Fate Perks.

For your character:

In our Foundry VTT, you'll have access to the Adventurers of Ferun supplemental subclass options and the players handbook. Feel free to enact any character concepts within those books, and I would encourage some backstory from you. I have implemented Player lore into my world and used it to drive the story.

If you're interested in joining, then please just reply to this post!

[Flexible] [Online] Looking for players for a unexperienced DM

I am 20 and used to DM for friends a couple years back. We never took it very seriously and didnt play too much but out of habit i bought a bunch of stuff for it too including books and a foundry account. I would like to use it and ive always been interested in going more in depth and serious with it.

I would preferably like a group of 3-4 people and preferably around my age. Id also enjoy a very positive environment with patience (for me lol). Oh and i dont charge anything, completely free.

I will most likely be bad, be confused and probably mess up but id love to learn how to DM better. Ive always enjoyed building worlds, writing and setting up maps and such. I just suck at the actual playing part.

As of right now i dont have any campaigns or anything but id like to try with a one shot that i have written and then see where it goes after that. I have as of now hosted games of 5th edition DnD (i bought books for that version) and one game of cyberpunk red. I would like to stick to either but for now go with 5th edition as thats what im most familiar with.

My time zone is GMT+2. I dont mind being up late for a bit but obviously not too much. Add me on discord and il get some people together and make a server for the people.

My discord is mildamountofsugar

3 LGBT+ players (2 newbies) looking for an inclusive group/dm

Hi! My name is Mike (he/him), and i'm looking for a DM/group for my two friends Charlie and Lucas, and hopefully myself.
I'm an experienced player (25, started playing at 16) and artist, I love developing characters and backstories, and roleplay is my favorite part of the game.
Lucas and Charlie are both brand new to the game, and need a DM who's patient, welcoming and willing to explain even the basic stuff.
We're all LGBT+, and would prefer a group that has other LGBT+ folks, women, or that is at the very least inclusive.
We are all adults, and would rather not play with minors.

Our timezones are CEST and CT respectively. I am available in the afternoons and evenings every day (about 10am-6pm EST for starting time) except Saturday and Sunday. Lucas and Charlie are available any time except tuesdays. We are looking for a voice chat (preferably Discord) based game, and not play by post.
We're probably looking for a game that's story and RP focused, instead of mainly combat.
We are open to me potentially sitting out on the game if Lucas and Charlie get to play, provided that the DM is able to guide them without my help.
We are open to joining a pre-established group!
We do not want to play in a game that involves AI.

Please comment here or DM me if you're interested. Thank you for reading!

Anyone wanna be in a TRPG group?

My name is Adam (24 male) I wanna see if anyone is interested in a homebrew TRPG game created by yours truly. The mechanics are inspired by other TRPGS but untimately is of my design. I am the DM, and we can work on the characters at your convenience over a discord call or in person at a neutral spot whatever you want.

[5e 2014/24][Online][EST][Time and Day TBD] Homebrew World One-Shot

Evening (or morning),

I'm looking for players (4-5) for a my first one-shot in my homebrew setting (and may turn into a campaign if things go well).

A little something to set the scene:

>It’s spring, springtime again. 🎵

>Spring means opportunity and money as the northern island thaw and people pour into colony of Karafuto and Zaliv for a new working season.

>The frozen island to the north was rapidly developed following the wars of the mainland. Its bountiful resources desperately needed to rebuild all that was destroyed.

>The first icebreakers made port earlier this month. Laborers come to work the numerous lumber camps the colony was founded on, trappers and hunters head north into the wilderness for the exotic pelts and big game of the frozen frontier, and adventurers (like yourselves) to fill the shortages of able bodies to handle the backlog of tasks amassed over the winter.

>You’ve all signed up for a routine task, escorting a convoy to one of the more remote settlements. Its generic work, a quick trip into the stirring forest for a few days, surely nothing will go awry.

>Thematically the game is exploration/RP first, but there will be a fair amount of combat. There is more information, but Ill save that for when a full party is formed.

Player Info

- Setting: Medium Fantasy

- Length: ~4 hours

(PAID) (LBGTQ+) (18+) Looking for players for Star Wars FFG and DnD 5.5 Edition!

Hello! I (22f) am a new DM looking for people to run some games with. It’s a bit of a long shot but I am looking to fill at least one of these games up to help my own situation out a bit. Not only that but to be able to have fun and meet new people. I currently have 4 game options, 3 of these are solely my own, and 1 that is linked to a couple other DMs in a nice intertwined collaboration. If you’d like to join one of these, either replying on this post or messaging directly would be acceptable.

Monday 6pm CST - Star Wars FFG: Jedi Archives ($20)

This is ran on the Star Wars FFG system on Foundry/Forge. Foundry and Discord is required for this. You and a few others were chosen by a Jedi Knight in hiding to rebuild the Jedi order. The power gap of Revan’s Sith Empire has fallen and everything is in chaos. Fighting amongst the stars against evil alike. Or perhaps you become the very thing you sworn to fight off..

Tuesday 8pm CST - DnD 5.5 Edition: Wisteria: Phantom of the Feywilds ($20)

This is purely on DnD Beyond and Discord. You woke up in a strange land. Islands floating, plants growing sideways, a colourful mist fills the gaps of the land above clear blue waters. Inside your pocket, you feel a ripped up note. It reads “You think you have what it takes to survive here? You are now in my playgrounds. The fey king cannot stop what is already in motion. Let the games begin” - The Phantom.. will you survive? Or will the realm crush you within its grasps.

Friday 8pm CST - DnD 5.5 Edition: Wisteria: The Crimson Court ($20)

This is on DnD Beyond and Discord. You and a few other people had escaped the hopelessness of the Vampire’s prison. Bound by trauma and a collective hatred for them. The desire to show the vampires what you are made of by blowing the heads off the Crimson Court, a group of elites who control the vampires with law. The only hope to achieve this is by hunting down one of the legendary hunters of Wisteria. Maybe then would the rest of the realm have a chance of surviving the eternal night. Or maybe you become of the night creatures to reap off your old allies..

Saturday 8pm CST - DnD 5.5 Edition: Wisteria: Undying Hunger ($20)

DnD Beyond and Discord is needed. You found yourself at a tavern drinking away your sorrows. A few people chatting about how one of the lich lords had been making moves. Then one thing catches your ears, there is rumours of where his phylacteries were buried. A series of riddles of where they lay. It is up to you to find these artifacts and destroy them, then the lich himself. Maybe then you will be one inch closer to freeing the realm.

Looking to Join a Long-Term D&D Group for Sunday Evenings

Hey all, I’ve been playing D&D for over 5 years. The long running campaign I’ve been a part of for most of that time has fizzled out due to everyone getting busier, so looking to join a new group.

My favorite things about D&D to help get to know me:
-Roleplay heavy, with some combat elements
-Character driven story, where the players can really get immersed in the world
-Love learning lore about homebrew worlds and becoming a part of it
-Long form story telling, where you can look back at where the group has gone and what they’ve been through
-Cracking jokes with fellow players and DM

I’ve been playing for a bit, so pretty proficient with Roll20 and DnD Beyond, as well as being able to make a character sheet from scratch (how Jurassic of me). I don’t mind joining mid campaign if a group just needs a player as well. Definitely need to scratch that itch of playing D&D consistently again, and can’t wait to make new friends along the way. Please PM me if you are interested in me joining up
