A new custom card, that's worked well in playtesting. It doesn't whiff nearly as much as other 8D cards, though you still have to be smart about planning your resources. Personally I really enjoy the level of +Action flexibility this card can give.

Rules for Hours (🕚): Whenever the setup includes any cards with either (A) an Hours cost or (B) the "Order" type, players get a dial at setup, that goes from 0-24. (Easy to use dice as a substitute if preferred.)

At the start of each of your turns, you automatically get +1🕚 and may then choose to discard a Treasure for an additional +1🕚.

Hours (🕚) are an additional resource in the game. You can never have less than 0 or more than 24. A card's cost may be in 🕚 (or may include 🕚 alongside other denominations). This makes some cards harder to get too soon or too frequently. And you may choose to make use of the start-of-turn discard opportunity to get more 🕚 quickly, if desired.

Setup was eating 15 minutes of every Dominion night, so I designed card holders that double as travel cases

Every kingdom card lives in its own labeled holder, so setup is pull-ten-and-go instead of digging through the box. The holders stack and case up for taking the base set to a friend's place. Longest part of setup now is arguing about which kingdom cards to use. Happy to answer questions about the design, sizing was the tricky part since sleeved cards need extra clearance.

A random 1-cost attack action idea

Still in the middle of reworking Dark Ages. But for now, here a quick idea of a 1-cost Attack card.

https://preview.redd.it/6pwfjzrz8fbh1.png?width=1403&format=png&auto=webp&s=881f4d123559869f2e7d54d60580249eebbacefe

The card impacts everyone turns, until it gets back to you. Good to acquire more treasures, bad if you plan to remodel treasure cards or planning to buy something big. Good synergy with Poor house and Storeroom. It is a pretty wild idea, so probably a lot of critism. Also Potion synergy.

Is playing vs the AI on the app a good way to improve?

I'm wanting to get better at the game, is playing against the AI on the mobile version a good plan or will I learn weird habits from watching their moves?

Making 2 player last longer

My husband and I like to play Dominion together (we've been playing the base set 2nd ed but we have several expansions we'll be moving in to) but with only 2 player it feels like we move quickly into an end game where each of us buys a bunch of provinces and then the game ends. When we've played with 4 players it feels like buying Duchies and Estates comes into play more, and sometimes we even get to the point where the game ends because three piles are empty rather than all the Provinces are gone. How can we make the end game with two people longer, more complex, and more interesting?

Buy phase clarification

I’ve been playing this game for like 15 years and just came across today a basic rule that I was playing “wrong”.
- During your buy phase you play treasures and then buy. You can’t play more treasures after.

Granted, i only looked at base game rulebook so maybe an expansion rulebook changes/clarifies. However, if something you purchase or an event gives you extra card draw that draws more treasures, can you technically not play them?? That seems terrible and if so I will just house rule how I’ve been playing.

Closest similarity that i do stick to now is that you can’t go back to action phase without something saying to, like Villa.

Thoughts??

Edit: just realized that in 2008 rulebook it does not explicitly state this buy phase rule. https://wiki.dominionstrategy.com/index.php/Rulebooks

Some questions about Dark Ages expansion

I'm planning to make a redesign for Dark Ages 2nd edition as a fun side project. Im also considering to buy DA, so I have some questions.

  1. What are the themes of Dark Ages? Of course, beside trashing. Since it is the only set with 1-cost cards, I want to push this even further, planning to remove the 6-cost cards for a cheaper alternatives.
  2. What are your favorite cards from the expansion, in theory? And what are cards you actually tend to add to your kingdoms?
  3. Do you love the shelters? The ruins? The knights?
  4. What are cards that you hate most from the expansion? And would you want to replace it in the 2nd edition?

Usually, Dark Ages would not even in my radar of expansions I would get. My only expansions are "Prosperity" which is big money, and "Menagerie" which offer choices and variety. So Dark Ages usually not my cup of tea. But maybe some 1-cost would balance out my big-money cards. As well as the weird cards of DA would love the alternative Way effects.

Some analytics of what cards get mentioned in Kingdom recommendation.

Surely, some cards are more loved than others. There are 31 recommendations kingdoms for Dark Ages. Top of number of appearances, its:

* Rats: Appearing 11 times. That is about a third.

* Next up is Squire, 10 times.

* Sharing the 3rd spot, at 8 times, are Foragers and Catacombs.

This likely makes these 4 cards not in the rework options. Or if they do, their identity must be kept one way or another.

Then, there, the least used cards.

* Sharing the 1st spot, is Urchin and Rebuild. Their only presence is Dark Ages + base Dominion.

* Sharing the 3rd spot, at 2 uses only, are Band of Misfits and Junk Dealer. Both present for Dark Ages-only kingdoms. BoM also appear in Seaside-DA. And JD also appear in Guilds&Cornucopia.

This make these 4 more likely to get reworked.

Created a 3D printed insert for the original box so I can fit sleeved cards comfortably 😄

It’s been years since I used blender so I attempted to create an insert that fits the cards with sleeves comfortably.

Tried my best to get all of the dimensions right on the first go since I don’t own a 3D printer and I was having a friend print it

He had to print it in 4 separate parts since it is slightly larger than the print bed size

WIP: Split pile

A concept I came up with last week, but never fully fleshed out.

I'm curious what names the community here might come up with for the pairing.

Hello everyone, Dominion still holds up in 2026?

Actually pretty simply, I am considering buying Dominion big box nowadays, so I want to take your opinions. Should I buy it? Or go to digital version? I really love the box and how it looks, etc. Yet still cautious about the expenditure.

Card(s) tested: Border Fort

Here comes another idea: Obvious inspiration: Border Village.

So the first card was my first idea. But i tought: Is it really fair? So i tried version 2.

Then i was remembered of this card: Desperation. That is also 2 cards for 5 points, so this is just a variant of that card.

I think both version play nice. I like the idea that you can try to deplete 4 kingdom piles of the second version. And since you can't get a duchy, you are going to get action cards.

But the $6 cost version is much cleaner. I must say, it was barely used for greening and actions, mostly it was used for grabbing a duchy. Greening and action was less used.

Can't decide if i am going to keep both versions (and give 1 another name) or drop 1 of them.

Collection update!

I feel like I have finally hit the cap on how I organize my collection. Upgraded to two gamegenic boxes, sorted and tabbed every card using the original box inserts. Every expansion is here including recent second editions. I'm only missing promos.

Help me improve these

I made this spit pile and i was looking for some advice from people that know a bit more about the game. I also don't know that many expansions so please let me know if these already exist

Custom card for my Dominion-Bro

Hello everyone!

As the title says, I'm designing a custom card as a gift for my Dominion buddy. We started playing together, and it's now been almost three years of weekly Dominion meetups, chilling, and talking about life. It's been a great time, and I'm pretty sure he'll like the idea. :)

I'm planning to print 10+1 high-quality copies and include it in our drafts.

He enjoys building engines with +Actions cards, as well as versatile, multi-purpose cards or cards like Band of Misfits. This is kind of the starting point

What do you think? Do you have any suggestions? I'd like the card to be fun to play, it doesent need to be perfectly balanced.

(The wording on the card is probably not perfect, but the final version will be printed in Italian anyway)

Thank you all!

Fan mechanic: Forks and Paths

A two-part landscape. When you add a Fork to your game, add two random Paths.

At the start of the game, each player puts their token on one of the two Paths (players pick at the same time. Multiple players can pick the same Path).

During the game, whenever the Fork's trigger happens to a player, they get their chosen Path's effect.

Inspired by u/RiverInhofe's idea of Faiths - https://www.reddit.com/r/dominion/comments/1uj9fuw/new_landscape_cards_faiths_looking_for_feedback/

Arbitrage

Each player starts the game with exactly two Arbitrage tokens in their color. Arbitrage gaining is not optional.
