What could go wrong?

What could go wrong?

Really what could go wrong? The selling price is as good as the dereg value. Worse come to worst, call a tow truck and send to scrapyard.

What am I missing? I am not intending to buy, purely for discussion but you are free to go ahead if you have 29k lying around.

Do you think there should be a restructuring in TP and LTA?

Honestly, with the amount of shitty drivers on the road. What are they even doing? Always focusing on speeding speeding speeding. But there are idiots who dont even signal to change lane, bus drivers getting entitled eventhough they dont have the right of wah when exitin the bus stop, bus speeding and hard braking, lorry drivers speeding and taking forever to over take. Then there is the malaysian motorbike, if they can speed, why cant we? Stop focusing on the FUCKIN DRIVER THAT SPEED there soo much terrible driver that you can fine and get money out of. The amount of traffic offences one can see within an hour i think could amount to or even more then people getting speeding tickets.

Tldr; change focus on terrible driver rathar than always emphising on not speeding. Honestly, i find that they are doing a terrible job to keep the roads safe. Like at this point just do fucking do jackshit honestly.

Idw to hear ceca this ceca that, idgaf about ceca, taxi drivers most arent ceca so point is not valid. Cant TP and LTA focus on idiotic drivers then people speeding? How many people need to dieor get into an accident coz by idiots b4 TP and LTA take action?

Also to the mods idk if this the right flair, so my bad if it is not.

Renew COE for 5 years or Buy New Car now?

I'm currently driving a Toyota Wish 1.8, COE is expiring next year Feb. My mileage is only 60k as I seldom drives my car. Usually only send kids to school and work. I'm actually thinking of getting BYD M6 or the Tesla Model Y L as i need minimally 6 seater. But with COE prices at almost 130K. Will it be better if i just extend my COE for 5 years and wait? And is renewing COE cheaper abit also? Thanks for your kind advice and opinions.

Cushy Spaceship-Like Car Enjoyers

What I enjoy in a car is a cushy, plush-feeling interior and a quiet, insulated ride. I don't discuss cars much as most folks around me IRL are not interested, so I don't know if I'm in the minority here.

So! Would love to hear from similar-minded folks in this sub: what are cars like this that come to mind, or that you have enjoyed before? Particularly, how do the higher trims/specs of the JP/KOR makers fare in your view?

All perspectives are welcome!

LTA is removing traffic cameras except at Causeway and 2nd Link

I wonder why... save cost? They'd just added the TPE and Loyang area cameras last year.

Personal loan vs car loan

Planning to buy a car from a private seller and thus was looked into getting a car loan directly from the bank. What surprises me is that the rates are effectively no different from what’s offered by car dealers. I have always assumed that car dealer takes commission from brokering loan and thus the interest rate includes a buffer for commission.

What also surprises me is that I can get personal loan for less interest rate ( 1% pa / EIR 2.2% for personal loan vs car loan of around 2.48 pa / EIR 4.55%). Which is unsecured loan charging lower rates than secured ?

The only catch I can think of is personal loan quantum is probably lower and tenor shorter ? What else am I missing here ?

Safest 3-carseat configuration?

Hi folks, not sure if anyone has been in my shoes & can help me with this conundrum --

We drive a Toyota Wish, have twin 2.5yo toddlers & are expecting a third child soon. How might you position the 3 carseats to maximise safety?

* Twins are small-sized (12Kg) & still in rear-facing (RF) seats, middle row. Will forward-face (FF) if no choice, but prefer RF as long as possible

* Definitely cannot fit 3 RF seats in middle row

* We regularly need to access back row for dog, helper, grandparents

* I think carseat in first row shotgun is not legal in Sg?

My options seem to be these:

  1. Fit 2 RF + 1 FF slim soft travel carseat (urban kanga) in mid row. but this compromises the sole FF child since it's not a proper carseat, also it's in the most exposed middle seat.

  2. Put newborn RF in mid row middle seat, but flanked by proper FF seats. FF is not ideal for the twins, but probably most acceptable even in the event of a front /rear collision. (Don't even know how to put in 3 kids like this. lmk if you've done this successfully)

  3. Keep 2 RF in mid row flanks, 1 RF in back row. This should theoretically also be safe if no car crash. But in the event of a rear collision, there is no crunch space at all, & my heart just can't... Not sure if I'm being overly paranoid here.

Which would you guys choose? Am I missing out a possible safer config?

Also, might anyone have suggestion or recs on how/where I can improve rear-end collision safety for my Wish? E.g. reinforce bumper, strut bars. Love the Wish but it's no conti car.

Appreciate any advice! Thank you!

ETA: Thanks all for your suggestions! Front seat was not something i considered before, will definitely be thinking about this!

not enough practical lessons

hi! I booked my bbdc practical slots last December for may-June. im currently at stage 3.1 but only have 5 lessons left booked. in total i had booked 18 (1 over the minimum lessons required for 3A).

if touch wood im unable to finish the syllabus in that amount of time, would i be required to book more lessons (possibly delaying my chances of getting my license by 5-6 months)

Im quite confident in my ability to drive on the road and really only need circuit practice. are there any other ways i could get circuit practice (ie in other centres) without having to wait?

ive heard of the cdc express course but im it sure logistically if that is sound in my circumstance.

i would hopefully like to get my license by august as i start uni then. any advice would be appreciated

how do i convince my mom to allow me to take my 2b license

hey sporeans, i am a 18 y/o female who really intends on taking her license. ok so i have been super interested in motorcycles ever since the age of 15(i know its not that long ago but pls bear with me 🥲) ok so ever since i turned 18 i have been asking my dad that i really want to take my license. some background infos is that my dad knows how much i really want to take my license and ride a bike, but my mom on the other hand dont see the why i should have it. but here's the thing , ever since i started tertiary i have been leaving super early to avoid the traffic congestion ,as early as 6am (and also so i could have a sit in the bus😀..) and especially in nursing, i have no time to actually study because im leaving super early like alm every day (meaning i have to sleep early) and i end sch like what 7pm.. yes i get my mother's concerns , i cant deny the fact that if i ride a motor i wont appear under a lorry and ppl wont just swerve in on me. but my mom is a understanding person. she say i have to convince her that by taking my 2b i will be safe and not die. so what should i tell her. yes i can just take it behind her back but im not that kind of person lah.

Coe bidding norms?

First time buying a car with non guaranteed 6 bid COE. Place a deposit with an established AD at the time where COE A was 118k.

First bid submitted - 88k.

Second bid submitted - 89k.

Third bid - no bid submitted.

Granted COE are on an uptrend. But bids are what some people would call lowballing and no bid this round.

Is this normal? Just like to hear some perspective.

Realistic timeframe to get a license

Hello, I’m currently working overseas and where I am now takes almost 2 years just to get a full licence, so I’m considering getting it in Singapore first and converting it later.

For those who recently got their class 3 license, how long did the whole process take from enrolment to passing TP? Is 3–6 months still realistic or are the waiting times much worse now? Not really worried about the cost just of the waiting time.

Renew COE or enter into EV?

I have been wondering if it is worthwhile to get EV now but could not make a firm decision.

Some context:

Current car Elantra 1.5yr to go, parf rebate is $6k end of 10 years and car body can sell about $2-2.5k getting me at least $8k back if I choose to scrap.
Current mileage already about 210k.
Most of the car wear and tear parts have been replaced last or this year.
Insurance is about $500 and road tax $740 per year.
Regular maintenance done and car is good as new despite the high mileage.

Options available:

If I choose to renew = gamble on whatever COE might be towards end of next year (Praying for good review done and Cat A COE to drop back to around 100k?)

or

Buy a new EV now while rebate is $30k and able to "upgrade" to SUV like Vigo at around $160k+, sell off the Elantra for about $20k+.

or

Wait till next year and buy a new EV after scrapping current car.

1 Day Car Rental for Students

Hello, I just want to ask what's the best car rental service that we could avail for just 1 day in SG? Im from the Philippines and we're travelling to Malaysia first then Singapore for a university and technical visit and my friends and I plan on renting a car to drive around SG for sight visits for only a day and get to experience driving abroad. We're new to renting vehicles, but not new to driving (3-4 years of experience in PH). Any recommendations, experiences, insurance to go too, and/or if we're better just taking public transport or ride-hailing service like Grab? Thanks!
