Is Dina, Soul Steeper the best commander for fast 2-card infinite death loops?

- Her color identity is fantastic for tutoring the other card needed.

- She's very cheap (2cmc)

- Can death loop with either of 2 cards (Exquisite Blood and Bloodthirsty Conqueror)

- The only other requisite after having the two cards on the field is gaining life or dealing damage to a player.

- She's very pretty.

Ultra budget decks?

Hi, I wanna test DC with my brothers so I need to make some ultra budget decks, basically no staple, no duals, no reserved list, no FOW, no FON, no fetchlands, maybe nothing over 5 bucks per card, but the deck should feel like a deck and not just some random cards assembled, any decklists or suggestions? Thanks

Favorite Archetype

Yesterday I Acquired The Legendary ARC-V Decks, and out of Creative Curiosity I did a writing exercise about my Top 5 Favorite Archetypes - Mine Are:

  1. Elemental Heroes

  2. Utopia

  3. Speedroid

  4. Battlin’ Boxer

  5. Code Talker

and my Honorable Mentions are:

Odd-Eyes, Blackwing, Stardust, Superheavy Samurai & Lunalight

So I wanna ask any Fellow Duelists and Card Collectors out there - Of All The Archetypes we’ve seen, which Top 5 Stand out as your favorites?

Migrating "antisocial" decks to duel commander

Hello everyone!

I've been playing Magic for a loooong time, although I took a very long break, as I'm sure some of you have as well. I've been playing Commander for about five years now, and for quite a while it was the only constructed format I played.

Lately, though, I've been missing the feeling of playing 1v1 in person. It's just a different kind of game.

Over the years, I've naturally gravitated towards more "social" Commander decks: decks that focus on the multiplayer aspect and try to create an engaging game that doesn't drag on forever, without going into cEDH territory (yet).

Interestingly, some of my older decks have gone in the opposite direction. I have a Grand Arbiter Augustin IV deck and a Tinybones deck that I haven't dismantled, but I haven't played either of them in ages because they tend to be quite controlling/oppressive in a multiplayer setting. They often make me the obvious target, or lead to games where everyone is slowly limping towards the finish line.

I don't particularly enjoy combo wins either. I can play them, but they usually feel less satisfying to me.

This got me thinking: perhaps Duel Commander is exactly where these kinds of strategies make more sense.

The 1v1 nature of the format seems like it could make more controlling or "mean" strategies much more enjoyable. If you're locking down your opponent or making their life miserable, at least you're doing it in a format where that's the game you're both signing up for. And, of course, I'm perfectly happy to have that experience turned back on me!

So, for those of you with more Duel Commander experience:

  • Does the format generally support this kind of controlling/oppressive playstyle?
  • What does the metagame look like for these decks when they're properly optimized?
  • Are Grand Arbiter or Tinybones viable/interesting choices in the current environment?
  • And perhaps most importantly: is there such a thing as "casual" Duel Commander, or is the format inherently pretty competitive?

I'm mainly looking for a format where I can enjoy the more controlling side of Magic without feeling like I'm ruining a multiplayer table for everyone else.

Thanks!

Embercleave in Yoshi/Jeska?

Was thinking of running it as another finisher for the deck since it is fetchable off Cloud and Jeska hypothetically can triple the damage of whatever I stick it on. Thoughts?

Is mtgtop8 down?

I’ve been trying to look at meta stats to help me pick my new deck after the bans, but it seems to down all day. Is it the same for you? Do you have an alternative website I could use?

Odds of Edric being unbanned?

Hey all, I'm pretty new to DC. I play Edric, Spymaster of Trest in EDH and see my boy is banned here and has been for some time. Just wanted to test the waters and see how likely people think it would be for him to ever be unbanned. Thanks!
