We're getting a Barnes & Noble on 11/A in November!

We're getting a Barnes & Noble on 11/A in November!

Haven't seen this posted anywhere! Love independent bookstores, of course, but grew up at B&N weekly from childhood through law school, was there five days/week studying for the bar, and weekly since becoming a working adult. Live basically right on top of it and so unbelievably excited, y'all!

Downside is I may start spending less time at Book Club Bar. Definitely hoping it doesn't negatively impact them.

how bad is avenue d really?

i've seen the abcd saying but i want to know how safe i truly am if i live there. i toured the possible place during the day and felt fine, but my job has me up and leaving very early in the morning. i can handle people acting up a little bit, but would i otherwise be fine? for context, i'm a young guy who isn't very muscular but i also don't seem super weak.

Pop up space?

Hey neighbors, we’re two longtime friends and residents of the LES who started a Chinese-Jewish pop-up dinner party that blends flavors rooted in the culinary history of the LES. We design each event with great food, relatable storytelling and a touch of humor to spark nostalgia, curiosity and connection around the table. Check us out on instagram @woobergs for more info.

We’re looking for affordable space in the neighborhood to schedule some dinners this summer. A working kitchen and a table that can seat 13-15 would be ideal. We’re very flexible in just about every way and can bring plates/cups etc if needed. We know space is out there, we’re just not sure how to find it. And yes, we’ve been on Peerspace, Giggster, Airbnb, etc. We purposefully keep the dinners under 15 people, so paying $500-$1000 for one night isn’t sustainable. Appreciate any leads! Feel free to DM us here or on Instagram. Thanks!

East village jobs

I live in the East Village, it’s my favorite place in the city, and I am looking for work that is close to home after years of commuting. Something flexible, sociable, not corporate. A bookstore, a restaurant, a small store, you get the idea. What’s the best way to go about this, in your experience? Did you apply online or ask in person? I’ve checked the usual online job postings but it’s pretty bleak.

Happy to share more about my experience and skills if you have an opening!

Anybody recognize this lobby?

Had a FedEx package get delivered here instead of to my address. I can file a claim but contents are time sensitive so hoping to track it down. Going off possibility they screwed up blocks it could be in the 500s of any street? Based on # of mailboxes and the tile wall, it’s a bigger and newer or renovated building.

What's going on near Astor Place tonight?? (5/15)

Some kind of obnoxious gathering with a crowd yelling, drumming and a guy yelling on a loud speaker. Anyone know what it is?

Edit: it’s something called The Dance Parade

Gas Station on Bowery long gone

Does anyone remember a small gas station I think it was on Bowery in the middle of the block can't remember the cross streets that was run by an Indian man who used to sell samosas and other foods that his wife would cook.

I made a free site to find soccer bars in Brooklyn showing World Cup games

Hey Brooklyn! Me and my friends are huge soccer fans and kept running into the same problem: not knowing which bars near us were actually showing the game we wanted, or just had it on in the background.

So we built a web app to solve it. It lists soccer bars across NYC filtered by neighborhood, updated weekly with which games they're showing and which teams each place supports, so you don't get stuck in a rival bar. Brooklyn coverage is solid.

https://www.awaydayz.co/

The World Cup starts June 11 so this felt like the right time to share! It's completely free, so let me know if your local is missing and I'll add it!

Thanks!

Bar for first date on Friday evening?

Know you’re not supposed to schedule dates on fri/sat but i did it anyways🤕. I usually go to bua/lovers of today/mister paradise but feel they might get crowded on the weekend. Where can I walk in for a 730pm date and still catch a good vibe? Not too expensive preferably. Cheers.

Condom sculpture in Tompkins

It’s in the southeast corner near the benches. Immobile, maybe brass or bronze with mild patina. Anyone have any info on it?

Insomniac birds

Does anyone else hear these birds? 😂 Why are they all chirping at 2am? They’ve been doing this the past couple of nights. I live on St Marks.

Bar for groups 5/16

Hi! I’m having a group of friends over to my apartment for my birthday, and I’m hoping we can migrate to a bar afterward. There will probably be 10-15 of us. Looking for a bar that we can reliably go to without having to worry about a line or it being full. I know this is a big ask on what’s supposed to be such a nice day. I have Mister Paradise, Mono + Mono, Bar Bianchi, and The Scratcher in mind so far. Just somewhere chill with a good vibe. Outdoor space would be preferable but know that might not be possible. Thank you!
