Trying to find a job at the Port — what am I doing wrong?

Hi everyone,

I recently moved to Everett and I've been trying to explore jobs at the Port.

I really love the maritime industry and getting a job there would honestly be a dream come true.

Right now, I have a career in software engineering, but I'm not very happy doing it. I'm completely open to making a career change just to do something I actually love.

I've been checking their website and LinkedIn, but I haven't gotten any responses and rarely see active listings. It feels like there are no jobs available, which is confusing because I read a stat saying they have 40,000 jobs. (Though I'm starting to wonder if that means jobs supported by the port in the region, rather than direct hires?)

What am I doing wrong? Does anyone here work for the Port or know the best way to get a foot in the door? Any advice would be super appreciated. Thanks!

Kaiser Insurance L&D: Providence Everett vs. Overlake Bellevue?

Hi everyone,

I’m due in August with Kaiser insurance and trying to decide between Providence Everett and Overlake Bellevue for Labor and Delivery. I’m currently low-risk and aiming for a natural birth.

I'd love to hear local experiences, pros/cons, or insights on the care, facility quality, and how supportive they are of natural birth preferences. Thanks in advance!

Missing canary? Or other v loud lil yellow bird?

There's a canary or other domestic bird near Pecks and 60th st. SE. I tried calling and coaxing, but no luck. I don't have Facebook or nextdoor, otherwise I'd post there.

I built a free map of every restaurant inspection in Snohomish County

I wanted to make it easier to look up a restaurant's health-inspection history when eating out, so I made this: https://food.snoking.app

It shows every food establishment in Snohomish and King counties, color-coded by their latest inspection from the county health department. Tap any spot to see its full inspection history.

I found it particularly interesting to explore different ways of visualizing the data. You can shade by last rating, average of the last 5, or how much better or worse its rating is compared to peers that serve the same cuisine.

Hopefully you find this as useful as I do - no ads, no account sign-ups, not affiliated with a restaurant. Happy to hear if something is broken or missing!

Waterfront Party Anyone?

Anyone here going to Fourth of July Waterfront Party at Hotel Indigo?

I’m headed there by myself and it would be nice to find people to hang out with.

I created a school data dashboard to compare schools side by side

https://priyde.github.io/WASchoolLens
I built this because GreatSchools gives ratings but no real comparison. I wanted to see how my neighborhood school stacks up against others in the same district across scores, growth, attendance, discipline, demographics and more.

What do you need from local news?

Hi there, I'm Alex Rochester, KUOW's Digital Community Engagement Producer. My job is to talk with the KUOW audience and Puget Sound region residents about their local news needs.

Our midday broadcast show and podcast Soundside is a newsmagazine radio show that keeps you up to date on local issues and then dives deep to build understanding. The team are currently asking listeners and non-listeners for their hopes, dreams and constructive critiques of the show. Anyone who cares about local news is welcome to participate!

Please fill in this survey or share your answers to the following questions in the comments.

If you're a listener, what do you want more or less of in the show?

If you're not a listener, what would it have to feature to feel worth your time?

Do you want more stories that focus on politics, community-solutions, outside of Seattle, arts & culture, and/or panel discussions with multiple perspectives? Do you want less of something?

The team asked for listeners to weigh in because they take feedback very seriously, so the more detailed your thoughts the more it will help them understand how best to serve the public with the news they need.

Traffic last Saturday in airport way

Hey everyone! Last Saturday, we were driving near the airport way, and there was a huge traffic jam around Airport video area. My husband and I were curious what was going on because it seemed much busier than usual.

Was there a special event,, or something happening ? Just wondering if you'd know.

Anyone else hearing the loud bangs?

All day (July 2) I’ve been hearing these loud bangs, once every couple hours. Not sure what they are. I don’t think they’re coming from inside the apartment complex I’m staying in. I’m in north Everett

Looking for a gardener/landscaper large garden

I recently bought a house in Everett with a wonderful butterfly garden for a yard. While I have a green thumb this is above my skill level and I was hoping to hire a gardener to help me maintain it. I wasn't sure if anyone had a recommendation for a gardener or landscaping company that will help clean out the vines and weeds and help maintain the garden. Make an action plan etc.

Minor 3.8 earthquake tonight

Was confused for a second about what was going on as there was a weird sudden jolt, but wasn't my imagination I guess as USGS confirmed minor 3.8 earthquake centered around Oak Harbour.

River Floating

Some friends and I would love to find a good spot to put in and float a river around here with inner tubes and adult beverages. Does anyone have a recommendation on a good spot for this?

Hairstylist rec

Hi all! Looking for recommendations for a hairstylist in or near south Everett. Preferably someone who specializes in blonde hair, has Friday morning availability and isn’t republican (will not be expanding, just don’t want to personally give my money and time to someone who doesn’t share my same values). Thanks in advance!

Bandera Mountain and Little Bandera Mountain (again), WA - Rainier for Robert

Rainier for Robert.

If you know you know. Reddit has been getting upset with me lately and has been flagging my posts as spam so I'm refraining from posting my usual spiel. Hopefully this condensed version doesn't nuke my account.

If you're interested in my mission you can check out my previous posts on my account or follow the Rainier for Robert subreddit I made at Rainier for Robert.

Number 20. Bandera Mountain has been bagged. Little Bandera Mountain doesn't count, I already did it.

Rainier for Robert.
