One Travel Day???

so im new to fabula ultima as a GM and have been looking though everything for a future game and i was looking at the world map sheet from the website and i saw on the top right a thing that says "one travel day" with three fillable boxes underneath. of course i looked through the core book and it doesnt explain it to me to where i understand it so im asking what does this mean. my first thought was its a key and if i fill in each square it would mean 3 squares equal 1 days travel, then i though what if its by how you travel like if on foot its 1 square per day and mounts would be 2 squares per day. if someone can give me a concrete answer on what this means i would greatly appretiate it

Please help me with level up plan. Thank you!

Hey everyone!

I'm part of a group that’s fairly early in our first campaign, and I’d like some advice for leveling my character. I know there’s a lot on TWF for builds on Reddit, but I want to keep the character as on theme as possible and I get pretty overwhelmed when trying to cross reference several conversations. For reference, she’s a former professional fighter who’s maybe a little too sarcastic for her own good; a skilled physical brawler who isn’t supernaturally gifted in any way, so a two-weapon fighter who uses gloves for weapons. The goal is to hit as hard as possible and maybe even be a little self-sufficient with the healing. All atlases are fair game. The party is currently L9. The current build looks like this:

DEX: D8

INS: D6

MIG: D10

WLP: D8

Fury - L7

Adrenaline - L5

Frenzy

Indomitable Spirit - L1

Weapon Master - L2

Bone Crusher - L1

Counter Attack

I’m not sure if I should take a level or 2 of Provoke, or just pour the rest of my Fury levels into Indomitable Spirit. I think I’ll be going for Rogue (Cheap Shot, Dodge, High Speed) and Dancer (Hydra Dance and Wardancer), and definitely taking both Powerful Strike and Rising for heroic skills. Is there a better route? If I’m building this all the way to L50, what are the best classes and heroic skills to take?

As I said, this is the group's first campaign in Fabula Ultima, so maybe I'm overstressing a bit. I just like to have a level up plan when I play games.

Thank you all for your help!

Do I Have To Buy The Book?

Huge final fantasy and kingdom hearts fan and wanting to get into a new ttrpg. I only recently started to look into this so maybe I just don't understand, but do I have to buy the book for even a digital copy or is there somewhere I can download it for free?

[FabUlt][Free][Fri 5pm PDT(GMT-7)] Seeking GM for a Fire Emblem 3H inspired Fabula Ultima game!

EDIT: All of the players at the table have all GM'd before, & are currently GMing other games at this time. We would like to be players this time, & are looking for 1 Player, & 1 GM. Please do not fill out the form/comment if you aren't interested in playing.

EDIT 2: Details have been clarified so that it is of the understanding that all details (aside from timeslot & misc. requirements) are merely ideal aspects of the game we'd like to play, thus are negotiable/not final.

EDIT 3: Folks, I understand if this game ad doesn't do it for you, but there are in fact potential players & potential GMs who are interested in a table that has passion for specific ideas whilst still being flexible. If you don't want to play, that's fine, but please don't comment or use the google forms to complain, ask that we swap to paid, suggest we play GM-less, etc. That's not what this post is for. Please be respectful & kind. Ban evasion is not appreciated, either.

Game: Fabula Ultima
Group Size: 3/4 Players, 0/1 Game Master
Timeslot: (non-negotiable) Weekly Fridays from 5pm PDT to 9pm PDT
Platform: Discord for VC, (ideally, not required) Roll20 for VTT
Touchstones: (ideally, not required) Fire Emblem (Fates, Awakening and Three Houses), Triangle Strategy, Final Fantasy VIII
Content: Core + (ideally, not required) Atlases
Optional Rules: (ideally, not required) Camp Activities, Invoke to Fail, Materials & Forging, Quirks, Variant Initiative, Zero Powers. (Maybe Combat Rows?)
House Rules: (ideally, not required) Old Playtest Focused/Fortress, Tails's Hero and Magical Girl classes
Misc. Requirements: (non-negotiable) 18+, LGBTQ+ friendly, no AI

Pitch: (ideally, not required) A coming of age story set to the backdrop of political tensions brimming on civil war, the party as young adult students of the neutral-ground war college with aspirations of learning the arts of war, politics and stewardship. Worldbuilding a large continent, rather than a globe.

Key focuses are:

  • (ideally, not required) Well defined friends and foes with understandable motivations, goals and aspirations
  • (ideally, not required) Political drama with an air of hope for a better future, even if the present is grim.
  • (ideally, not required) The human toll of war, and a lens looking at how the actions of the ruling class impact the common people. Visible consequences for the party's actions (good or bad).
  • (ideally, not required) Challenging tactical Conflict Scenes with 'puzzle-like' elements

Soulforged (Class)

I saw a similar concept posted a few days ago, and it inspired me to share one I made a few weeks back for a campaign. My English isn’t great, so I used AI to help with the translation.

I tested it and it worked pretty well with the multiclass. I also saw some really interesting feedback on the other post, so I’d love to hear your thoughts on mine too.

Cheers!

Condemn doesn't stack with itself, does it?

In the v1.1 update, the Orator skill Condemn gained an effect that increases damage against the target.

The Heroic Skill Repetition allows you to use Condemn twice on the same, or different targets.

If an Orator uses Condemn twice on the same target, would the damage boost from both apply, or would you only double up on the status effects and MP drain? On page 116 of the Core Rulebook, it says multiple spell effects don't stack, but Condemn isn't a spell.

New to Fabula Ultima, my adventure through Press Start solo play. I became a big fan!

I am a huge JRPG fan but new to the TTRPG hobby about 3 months ago after watching Me, Myself, and Die. I have been doing solo one-shots of DnD 5.5e but came across Fabula Ultima’s kickstarter. I love Amano’s work and am subject to FOMO so I am deeply considering the collector’s edition but felt like it would be more responsible of me to see if I enjoy the game first haha.

I ended last night making a couple of tokens, pages, and downloading the Press Start campaign. I started today with 2 cups of coffee and solo 4-handed but lost against Desdemona and Tristan. Decided I would play through it again after the kids went to bed, but this time I ran 5-handed with the addition of Mako.

I also enjoy masochist challenge JRPG runs such as full draconian DQXI so I decided that upon encountering Desdemona and Tristan, Cassandra would turn on us and join the fight to stop us. I continued to run the suggested rules with Mako’s addition, bumping Desdemona up her hp and having her take 3 turns per round; however I did allow myself to unlock the advanced skills like protect, potion rain, and Blair’s multi-heal spell.

Well this was surely a nail biter. I turned on the Fabula Ultima OST battle music on loop on YouTube and began crunching.

____________________________

Our party keeps up with Desdemona’s onslaught of magic attacks with the use of potion rain and Blair’s multi-heal whilst managing those Iron Gauntlet counters. We stack damage onto Lavigne as she does big damage to Desdemona (Octopath style) for multiple rounds until she escapes into her brother’s armor and became untargetable.

Cassandra and Tristan take advantage of their single target abilities and get a lucky KO against our healer Blair. With Edgar out of sufficient inventory points for potion rain, it was time to change strategies and press offense.

Mako and Edgar bursts down Tristan and Cassandra as Lavigne prioritizes using potions on Mako and providing a protect per turn. Cassandra is down to 5 HP and she feels that this will be her last turn before she is stuck down. And so she rolls high to take down Mako. Our party stand 2 versus 3 now.

Edgar rains down a barrage of bullets and uses enough Fabula Points to reroll and ensure his shots get past Tristan’s armor while knocking out the recent turncoat Cassandra. Desdemona and Tristan focus attacks on Lavigne who retaliates and destroys the armor shell of Tristan.

Desdemona stands in front of us, “I will not fall today, I will not fail my brother!” She casts one last spell in attempt to drop Lavigne below threshold to disable her dark damage skill. Lavigne faces the spell head-on, sacrificing her own health and swings her greatsword down onto Desdemona who is overwhelmed by the blow.

Desdemona, Tristan, and Cassandra are defeated and each use their last Ultima point to escape.

_________

Kickstarter ends on Aug 31! I’m hoping to run some journeys with Mythic GME and see how it all goes before then! Thanks for joining me and my ramblings!

How much will the updated books change the game?

I picked up all the soft cover books over the last year and only recently realized that there was a kick starter for the hardcover/updated books. Are the changes so drastic that all the supplements won't work well with the new rules?

Skyjump Heroic Skill + Guardian’s Protect Skill

If a character had the Skyjump Heroic Skill and the Protect Skill, could they do this, and if so, what happens?:

The character uses the Skyjump Skill as an action to pay 10 MP and become airborne until the start of their next turn. While airborne in this way, they have these effects:
- Their melee attacks can target unreachable/flying targets
- They are unseen by other creatures.

While unseen in this way, would they be able to use the Protect Skill? If so, and they do so before their next turn to replace the initial target of an attack with themselves, would they still be considered unseen by the attacker? If so, what would happen? Would the attack auto miss lol? How does being unseen actually affect this interaction?

Thanks in advance for the answers~!

Tailwind, a major villain in my urban(ish) fantasy campaign

(Don't Look if you're a player of mine!)

>!They're a hero from another timeline who failed to stop the end of the world, cursed to now fight their former friends in a never ending time loop!<

Their fighting style is reminiscent of a final fantasy dragoon, teleporting into the air, charging their naginata with lighting, and crashing down on a telegraphed target. They can also create clones shaped from black storm clouds. The number of tails they have determines how many clones can be manifested at a time.

(Yes. they are Kain-posing here)

How would one go about recreating iconic jobs from Final Fantasy?

I'm cooking up a FabUlt game that uses the FF mythos (basically treating it as if I'm making my own installation in the FF franchise) and I was wondering if anyone knew any class combinations that would recreate specific jobs

Solo play and 1-to-1 play?

I am very curious to know if Fabula Ultima One to One and Fabula Ultima Solo are already out
If I donate 1 euro, can I get them already? I'm trying to search for any info about it, and I can't find anything.

Is this companion "too much" in your opinion?

So, I have my build planned out to level 35 already. This campaign is very early still too. I also play our group tank. My character uses The Beast Who Spoke quirk. I have a custom weapon and cannot equip certain things like armor, shields, and weapons. So a certain Shield which gives counterattacks on odds is probably out of my reach.

For this character, I created a lot of back story and an entire civilization, etc. My idea for my companion starts when my character hits 31 after resolving part of his backstory conflict. During this he'd have to return to his hometown and I thought about him taking on an "apprentice" as a companion.

This apprentice would be in training to be a tank like him and be basically another "Beast Who Spoke". That's the RP aspects.

So my question is if these skills would be "too much".

Skill 1: Protection Practice: Basically the companion can perform Protect. This isn't a stretch given the Howler stat block literally has a skill exactly like this.

Skill 2: Guard Practice: When my character performs Guard, the companion attempts to "practice" the same tactic and performs Guard as well, but only gets the resistances. They cannot perform Guard on another creature to protect them from melee attacks.

Skill 3: Counter Practice: After an enemy hits or misses the Companion with a melee attack, if the accuracy check was odd, the companion can counterattack with one of their basic attacks, High Roll 0 for damage purposes. Basically the effect of a late game shield, but instead of my character being able to do the counter, the companion does it.

For some details, I am the only tank focused character in a party of 7. I am expecting that by level 30, there is going to be some struggle over how my character uses Protect and Bodyguard. I thought if I could get access to a second protect buffed by Guard with a companion, that would cover the gap a bit more. And since the counter on odds effect is only on my companion, it would be balanced by my companion performing it rather than my main character.

Favorite Class to mix with Ace of Cards

I have an upcoming game of FabUlt where I will be player rather than GM. I've got my heart set on playing an Ace of Cards as it seems so cool and fun. But, as many of the other players are coming to the game for the first time, I'm planning to remain flexible with my other class choices and build to fill in any gaps they may have left. I've had a few ideas so far, like sharpshooter+gun, pilot using a mount and the esoteric weapon, or an entropist to wizard-max.

But I'm really just looking for some more inspiration and stories about previous Ace of Cards characters you've either played or seen in your games.

[LFG-Free] Spanish speakers/English Speakers too but our english is not so great (looking for a group/DM)

Hello! I'm looking forward to playing Fabula Ultima. My boyfriend and I are looking for Dungeon Masters or a group; we kinda just wanna vibe. We're looking for one-shots/westmarches mostly, but we could be interested in a campaign later on. We are new to the game, so we only read the rules, classes, and how to make some characters (builds). I used to live in the US, but my English deteriorated over time, and my boyfriend knows how to read and speak enough, but he is looking forward to practicing more. I would say we could perhaps play a campaign, but it would be nice to get to know each other first

If you need any info/just wanna chat, let me know
Si necesitas alguna info/solo quieres hablar, déjame saber

Time zone: GMT-3
Days we can't play: Saturday and Sunday
Días que no podemos jugar: Sabado y Domingo

Uma Inspiration

Hello, I GM an Arknights game and wanted to share a fun little bit of the game with you. So, a while back I got really into Umamusume and Rice Shower was my favorite, and of course being me I spiraled and made a counter part in my game as an NPC renamed Prysznic Ryżowy (just Rice Shower ran through Google Translate to Polish) and made her a timid girl from a noble family that wants to become a hero. Fast forward a few sessions and now the group is in unanimous agreement that they are bringing her along on the adventure and training her to become a great hero and fighter. I have to say, I wasn't expecting any of them to get so attached to what is essentially a copy and pasted character from a game I was obsessed with.. but I'm also not complaining.
