WHAT ARE THE ESSENTIAL INGREDIENTS TO A FAR CRY GAME

What, to you, across all games makes a game a Far Cry game?

IS IT:

Fire fx? the bad guy? crafting? side characters? outposts? enemies wearing the color red? radios?

what are the essential ingredients to a far cry game to you all, good and/or bad? That's gameplay, writing, setting, etc.

and what are some "ingredients" in a specific game you wish had carried over to other iterations of the game?

Thanks for engaging, I've been trying to pin this down and I've yet to play every version ❤️ I love talking video games!!!!!!!!

Got started with Far Cry 5 and it's the best in the franchise now that I have played it

I played far cry 2, then 3, 4 skipped 5 and played new dawn and far cry 6 but here is why far cry 5 has come out on top for me

  • Ability to order air strikes against enemy outposts
  • Ability to counter enemy air strikes with guns mounted on top of buildings
  • A roster full of skilled fighters, others are specialists in armed choppers etc
  • The ability to track down boat and chopper convoys patrolling an area
  • Ability to call an air attack on a helicopter envoy
  • Ability to use more than one ground side kicks and ordering any to attack a single enemy
  • The graphics on a 4k screen look stunning especially the cult's logo on wooden buildings
  • The alarms take longer to disable forcing the player to be cautious and to time the run ins perfectly not to get caught
  • Great music while viewing the map esp with a 4k tv whose audio is synced with the sub woofers lol

This was a masterpiece from Ubisoft and new dawn and far cry 6 combined suck when compared to this game.

Why do I come back to FC2 all the time?!

I just wrapped up Far Cry 5. Honestly? The world is amazing, the whole cult concept is insanely good, and the scenery is just beautiful. But the gameplay? Man, it’s lacking. The gunplay feels shockingly bad. You literally just need an early-game LMG and a silenced sniper, and you can breeze through the entire game on any difficulty without a single issue.

Right after the credits rolled, I immediately jumped back into Far Cry 2 and spent 2 hours just clearing out random camps. And it made me wonder... why does this feel so much better?

FC2 was my first Far Cry, though I easily dumped the most hours into FC3 and FC4. Personally, I think Far Cry 3 nailed the perfect balance between the world, gameplay, and quests. But the newer the games get, the more unnecessary mechanics they shove in. FC5 just feels incredibly bloated. Crafting is cool and all, but what’s the point when the weapons are already OP, you're a walking tank, and the game is a cakewalk even on the hardest difficulty? It just holds your hand way too much.

FC2 was bare minimum, yet it felt like so much more. The immersion is unmatched:

  • The Minimal HUD: No massive intrusive UI.
  • No Power Fantasy, You're Just a Cog: In FC5, you're a superhero with infinite stamina, wingsuits, and a grapple hook. In FC2, you're just a sick mercenary who gets tired after sprinting for 10 seconds, has to deal with malaria attacks, and is actively hunted by a world that doesn't care about you.
  • The Map: You actually hold a physical map in-game instead of pausing to look at a magical world map. Truly one of the best features for immersion ever created.
  • The Gunplay: Weapons have brutal, realistic recoil. You don't get fully automatic silenced snipers—your only option is the dart rifle, which gives you exactly one shot before reloading.
  • Weapon Degradation & Jamming: Buying a gun actually matters. If you pick up a rusty AK from a dead enemy, it will jam in the middle of a gunfight, you have a problem.
  • The Stealth: No silly arrows showing you exactly who is looking at you. It’s way harder, simpler, and makes the atmosphere so much tenser.

Don't get me wrong: The quests in FC2 were absolutely terrible, and the overall story wasn't great. Pretty much every sequel improved on that front. I'm not saying FC2 is overall a "better" game than the rest, but the world-building and vibe were completely unrivaled. Everything felt balanced.

Do we actually need a million different weapon and player skins, infinite stamina, and insanely overpowered helicopters? To me, it feels like less is definitely more.

I'm no gamedeveloper so my words don't mean anything. Maybe I'm just too oldschool for the "newer" Far Crys (:

Having problems getting into older Far Cry’s

My first Far Cry I ever played was 5 an I thought it was incredible and then I played blood dragon and thought it was even better so I went back to 3 because if I liked blood dragon surely I would like 3 but all of the sudden I just found it boring and repetitive. Having to clear the fog sucks, the graphics are dated and besides Vas and Jason I found the other characters boring, so I tired 4 and thought the characters were amazing but the story and gameplay were boring as well. I tired six and thought it was awesome ( I did think the villains were lame besides Anton and the built in multiplayer/ npc spawning was horrible but I had a lot more fun in it then I did 3 or 4) idk am I too young to get the nostalgia effect or am I doing something wrong because I really want to enjoy the game I love Vas and far cry.

HEAR ME OOOOOOOUUUUT

Ok so like imagine a far cry game were its set in like 1940 and you are stuck in a nazi occupied African island full of nazis. And like your a fisher who crash landed there with no way out. With a villain like the guy from inglorious bastards. With cool unique guns set from that era. It could be pretty good and unique. you could use like panzer tanks aswell. What do yall think reddit

My obsession with FarCry became an obsession with Nick Rye and the actor behind it all

True story. I used to play 5 just to have Nick to hang out with and now I've gone through about half of his actors stuff outside of gaming and have a slightly abnormal obsession that I am perfectly ok with. Thank you Steve

What happened after 4?

Hi there, huge fc fan and much respect to yall. recently i started playing the series again(started from 3 because i already played 1&2 at february), i'm on 5 now and i realized that i am not having so much fun compare to 3 or 4. I mean game is so good, closer to our world society and almost has everything but i feel soulless while playing. already finished all games at least 4 times, but i don't want to finish this game anymore. Heck, i loved Vietnam part but hated Mars one.

Anyone else feel the same? I really cant explain it well now, but maybe someone among you guys had felt the way i am feeling. Thank you

Does anyone else want to hit Hurk Durbman Jr?

I’ve been playing FC5 on pc for the first time as my original run was on Xbox one. I am no where near hitting the whitetail mountain and already dreading it. I run each gun for hire quest because it’s a good amount of points. I remember Hurk Jr is a gun for hire, I remember how much that I hate man in his mid 40’s. I love Sharky, love his mission love him as a gun for hire, I like Adelaide, I’ve run her with Nick when I need good air support. I just fucking hate everything about Hurk Jr.

Only you

After playing all of jacobs missions, you just cant hear only you by the platters without him coming to mind as if thise missions have changed you and it'll be a very long time before you return to normal, but besides that when you think about jacobs speech about empires rising and falling and how america is next might not be wrong. Like as a european it seems like the country of usa is falling apart and might fall as jacob says, am i insane or do any of you think the same?

I cannot escape The Cleansing mission, Far Cry 5.

SOLVED: Thanks for the help everyone. I had perk points that needed spending so put them into a couple stealth perks. That and being more awake this morning than last night got me past the Peggies. Just stood back a ways from the bridge and helped Merle shoot people coming up the sides , then occasionally shot em on the bridge. It all worked out. Take care.

Regarding Far Cry 5, the mission "The Cleansing",

Hi, I'm a noob and cannot get through the battle while waiting for the helicopter to save me. The chopper has arrived but I'm getting overrun by nasties and die.

I'd really like to exit this mission, but attempts to leave just restart me there again. There doesn't seem to be an option to leave or cancel story missions. I reload the game, boom, back to the same spot. Map fast travel is locked out.

Does anyone have a work around besides spending a ton of time on it till I get thru, or starting a new character?

Thank you for the help.

Stepping away

I'm going to have to step away from FC5 for a bit before I rage quit and break something! I can't seem to get past the rescue Merle mission. What pisses me off is I can't go do something else for a while. I'm locked into that mission.
