Front page ad for S.H. Barrett & Company's traveling railroad show in the October 12, 1881 issue of Arkansas Sentinel

Years ago, my dad found some issues of the Arkansas Sentinel while helping renovate a historical home in Fort Smith. As far as I've seen, they're all Arkansas Sentinel from the year 1881.

I've been reluctant to handle them until I learn to do so properly. So I haven't even been through them. They've been under a bed, stacked flat in a black trash bag, away from light.

This particular cover was found with the rest of the newspapers, but it was adhered to a poster board. Intended, I presume, to provide stability and/or for display. I assume it was displayed somewhere because it seems more faded than the other papers.

I plan on doing decent research into how I should handle them before I do. The paper is very fragile.

Any tips? More info/interesting things I should know about this particular publication?

Studio 225...anyone remember the exact location?

Hello and thank you in advance!

Does anyone remember the exact location of Studio 225? I've been telling my wife about it off & on for years and would like to show her where it was. Also, if anyone has photos from back in the day I would love to see them.

Lost Cat, Light Orange, Huntsville and Willow

hello, my cat jericho is missing. he got out around 11pm on 6/30. He has not been an outside cat in a long time, and may be injured, and is certainly scared. please keep an eye out. I would love to know if he is spotted, just knowing he is not hurt or seen somewhere would relieve a lot of stress. he might have wondered up to Dickson, we used to live over there, as well as Garland and Mount Comfort. Thank you.

College Ave construction

I feel like they’ve been working on College Ave for at least a year now. Does anyone know how much longer this project is supposed to last? It feels like it’s taking forever.

Students will be back soon, and I’m already dreading the traffic once all the freshmen are driving through the construction.

Also, can anyone explain in simple terms what they’re actually doing? Is it mainly replacing water or sewer lines, or is it something else?

Reminder: fireworks are permitted July 1-4 in the city limits.

Last year was my first year in the city and it caught us a bit off guard. We have two small dogs that are just terrified of the noise.

This year we are better prepared with the pups meds, but just wanted to remind anyone else that maybe new.

Happy Independence Day!

The Dog Park is FINALLY open!

Hey, head's up, y'all: the IAMS dog park at Bryce Davis Park is finally open!

Just the large dog side so far, but they've re-designated the temporary park for small dog use.

My border collie mix is very pleased!

Looking to move next month (please read)

Hey, reddit. I’ve lived in Fayetteville for 3 years and am moving next month.

Are there any decent places for rent near Wedington that aren’t full of bugs and roaches? I’m freakin losing it here.

UPDATE Fayetteville Cops

I just ran into "James". It seems he showed up after my interaction with the cops, the one brown dog got away and made it back to where he was staying, and "James" got arrested for interfering. The black dog went to the pound for 4 days, and now both of them are out and doing good.

Has anyone else received a strange postcard like this?

My adult daughter received a scary, strange postcard in the mail, and it feels threatening! Since it was mailed from Little Rock, I thought it might be a regional thing.

It shows to be from Beelzebul, with my daughter’s first and middle name and home address. It’s handwritten and has these phrases: “C-ya soon coon!,” “Wonderful time,” “Matthew 12:24”, and has a small puffy star sticker.

The front of the card has a small Year of the Rabbit sticker that looks strange as well. What in the world could this be?

My daughter has nothing to do with the occult, in case you’re wondering.

Live in Fayetteville, going to buy a home. Does anyone know of any h.o.a's that allow medical marijuana smoking?

My husband had major surgery and uses this to help with the aftermath of that.

Probably would use a dedicated room with an open window when smoking.

Appreciate any information you have. Thanks.

FYI for all you gardeners, ONF has plant starts marked down to $1

While some looked done for others looks savable (some of the tomatoes) and some (mint, lemon verbana and ahi dulce peppers) looked perfect!

Which scenario(s) do we want the future of downtown to look like?

The city’s Long Range planning team has been taking tons of feedback over the last year or so helping to remake the city’s Downtown Master Plan, which hasn’t been updated in 2 decades. Earlier this week they had these boards up at various community engagement sessions around downtown with 3 potential scenarios that downtown could look like in the future - the city wants to help it evolve into a combination of all 3.

For each scenario, attendees of each session this week had to put stickers on the scales at the bottom of each poster. Here is a post from the city’s Long Range Planning manager showing attendees’ answers at the Co-Op.

What do you like or dislike about each scenario and its features? What do we want to see downtown become and eventually have that it doesn’t now?

Has Botanical been getting crowded for USMNT games?

I wanna watch the round of 32 game there just wondering how crowded I should expect it to be, and how early, if at all, I need to get there.

Hey, who out here is getting ticketed and booted by Q's Parking Enforcement?

Just curious. I happen to share a rather prominent letter of the alphabet with them.
