Valdosta State to FCS soon?

With everything going on in the Gulf South Conference, do you think Valdosta State will make the jump over the next few years to FCS?

They have one of the most recognized football programs in DII.

FCS Hot Takes Thread

Let's hear your hot take FCS opinions. The ones you know in your heart of hearts are right, but for some reason aren't embraced by the FCS community (or particular fanbases) en masse!

Could be controversial (the Ivy League very well might be the best FCS conference on the East Coast), unpopular but you know is true (Sam Houston was at least as good a team as JMU from 2011 through the "2020" season), or even somewhat popular but still liable to rankle some folks (the Walter Payton award should go to the "best" offensive player, not just the offensive player with the best stat line because they played a weak schedule).

Sorted by controversial for maximum spiciness

Rules

  • Keep it somewhat relevant to the FCS

  • Takes are welcome whether they're looking back historically or in reference to current games/rankings/polls/etc.

  • Try to keep it civil (basic /r/CFB and /r/FCS rules still apply)

Xavier planning to bring back football program in FCS Pioneer League, with on-campus stadium possible in future

As much as I hate Xavier, I think this would be a fun move, and even though they'd be too cowardly to let UC destroy them, it would be very fun to watch the Xavier Dayton rivalry in football.

This would also mean that Cincinnati would have a NCAA football team in every division, FBS: Cincy, FCS: Xavier, D2: Thomas Moore, D3: Mt St Joseph, and that would be good for the sport in the area I think.

In Your Time Watching College Football, Which position or unit has costed your team the most games

For Kansas, it’s our defense. If our defense was better, we would go at least 8-4, if not better and beat Kansas State at least once.

For Ohio State, it’s special teams, especially our kicker. If we had a good kicker, we beat Georgia in the semifinals and most likely beat TCU in the Championship to get CJ Stroud a championship.

In 2024-25, we would have beaten Michigan. Who knows what happens in the Big 10 Championship against Oregon and after that?

This past year, I personally think we would have beaten Indiana if we had made that kick to tie the game. I think we beat them in OT and win the Big 10. We would have beaten an Alabama team in the Rose Bowl who could not run the ball to save their lives. Who knows what happens against Oregon but at least we would have had the chance.

Tarleton is planning another major upgrade to Memorial Stadium

Nothing has been officially announced yet. This is based off a conversation my cousin had with the Tarleton coaches.

I mentioned a while back that my cousin is being recruited hard by Tarleton. He had his first visit to Stephenville this week to take part in one of their Camps.

During that visit one of the coaches told him that, in the next year or so, the plan will be to knock down the old home stands. Didn't ask what EXACTLY they will be replaced with, but imagine it will try and match the current home side.

REALLY happy to hear that. I've said before that the only thing holding Memorial back from being a top tier stadium is that it's too asymmetrical and the opposite side lets out too much noise.
