Final Cut Pro Won’t Export My Video

I can’t get my export to work! I hit export and it does something and nothing happens. I don’t know what’s going on and I’m about to cry. I just want this to work.

I’m having such a hard time color grading. What am I doing wrong.

I am shooting on Sony A7iv 4K 24fps slog3

I make sure I am over expose by 1.3-1.7 on the meter

Using Final Cut Pro

I add a custom lut effect to convert to rec.709

I Adjust my exposure for each clip by using the color wheels and the LUMA scale

I make sure that my adjustments come before the conversion.

I drag on a second custom lut effect onto the clips and add a creative look that I download from online

Everything looks like shit.

Not cinematic at all.

I see all these color graded videos on tik tok and Instagram and they look AMAZING!

I don’t understand what I’m doing wrong.

Are these YouTube tutorials gate keeping ?

Am I buying cheap ass luts ?

Am I a moron ?

Should I just shoot in rec.709 out the camera and give up?

HELPPPP!!!

Is it really True we cannot add background to text in FCP 😱

Okay so i recently started using (rather trying to upgrade myself from Capcut) and I was surprised that i couldn't find the option to add a background to text. I searched on YT and didn't find anything.

Yes we can add an element or box seperately but is it really true we cannot add background directly (which is like a basic feature in all free tools)

I was also unable to use Transform on text. I mean i wanted to decrease the width of the box so the sentence comes in in four lines from original two lines. Gues that also didn't happen and had to manually hit return key to break the sentence.

Looking for guidance from the community. I really want to shift to FCP as my primary tool. From Capcut. I chose FCP because Premiere feels really intimidating and overwhelming.

Monitor on iPhone while editing on desktop

*Admin please check to see if this post is ok! - it's a bit 'I'm selling something-y' so not sure, thanks!*

Hi guys, I was editing a tonne of short form, vertical content for clients and wanted a way to see and hear it on my phone as I was editing on my desktop so I could colour grade and mix audio levels for mobile accurately. I couldn't find anything that offered that kind of service so I built a plugin that streams the viewer panel and audio to an iPhone in realtime. You can check it out below if you think it'll speed up your short form editing workflow. I couldn't make it free as it has to use a server for file hosting and will require updates as new FCP software is released etc., so admin please remove if this isn't allowed. Just thought someone might get some use out of it!

This annoying range selection in dragging media file in the timeline any ways to turn it off?

Hello guys, as you can see dragging a clip from media files to timeline it turns the border yellow (i thinks its a range select tool). Sometimes you'll click the clip but the whole clip is not selected only part of it so to manage you'll need to fix it and that's by far kinda annoying. Is their a way that this function can be turn off?

Need to fix underwear showing in video

I am editing a video right now and in the take we have decided to use, the actress kicks her leg up and the skirt lifts a little too high to reveal her underwear. It’s a fast reveal but we need to figure out how to blur it out or, since the skirt is a solid white, maybe even white out the area so it just kinda looks like some bloomers or something. Anyone know how to do either of these or have any experience/tips on what to do?

Final Cut Grill podcast: "Hey Apple, fix these things" (yes, description inside)

Well, Final Cut Grill is back. Had a blast on the Final Cut Grill with Chris Fenwick. Nearly two hours (but YouTube link has a GREAT set of chapter markers for the contents).

My big "misses" right now for FCP: a whole bunch of lack of color development (some sort of color management, FFS!), a lack of pro audio mixing, and why is there no real Motion development?

We ended up on Keynote as a motion graphics tool for editors. Which sounds absurd until you think about it for 30 seconds.

And we talked about Reddit (since I mod r/editors amongst other places). We talked about how Reddit works and the developer spam problem, and Chris floated the idea of a recurring Reddit segment on the show, which I'm into.

Fenwick asks good questions and actually lets you answer them.

And…about an hour after the show finished… I realized I forgot multi-user workflows (which is about all I see professionally nowadays). But he asked for 3. That would have been my fourth.

Look, I promise, I'm not going to promote these episodes on Reddit as a general rule. Merely if you're an FCP user or Redditor, yeah, you might want to skim for sections you love…or actually give the whole thing a listen (at 2x speed!)

I wrote this summary because I'm very involved in Reddit and didn't want you to even bother to click the link if it held nothing of interest for you

Should I transcode movie files that are in a XF-AVC codec?

I am working on a project. One shooter uses a Canon camera, and when I import the footage, the codec is XFGA. It works fine in Final Cut....and I'll be doing project editing in Final Cut....but I can't open any of these files with something like VLC. When I try to open in VLC, I get told "VLC could not decode the format "xfga."

Should I just edit as is, using the files FCP X created when importing? I dont see why not....but I've also never worked with this codec before or not been able to open something in VLC, so perhaps down the line this might be a problem.

Any advice?

Looking to connect with FCP editors in the UK

Hey all - I'm a filmmaker and editor based in the UK. It's an ongoing point of humour amongst many of my colleagues that I've made Final Cut Pro the professional hill I'm willing to die on. I love it and have managed to build a decent career without ever having to migrate to another piece of software. I obviously need the odd plugin in or piece of third party software when I'm working on bigger projects and have to package up stuff to drop into other people's workflows but it hasn't stopped me yet!

It does however feel like it's a bit of a niche to be working professionally on the platform and with a few new projects starting to pile up I'm very keen to connect with some other editors who are very familiar with FCP and might want to collaborate.

I know this isn't exactly what this space is for but it feels like my best bet of connecting with some other FCP devotees. I hope that's OK.

Would love to hear from people who are working with it professionally and might be open to taking on some new projects in the next few months.

Best export settings for creating SD footage for viewing on CRT

Hello, I'm a media artist and I work a lot with VHS and analog video media. Up until now I mostly worked all analog, so I never had to bother with converting from analog to digital or vice versa. Now I have some footage on my computer that I want to play back through circuit bend analog video equipment to glitch it, which is why I'm wondering what the best settings would be to make it look as good as possible.

My plan is exporting my footage as SD and burning it to a DVD for analog playback, what settings would you use for this? I live in a PAL region, so 50i footage at 480p would be best right? is there even a way to output at those settings in final cut? Would love some input from more experienced final cut users

frame.io v4 integrations: import FIOJSON file?

I "upgraded" to frame.io v4 recently, and didn't realise that you can no longer drag and drop comments via the extension. Pain in the hoop.

Does anyone know how to import the .fiojson file into FCP?

FCP compatible for OS 13.7.8 (Ventura)

Bought FCP some years & didn't realise would run into issues not backing up (MY BAD!). Now got new project with huge deadline looming. Anyone got a copy?

I'm on Macbook Pro 2017 running 13.7.8 and it's working great other than this (don't want to buy another laptop yet!). Very happy to DM proof of FCP purchase.

Thanks in advance!

scroll through an image and the loop

Hello everyone,

I'd like to create a lo-fi video with a girl riding a bike and the scenery scrolling by.

I know I need to animate the character alone in Kling and then add an image in Final Cut Pro and make it scroll.

The problem is, I can't seem to get the loop working at all. I'm trying to figure out how to do it, but it must be complex, getting both the image and the transition right.

My advanced age isn't helping...

Thanks in advance :)

Edit controllers

Hello fam:) I was using the Contour Shuttle Pro V2 for a few years. Loved the ability to map shortcuts and macros to the keys and the dial was awesome. I was much faster using this in combination with the keyboard. I took it out of the storage after a few years and I've been trying to use it on my Mac but the driver sucks big time. Almost impossible to use. What are you guys using? Can you suggest something with a dial please? Thanks in advance:)

Sorry in advance for the kinda messy image of what I was thinking haha

Color Space Transform for Final Cut Pro

Hey there, Eric here!

I just wanted to let you all know we just made an actual Colour Space Transform Plugin for Final Cut Pro. It is completely free and will remain completely free.
I just made a video about it:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WLi1eiKug_U

A Colour Space Transform is the ultimate foundation for proper colour grading workflows. It helps you to mix and match footage from different cameras and transforms your footage to Rec.709.

Have fun with the plugin, you can download it here: https://kolor.company/colour-space-transform-plugin-for-final-cut-pro/

Ps.: If this is considered too promotional, feel free to delete this post. Just wanted to share it here, too. :)
