I was sad when 24 in 24 was over, but then:

I was so happy to hear about the new show - 100 Cooks!

But I hate it. I hate everything about it, especially making a chef, cook twice in one episode. But im gonna force myself to watch it because I overly love food network competition shows!

I Was (Briefly) on This Week’s Top 10

Most may not care, some may find it interesting. Either way, if there are any questions about any part of the process I’m happy to talk! Either way, cool experience and always neat to see myself on TV.

Making ice cream on Chopped is so uncreative

Like cmon, imagine if someone in the breakfast round said “Im going to mash all the basket ingredients into a paste and serve it in a bowl!”

The only reason ice cream gets a positive reaction from the judges is because cold cream and sugar make everything taste good.

Any time I see someone make ice cream (so every single episode) it immediately reads to me that they couldnt come up with anything else. Part of the competition is creativity and technical skill, making ice cream demonstrates neither.

BBF: Audience member who is not in the audience?

I've been watching old episodes of BBF and keep seeing a very distinctive woman in the audience. She has glasses and is wearing a white sweater with thin red stripes and a black headband with what appears to be pearls on it. Several times she's been shown for a second or two, usually at the beginning of the show when audience members are the focus, but on the long shots - the ones showing the cooking - she is nowhere to be found.

What's happening here? Did she attend one taping and for some reason they keep showing her? Is she the sister or girlfriend of one of the editors and they keep giving her screen time for... fun? Anyone else noticed her?

Robert Irvine responds to the FN reboot of Restaurant Impossible

Link to full story: Robert Irvine On Food Network's 'Restaurant Impossible' Reboot: "There Is No Anger"

Excerpt from the article:

Robert Irvine is best known to Food Network audiences as the host of Restaurant: Impossible, which he hosted for 22 seasons.

The series ended its run in 2023, but the network is rebooting the franchise as Restaurant Impossible: Last Call with chef Aarón Sánchez and Canadian restaurateur Jen Agg.

With the new series set to premiere July 23, many fans have asked Irvine for his take, and he took to social media to clarify that he has no beef with the network or new production.

“Folks and friends I have to tell you I do miss the [Restaurant: Impossible] show and my amazing team but Food Network has chosen a different route from the show that I built and made into a worldwide brand,” Irvine shared on X, the microblogging platform formerly known as Twitter.

He continued, “I wish them luck and it’s life folks .. there is no anger seriously, I’m busy helping so many folks … [love] you all.”

Restaurant: Impossible originally premiered on Food Network in 2011. The show helped struggling families with their restaurants, with Irvine coming in to advise on ways to improve their businesses and make them profitable. Irvine also had a team that gave the establishment a makeover to freshen up the place and streamline the workflow. In 2023, the show ended its run after 22 seasons, with Irvine saying the show was not what the network believed “fit into who or what they want or the younger viewers like.”

“You’re on Your Own, Kid”! Another huge shift in #ChoppedCastaways 🏝️now forces our chefs to rely on themselves, not teammates. We want to see their personal POV on the plates! Who will meet the moment? And WHO will be #Chopped? 🌴

With just 7 chefs left, the #ChoppedCastaways competition has shifted away from teams, which means everyone must attempt every challenge completely on their own! 🔥 Things just got real.

Kitchen Nightmares repetitive plots

I’ve only recently started watching Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay and everyone I’ve seen has the same plot where the owner/chef is completely stubborn. It’s getting to be boring. Have I just been unlucky or is this all there is?

Alternatives to Discovery Plus in Canada

When our carrier stopped having the food network we subscribed to Discovery Plus.
Then it was bought out and had a new app. It is awful. Since the most recent update It quits partway through a show but the audio keeps playing. Sometimes we have to reboot the app multiple times to watch one show. We’ve tried deleting and reinstalling. It makes no difference.

So I am done. I believe HBO max carries the same channels but I’m in Canada. I think I can get HBO through Crave. If I subscribe to Crave can I get the same channels as Discovery? I was trying to find a way to ask the question on the Crave website but couldn’t find how to chat or ask.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Little girl with really wide headbands on baking or cooking show

Several years ago there was a little girl on one of the baking or cooking shows who would wear a different headband every week. The headbands were pretty with cute patterns. They were very wide. Ive tried searching over and over and cant find which show she was on. My 5 year old niece is staying with me and we are watchin cooking shows. I got her to wear a headband when we cook. I wanted to show her the little girl with the pretty bands. It is not Abby from Kids Baking Championship or one of the twin girls.

100 Cooks premier tonight! pre show and live show discussion thread. Spoilers in comments!

From the FN site:

Give It 100

Episode 101

Host Terry Crews welcomes 100 of the best home cooks in America to the most unpredictable cooking competition. In this round, over 50 cooks compete in five different challenges to impress judges Alex Guarnaschelli and Nick DiGiovanni. The challenges include best noodle dish, a rotisserie chicken battle, an egg challenge, a blind taste test, and best party bite. Twenty-six cooks will be sent home, and the remaining amateur chefs will continue on to compete for a life-changing amount of money!

For those of you with DVRs, looks like a two hour episode tonight.

I hate losing so many cooks in the first episode again..... it would be nice to actually get to know the chefs a little before they are jettisoned off (but that's just me.....)

An interview with 24 in 24: Last Chef Standing season 3's winner

I had the pleasure of interviewing Lee Anne after her much-deserved win.

Lots of fun details here, including that Jonathan Sawyer recommended she bring extra socks to change into every few hours, and also that 24 hours is actually 27 or so because they stop the clock to bring in judges or clear the stations. That makes it seem even more impossible to me!

Anyone who’s watched Cupcake Wars, is there anyone you think was completely robbed?

For example, I think Shannon (Crushcakes) should have won the third episode she was on. I also feel like Jeff (pumpkin guy) shouldn’t have gone home when he did in the second episode he was on.

Nancy Silverton personal style.

I am watching Flavortown Food Fight, and I just have to say Nancy Silverton has such a fun fashion sense. I love her little barrettes and the wild combination of colors and patterns! The only person I love more is Marcus Samuelson.
