I’ve posted in multiple threads over on r/baseballcards about my baseball card shop pack project I’ve been conducting at one of my schools now for 2 school years. This project has been sponsored by a lot of people who have generously donated cards to the cause (or have me cover shipping).

In year 2 of this project I sold an estimated 1300 packs of cards to my students.

Each pack contained 10 cards this year so that equates to roughly 13,000 cards given out in packs (and several hundred-1000? Singles given out in prize box). The student obtain the cards mostly by using their in school positive behavior reward tickets, and I sold them for a cost of 10 of these (called Badger Bucks). Sometimes students receive them in multiples but to me this roughly equates to 13,000 positive acts taken by my students to obtain the cards.

This year I added hit tickets into packs at a rate of 1/50 packs. The kids then got to return it to me and pick a numbered, relic, auto, etc, card from my desk. I gave out roughly 20 of these this year.

I even had a counterfeiting scandal this year, with some students forging higher denominations to get more packs.

All of this is to say I am in search of donations to help continue this project. My students have been requesting any sport other than baseball. If I could get some football they would love it.

My plan for year 3 right now is as follows

1. Increase card count per pack again (year 1 was 8, year 2 10). Right now I’m planning on 12 but if I get more I could go to 15.
2. Increase my “hit” rate from 1/50 to 1/40 or 1/35.
3. Possibly get more packs into their PTO store as well.
4. Create a weekly question for my 5th graders to research/answer to get a pack.

For the Topps chrome release, I decided that I wouldn’t do any breaks and only buy singles. Specifically all of the Detroit Lions Lightboard variants with the exception of Montgomery now that he’s gone, sorry knuckles! The print run is around 225 so pretty rare and cool looking.

Sticking with this is admittedly easier with the lack of love the lions got on the big hits(Kaiju, Tecmo). If there was a Barry Sanders Tecmo(there should be) I’m not sure I could’ve withheld gambling to hit one.

My all in price for these cards was $384.51, or about $38 per card. This is with shipping and tax and was all from eBay. I did buy some blue one touch holders to make the cards look even better but am not including that on the price.

It’s likely the values will dip a little the further out from release day, but I’m very happy with the PC add, and absolutely got a better rerun on investment than the majority of breaks I’ve done.

Perhaps as an experiment, I’ll spend $384 on Cosmic breaks to see what happens!

I’m getting really close to finishing my Select Jake Bates rainbow, and I’m still hunting one card in particular: the Black Dragon Scale. If anyone here owns it or knows who does, please reach out. I know it sold around Christmas last year on eBay for about 500 bucks and ended up getting graded PSA 9. Of course that was the one time I wasn’t checking eBay daily for Bates cards 😂

Been building this for a while and would love to finally complete it. Really appreciate any help or leads 🙏

I'm interested in this card but everywhere I look it says it's a purple stars limited to /25? Unless I need new glasses this looks more aqua than purple stars 🧐 is this a variation or something completely different? Thanks for any info 👍
