What would you do?

Spawned almost two weeks ago. Small containers inside monotub because I didn’t have enough colonized grain. One jar I sort of suspected it might be contaminated because it was quite slow but put it in anyways. I can see growth underneath in the bare one, and no surface contam. I guess I will just start fruiting and hope the slacker catches up.

Need help, no pins

This is my second try to grow. I send it to fruit about two weeks ago, but there is nothing growing.

I got openings at the top so i can squeze this twice a day, so fresh air can get inside. Where marked red, i also have some Cuts for fresh air.

What should i do?

How do people grow mushrooms in consistently hot climates? (30–35°C+)

I’ve been curious about how growers in hotter regions manage mushroom cultivation when ambient temperatures are regularly above 30°C, and sometimes even 35°C or higher.
A lot of commonly cultivated species seem to perform best around the mid-20s °C, and while some can tolerate warmer conditions, higher temperatures often appear to increase the risk of contamination from bacteria, molds, and other competitors.

For those growing in these conditions, what does your setup look like?

Do you:
Grow only during cooler months?
Use air conditioning in a room or grow tent?
Use evaporative cooling, ice-based methods, or other low-cost cooling techniques?
Focus on species that tolerate higher temperatures better?
I’m also interested in how you handle fresh air exchange and humidity when trying to keep temperatures under control. For example, does adding more fresh air make cooling harder? How do you balance humidity, airflow, and contamination risk?
I’d love to hear from both hobbyists and commercial growers. Small-scale growers often come up with creative solutions, while larger operations usually have systems that have been refined over time. Either perspective would be valuable.
If you’ve successfully grown mushrooms in a hot climate, please share your temperatures, species, setup, what worked, what didn’t, and any lessons learned along the way.
Hopefully this thread can become a useful resource for current and future growers who are wondering whether mushroom cultivation is practical in consistently warm environments.

Green spot on the bottom but top is growing fast. Advice?

Hey guys, looking for some advice on this bag.

The front view looks really healthy and the white mycelium is growing pretty fast, pushing up into the substrate a bit more every day.

The issue is that green patch on the bottom left and underneath. The weird thing is it hasn't actually spread at all since Saturday. It honestly looks like the white mycelium completely blocked it off and stopped it in its tracks.

Since the healthy side is growing so aggressively, should I just ride it out or should I just throw it away right now?
Thanks!

Gimme your Sorghum Grain Jar recipe 🙏

Hello everyone,

I would like to make my own grain jar...

I have a 14 liter BigBoy Hawkins PC and I know how to operate it and would like to know how you sterilize Sorghum grain jar.

  1. Do you soak, if yes then how many hours?

  2. Do you boil, if yes then do you get the water to a boil and then put in the grains or boil then grains and water together and finally for how many minutes do you boil it for?

  3. How long do you sterilize it for in the PC?

  4. How much water does your PC need?

On a side note, I was messing around and tried to make a LC jar with just honey and water... after sterilizing it for 20 mins in the PC it came out with a lot of brown particles ... did it caramelize? I sterilized it only for 20 mins so that it doesn't caramelize... any advice regarding this?

Thanks for all all the help I get receive from you guys, I'm new and hope to keep learning everything so that I can be self sufficient in this hobby.

I make these posts not just for myself but also for all the newbies out there who will benefit from all this knowledge! Cheers!

Down the Rabbit Hole

Running a bunch of experiments because my brain gets bored of the same recipe. I’m well aware these may or may not work, but a man has gotta try! Let me know in the comments if yall have any experience adding these to your substrates!! (Home Depot now has 2.5qt mini totes 6 for $10 so I’d grab them if you want to run your own experiments!!)✌🏻❤️🍄
