this time I played with magazine image transfers. I'm getting ready to use laser printer images now that I understand the transfer process. Hopefully I can get it to work 🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 I'll be back with the results soon . . .
I just finished setting everything up for the exhibition. As I already said, the bar is a super typical 1980s Milanese bar, nothing fancy, but I am super happy!
New to all of this, long time pro photographer. I want to start making my own prints from my photos. Needing advice on laser printer I can refill my own ink cartridges without buying all the time.
I'm excited to try photo transfers next! I have a laser printer, but I'm going to practice with magazines first. Any tips?
I've been lino printing for a few months and was able to get a gel plate to have a little break from the carving. Tried a transfer and some leaf overlays. It's great fun, got some ideas for future projects and the it's a nice to have an alternative to lino when my brain needs a break.
I played mad scientist and made a gelatin plate. No real big deal in the kitchen. Mixed well, no bubbles, a few occlusions inside. Easy enough out of the mold, Saran wrapped.
My question is what to clean it with after printing? I’m thinking water might degrade, melt the plate.
Baby wipes?
I’ll use this plate til I can’t then make another. I think I’ll double the recipe so in the 9x13 in. tray the plate will be 1/2in. thick.
2 Tbspn per 1 cup liquid
1 cup cold water
1 cup boiling water
1 cup glycerin
Bloom gelatin in cold water, minimize pop bubbles
Add boiling water, glycerin
Pour in mold
Refrigerate to set 4-5 hours
Sharp knife around the edges to remove
Now for the printing fun….
I’d enjoy any feedback so far.
Thanks.
Experimenting with some new techniques
Hi, all! I've been making gelli plate prints for almost half a year and I've gotten pretty good at getting good, consistent, saturated pulls, but I've never, ever succeeded with applying multiple layers of different coloured paint.
Should I let the first layer of paint dry slightly, or fully, before applying a second coat? Should I use a paint medium to seal in the original layer or is that not necessary? Please, please help!
Waiting on ink for my printer to arrive, so these aren’t as dark as I like. I like the way the double transfer and the star masks turned out though!
I want to thank u/Responsible-Top1893 for turning me on to this technique for image transfer. I took a photo that II made monotone and then upped the contrast (I did this quick and dirty in Canva), printed it on glosst brochure paper on an INKJET printer, used a brayer to transfer it to my plate, then used this orange acrylic to pull the image. This is a MUCH different texture than using laserjet prints. They both look and feel different.
Maybe I am late to the party, but u/Responsible-Top1893 gets all the credit for this revelation!
