Just finished this 9x12 watercolour and I want to create a digital file for future prints and get a print for myself before I send it off to its new home Friday. Anyone have experience with local print shops and could recommend someone?
In the future as I build up more inventory, I would like to do greeting cards, stickers, and custom playing cards with some of my art without having to constantly recreate it by hand so that I am able to have a small business. If anyone has experience with a place that could do this stuff locally, I would like to support local businesses. I'm new to creating prints and products from my art so any advice is much welcomed. And any suggestion of shops that might like to stock cards or larger prints of my work are also much welcomed.
Thanks 😊
I'm not sure if here or r/artistlounge is the right sub or if I even have the right flare, but I hope if I didn't get it right, you'll still be kind and help me know for the future. I've learned that it usually pays to ask questions instead of blundering on blindly.
I am at the point where I am exploring options for making prints and options for marketing my art online and in person and honestly it's so overwhelming. People I talk to like my work, but they're not artists themselves and I don't know where I could find a mentor who knows a little more about this process that I could either shadow and learn from or would share tips when I have questions so I don't have to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes I'm afraid I don't even know enough to ask the right things. So here is what I'd like to know.
What was it like for you to make the leap from just a hobby and something you make to gift to taking it seriously and making a small side business or even more from your art? What do you wish you had known so that I can avoid similar pitfalls?
What are your favourite platforms for hosting a portfolio/website/store? Why did you go with that? I'm looking for something affordable while I work out the kinks if I can. I've seen some lesser known sites in comments recently somewhere, but I don't remember where and my ADHD ass of course forgot to note it down. We're working on getting better at taking notes for future me.
I'm going to a local commercial printshop this Friday to talk to them about making prints of my work and digitizing it. I want to make full size prints of my larger artworks as well as in the future explore reproductions of my watercolour greeting cards so I don't have to keep reproducing everything as an original by hand, as well as stickers, and custom playing cards. Is there anything you wish you had known before you started having those discussions? What should I ask or pay attention to?
It's exhilarating but also terrifying to be on this precipice and not know clearly the way ahead, but I know I need to push through the anxiety and JUST DO IT!
Thanks for being so generous with your collective wisdom. I hope I can give back in the future when I know a little more to those who are where I am now.
I would like to start a YouTube channel with my art and do more marketing, but I find that the friction of setting up my phone as a camera and making sure all the angles are right and it stays in frame while I work keeps me from doing anything. As someone with ADHD reducing friction as much as possible is key to staying consistent. I was thinking that smart glasses might make my life so much easier filming POV art videos with less distraction and friction. But before I drop the money on a pair, I'd like to hear from people with more experience with this.
How do you film your videos? How did you get started in a way that doesn't break the bank or have so much friction you don't end up doing it? If you use smart glasses, which ones? Not too keen on meta glasses and I know there's others out there.
Thanks for helping out and emerging artist.
Finally got myself a gelli plate and it's so much fun! I'm saving up for a printer so I can do image transfers. I tried printing various leaves yesterday and had a blast. Looking to get more plants with textured leaves. I have so many ideas of what to do with this.
Any crossover here between plant lovers and artists? I'm trying to build a list of plants with highly textured leaves for print making as I've recently been exploring this medium more. I love plants and now that I have my own place, I'm slowly trying to increase my collection and I want to get plants that will continue to inspire me artistically. I've got a monstera, a prayer plant, and a spider plant, but while they are gorgeous, they don't have much texture to print with. What are your favourite textured leaves?
Idk if it's considered self-promotion to post pictures of my art, so I'll leave it out for now.
I have traded ATCs before and if you need a voucher for my reliability, I'm sure any of my ATC trades would be happy to. I would also consider making other cards with custom colours. These are just experiments from this weekend. 300GSM watercolour paper, so very sturdy.
Mostly watercolour brush pen & fine liners, but some have alcohol marker and coloured pencils too. Sorry my camera quality sucks right now, so my pics arent the best.
I get the up and down, thin lines are likely just paintbrush swipes being magnified, but why are there such well defined circular borders in the middle where the mold isnt growing, instead of just one solid sheet of mold?
Is it separate colonies that are unrelated of the same species and therefore don't like to touch? I've heard of that between different species on a petri dish where they excrete something that kills off competition. But if it's the same species, does it matter that much?
I dont like this growing next to my shower, but I have been dying of curiosity for several days about why it formed this pattern. I spray with bleach and it goes away for a little while but then comes back. It's the only place I'm aware of where it's growing, and I try to keep the shower curtain away, and the damp down, but it isnt helping.
