Had a couple of hours to kill while the tides are coming down, so I decided to draw what was in front of me. First time on this hike with my partner, this new scene is now a very familiar place, and holds a special place in my heart and memory.
A friend and her husband have been going through his kidney failing for the 2nd time (she gave home one of hers the first tome). They have been so brave and inspired me to create this page.
My older brother, my hero, died October 18, 2025. I still don't know where to put so many of the feelings and I know grief/love is forever. So, art. I'm a poet, that's my medium, and I'm writing a lot, but I needed something entirely different. So I'm making my first ever junk journal and here is my first ever double-sided page. It's incredible, art. It's arranged intentionally but when I actually saw the reality of my brother looking down on me with his proud smile and the text, and that what I'm holding on my shoulder is his hand... I didn't expect the flood that hit me. I think he'd think it's neat.
I love taking photos of my day and creating a narrative out of them in my journal.

Thirty years ago, my hand sketched a bird in flight, capturing a timeless truth that I am only now fully understanding through AP’s teachings. For decades, I lived inside an invisible cage built by my own ego, anxieties, and small desires, mistakenly trying to decorate my prison instead of breaking free. The drawing reminds me that a bird does not fly to prove its worth or protect a reputation. It moves simply because freedom is its true nature. By letting go of the heavy burdens of "me" and "mine," I am learning to drop my mental conditioning and embrace the eternal present, realizing that the liberation I looked for has been waiting inside me all along.
And ironically my thirty year old sketch of a bird in flight beautifully mirrors the deep spiritual essence of India’s Independence Day.
The outer freedom achieved by a nation is a reminder of the inner freedom my ego seeks, to fly completely unburdened, living not in the shadows of history, but in the ultimate truth of the eternal present.
I recently tried this out and I like it so far! I only do it when I have something to add in the evening and don't want to use a new page. But I like the look of it, using different colors and it definitely is a conversation starter and people can't read it easily if you're writing out and about!
I want to get back into making zines, is there any materials you guys recommend to step up my game? Are there any inexpensive printing options as well? I want to print and cut things out as well let me know what you guys have found to be helpful!
I had the privilege of getting to go on a study abroad trip with my school Appalachian State to study the tropical forest ecology and sustainability in parts of Costa Rica. Here’s some of the ones I did while I was in the Monteverde region and the Sarapiquí area.

I liked the look of the page before filling in any text so thought I’d share.
I journal about my favourite songs and anything that interests me. I draw a lot in my journal as well. I have a lot of coloured carboard and I'm not sure how to use it.
I have a few ideas of what I can do with it:
I can write on the cardboard and then stick it in my journal.
I can cut it into rectangles and use it as a headings for my entires.
I can write a quote on it then stick it in my journal.
I can use it as decoration by tearing it and then sticking it at the top and the bottom of my page.
I can draw on them then cut the drawing out and add it to the journal.
I can cut it into shapes eg Stars and stick it in the journal.
I can cut it into small blocks and then write on them and then stick it in the journal.
I'm not sure what else to do with it.
