NYC with a 7 year old daughter- looking for the best girly, classic NYC, must see things to do for a little girl! 🎀🗽(which broadway show??)

Hi everyone! We’re planning our daughter's first trip to New York CIty, and she’ll be 7. I would love all of your recommendations for making it feel extra magical and special for her! We will be staying in Times Square because that is where my husband will be for work.

I’m especially looking for the classic, girl, old school NYC experiences for kids rather than just typical tourist things to do. I have things like the American Girl Doll store, FAO, Eloise at the Plaza, Central Park, and looking for more ideas. Pretty tea rooms, bows, ballet, all the girly things! Department stores? Which dessert places should we go to?? What would make NYC special for a little girl? We also want to do a Broadway show. WHich one? I am thinking Lion King is at the top.

A few things I’d especially love recommendations for:

  • 🎀 The best American Girl Doll experiences- should I do lunch reservations?
  • 🫖 Pretty afternoon tea or tea rooms that are appropriate for a 7-year-old
  • 🏨 Eloise / The Plaza experiences- worth it?
  • 🩰 Ballet, theater, or other performances that a young girl would love
  • 🍰 Beautiful bakeries, ice cream shops, or fancy desserts
  • 🎁 Classic toy stores, doll shops, stationery stores, or places that feel magical
  • 👗 Pretty department stores or shopping experiences that would be fun for a little girl
  • 🌸 Parks, gardens, carousels, or other beautiful places for a little girl to explore
  • 📚 Bookstores or literary spots with a classic NYC feel
  • 💕 Any hidden gems or old-fashioned NYC experiences that you think we absolutely shouldn't miss

If you’ve taken a daughter, granddaughter, niece, or little girl around NYC at this age, what did she love the most? And are there any experiences you would specifically skip with a 7 year old?

Basically, I’m hoping to create the ultimate magical first NYC trip for a 7 year old girl and would be so grateful for your favorite recommendations! 🎀🗽💕

What is up with the hate of having a daughter?

So I have a daughter, she is 2 months and she is my world! My cousin and I were having a conversation about gender roles. I told her how my big brother didn’t do shit at home but I was always cleaning and was told how dirty I am all the time. She lives in a home with 3 female and 1 male. The 1 male is her brother. She was talking about her, her sister and her mom clean all the time. I was like what about your brother? She was like honestly he doesn’t do anything. And I was like yeah that’s so infuriating to me how our moms let the boys get away with everything because cleaning and cooking is seen as a girls job. And she’s like to be honest though if I had a boy I would spoil him and if I had a girl I would give IT away. She said she’s such a boy mom and doesn’t like girls. That piss me off so much and I told her how offensive that is and she shouldn’t be saying stuff like that. My cousin is 35 and childless and I honestly hope it stays that way. I hope she never has a daughter and even less a son and daughter because that little girl would see how unloved she is. Nothing wrong with gender preference but when you mistreat the other gender, that’s trash behavior.

Tall kid struggles

Hey everyone! just looking for some suggestions on where to buy my very tall 5 year-old daughter a doll stroller that will accommodate her height. Shes very much into baby dolls and loves to take them on walks, but the handles on every stroller I've boughten have been too short. Any suggestions are appreciated🙂

Side note: has anyone else had struggles with products not being accommodating for your "not average" child?
