Wanted to go for a "cracked/cracking 'Lava" effect for the troggoths scales - has it worked? Has anyone had a better version? And finally, I've matt varnished one half and gloss the other half, which one works best?

Starting my AOS army with some shrooms on a trip. So far I have painted a squig herd (because who doesn't like some squigs) and a loonboss. Next up is some troggoths and then my stabbas 🍄
Painted this guy up over the last week. First fully painted and based model in the army, though I've got another 600 points painted but not based yet. Looking forward to getting the army up to 2000 points.

Definitely a bit disappointed that the rumour engine post from February turned out not to be a troggoth. All the new gargants look great but was definitely hoping to see some new Troggoths.
Majority is WIP but should be done before this weekend!

This has been on my mind for a while and after I finished painting my guys I had to recreate this.
Using some spray can caps covered by tissue for the ground they stand on with the background being my laptop.
Wanted a little palette cleanser for myself so painting up some of the awesome sculpts from Borgitz Beastgrabbaz. Had a lot of fun testing out a quick kinda messy style. Definitely putting more Gloomspite on my list of future projects...
I just finished the Gobbapalooza warband.
I loved the painters.
Got a troggherd list with all the troggs except a regular dankhold, even mollogs joining in and a skitterstrand and webslinger shaman are joining for the fun. I’m also using the krondspine incarnate manifestation as well because I just got the glorious bastard.
Last time I played against helmsmiths I think it was over on round 2 with almost every trogg being killed in round 1, any advice or wishes of good luck?
Edit: also which is usually better here the saggy fell water or regular?
I am new to warhammer and this is my first time sculpting but I'm really proud of my work on these so far. I found milliput both easy and hard to work with at the same time, so the beards kind of progressed in quality as I kept making more of them. Thought it would be fitting to have them as evil redcaps. I suppose now they kind of look like fungal dwarfs though but that is fine :)
Decades ago, there was a loner grot who left the ice-fishers’ village in pursuit of somethin’ so utterly un-grot-like that the old ones who remember him still spit in the mud at the mention of his name.
They call him Norn Da Lovestruck Git.
After consumin’ a particularly potent madcap brew, Norn wandered into the lair of an old Arachnarok and promptly passed out amongst an uncountable heap of spider eggs. When the old spider woke from its century-long sleep, the stink of the lair had soaked deep into the grot’s flesh. The old beast took one look at him and, somehow, recognized him as kin. When Norn awoke, still dizzy from the brew, he found himself surrounded by a multitude of terrible eyes. And somethin’ inside him snapped. When worldly hunger finally broke through his cracked mind, he made his way back to the village. But upon comin’ back, a longing for his goddess overcame him. What he wouldn’t give to peer into them eyes again.
He never found his way back to the lair.
To this day he wanders through the swamp, more and more embracin’ his inner spider. He really is a poor sight to peer upon. In his old age he still searches for that spider goddess of his, though whether that lair ever really existed, he himself is more and more unsure of. Yet he wanders the swamp lookin’ for her.
In light of recent movie releases, a spidergrot had to join the ranks!
