Ill be honest. This is easily the worst gojira album and nobody can convince me otherwise

Less proggy, less heavy, more radio friendly sounding etc etc. It seems like they kind of abandoned a lot of the things they made them so good to begin with on this. Its fine I'd give it a 6.5-7 outta 10. Way too straightforward and simple for the band tbh. It even lacks the atmosphere of magma for example. Every time I listen to this ove the past couple years I just think ok you wanna tone down the heavy fine.. but where's the prog ??? Look at mastodon they make a lighter sounding record but it's still proggy as hell. The is is just... streamlined and less heavy on top of it. There's honestly not to much going for this album other than just being a cool gojira album with some solid tracks here and there.

Yeah it's the worst lol.

Mea Culpa live was a like a religious experience.

I love the band anyway but never have got the chance to see them live. Watching them open for Metallica last night was awesome and when they performed Mea Culpa I almost teared up. It was so fucking good live. Genuinely my favourite moment of the night. Gojira are brilliant, as they performed I was just thinking wow, these are artists at work. Of course all bands make art etc but Gojira just felt so special live I couldn’t quite put my finger on it besides of course the Mea Culpa performance.

Worried about merch accessibility

I really wanna get some of Gojira’s merch but I’m pretty they don’t deliver to where I live. I’m in Kuwait (I know, very random) and what makes it worse is that I live in the friggin desert, far away from everything. But usually, I we’re getting a package delivered, we usually get it delivered to my grandpa’s place, so that might help, but I just don’t wanna go through the hassle of a 1 hour drive and being forced to stay longer than I wanted to. So can anyone help or see if they deliver to Kuwait?

New fan looking for next Sonic suggestion

So like the title says. I’m looking for the next album to get into after Lenfante Sauvage and wanted to see what the fans would suggest based on what I’ve heard already. I love how heavy that album is with great breakdowns. I also really love the old western influence that comes up in a lot of tracks.

For context I’ve always been told I’d love gojira and let Spotify take me through them again a few weeks back. A couple songs in the Gift of Guilt came on. Definitely caught my ear so I went to the album and it feels like banger after banger. Mouth of Kala, the axe, planned obsolescence, explosia, gift of guilt and my last creation all rip. Wondering what albums would be a good follow up since I don’t see this album coming up high in a lot of fan rankings

Ocean Leviathans (Global Warning cover)

I've had some lyrics laying around in my notes app that are an alternate version to "Global Warming", and I decided to try and make it into a full song (with the help of SUNO AI as I can't recording lyrics for the life of me).

I produced an alternate track for the song, wrote the original lyrics and fed it though SUNO to generate the lyrics.

Just wanted to share it with you guys: https://suno.com/s/IAeGPRu5b4iXHt33

Here's the lyrics if you want to follow along, as the AI sometime has trouble pronouncing words:

[Intro]

[Verse 1]
Three hundred eighty thousands pounds
And thirty meters long
The whales lurk beneath us

Once thought to have abandoned us
But the Leviathans
They chose to remain here

[Breakdown Instrumental]

[Verse 2]
I climbed the tallest trees to see
The flight of whales return
Skies remain empty

But in the oceans deep beneath
The massive pounds of flesh
I can't believe my eyes

They chose to stay on this blue rock
Have long forgotten flight
To help save the mankind

Oceans of water out in space
Coming to flood our lands
We won't survive it

[Bridge Instrumental]

[Chorus]
WE BEG THE WHALES
TO SAVE US FROM CHAOS
KNOWING THAT WE DON'T DESERVE IT
THE MASSIVE BEASTS
DECIDING IN COUNCIL
IF HUMANKIND IS WORTH SAVING AT ALL

A MIGHTY CLEANSE
WOULD RESET THE PLANET
THE GENTLE CREATURE TAKES ME ONTO ITS WINGS
"PLEASE CHANGE YOUR WAYS"
HE SAYS TO ME SOFTLY
RESPECT ALL NATURE, THE OCEANS AND TREES

THE HUMAN RACE
WILL VANISH FOREVER
IF WE IGNORE ALL THE WARNINGS
TEN BILLION GRAVES
WILL COVER THE PLANET
NO ONE TO BLAME BUT OURSELVES

It doesn't quite end on as hopeful on a note as the original song, but I chose the line "10 billion graves" deliberately, implying that the catastrophe coming to earth is still avoidable, and that we still have time to change our ways.

Hope you guys enjoy it.

Best amp settings for born in winter?

Max/high gain kinda makes tapping sound a bit screechy at times, anyone know the ideal setup?

realistically when do you guys think they will drop a single?

Last fall they said they had all but 2 songs done and wanted to have a single out in time for the metallica tour, in october the guy ahead of me in the VIP line asked joe and he said "next year". Im assuming they are waiting to be off tour which ends on july 5th, so Im thinking maybe in the next month? its gotta be close

In gojira's speech to Sacramento, how exactly did he give a warning to america?

I was there! So crazy good. Wish they played longer than 30 mins! Saw them using some smaller lunchbox amps like a Mesa Boogie. Before that French revolution song, Joe spoke a little before hand. Here is the tiktok video if you are interested 🤘

Thoughts from Cardiff 28.06.26

After waiting decades, finally witnessing them LIVE in Cardiff exceeded all my expectations. They more than justify why they always emerge on discussions about the best LIVE acts currently active. And since you’re on this sub, you already know how technically skilled they all are, especially the Duplantier brothers, but seeing it in person is truly breathtaking.

However…

The majority of the audience was solely there for the headliners, Metallica, which is perfectly fine…it is Metallica after all. Love them or not, they are one of the biggest bands in the world, across all genres beyond ‘metal’, and for a bloody good reason. As a result, the crowd response to Gojira was lukewarm at best, with sporadic fans peppered around. Sure, they showed their appreciation, but nowhere near what the Frenchmen deserve. It also doesn’t help that Gojira’s merch was quite underwhelming.

I get it though…despite headlining their own tours to sold out arenas, it’s probably a sound business decision to support a mammoth band with the audience and production to showcase their skills and catalogue. It just made me a bit sad that Gojira didn’t get all the love they truly deserve. But perhaps (hopefully) they won over some casual fans last night, and I guess that’s how they’ll continue to grow bigger.

Got to see Gojira on Sunday wearing my own made shirt for gojira and Metallica! I love Metallica and gojira, but this concert has made me desperate to see gojira headlining and getting the full budget (maybe a crowd which gave a shit about gojira instead of miserable old people who stayed still too)

I think if Fortitude was recorded and mixed like FMTS it would have been better received (by me).

Grind recently came up on my shuffled playlist, and for some reason that listen clicked for me and I realized it was a pretty awesome song. I went back through the album and discovered that after 5 years I enjoyed more of the songs than I didn’t. In fact, the only ones that I still don’t enjoy very much are The Chant and Into The Storm.

I still think the album doesn’t feel nearly as heavy as the earlier releases, but that might just be because they don’t quad-track the guitars anymore. A good chunk of the writing seems to me like it might’ve fit into one of the pre-Magma era if the production process had been different. Grind in particular is a pretty wonderful closing track.

Did someone else record bass on TWOAF and other Gojira records?

I love Michael Jean Labadie but after seeing this video

https://youtube.com/shorts/e5Sp717ccaA?si=\_XUXf4SHlzE77ssM

and listening to the bass track on Toxic Garbage Island I just don’t see any way that he recorded those given the playing in the video above. The playing in the GK demo is quite sloppy, and the bass track to TGI from what I heard was very clean and tight playing, so much different that I just can’t help but think it was someone else who recorded bass on that song and maybe even the album. I’ve also heard it’s way more common than people think for studio musicians to secretly record the parts, I’m thinking it’s maybe a case of this. Anyone have any thoughts?
