Bats Not Bombs! Columbus goths in a parade!

Once again, Columbus, Ohio goths got together to march in the Doo Dah parade on July 4th. Doo Dah is a humorous parade with a strong political edge that allows anyone who shows up to take part. Our numbers were smaller this year, likely because of the 94f/35c temps, but we had a great time!

The wife of Tragic Black's bassist is apparently threatening anyone who speaks up about the band's controversies

Tragic Black are set to play in A Murder of Crows, and some people rediscovered the fact that the band (or at least the lead singer) follow a lot of Trump administration and far-right accounts. You can even see this now if you go to Vision's follow list.

This conversation has leaked into the Red Party's Discord server where the person mentioned has been aggressively attacking other goths who are speaking up on the issue. Even bordering on potential retaliation should they physically come to AMOC. Screencaps are from the server and others I spoke to.

I think this is disgusting behavior from someone who has prominence in the scene and believe this is worthy of getting kicked out from any future events. The people promoting A Murder of Crows need to stand by its community and address this issue. Otherwise I'm inclined to believe the goth subculture is more of a popularity contest then it is about keeping club-goers safe.

If anyone can, please raise a stink about it to the promoters and your local scenes so everyone can know. This is not ok.

Creeps and sex pests in my local scene and club :(

So for context, ive been frequenting a local goth club for about 2 months after finally getting the free time and courage to venture out into my local music scene more, and its been lovely!!!

However, theres 1 glaring problem, and its how many fucking weirdos are prowling around in the scene with KNOWN allegations.

There's this micro celebrity (thats giving him to much fuckin credit because he truly is nothing) in our scene who has a large following of roughly 22k people, and constantly snakes his way around everyone in the scene to establish ties and credibility, but him and his wife have been creeping around our scene and drugging

(and also having their way......)

timid women for years, and its been somewhat of an unconfirmed open secret

(I knew about BEFORE I had anything to do with my local scene).

And recently the club has banned him after a close friend of me and the staff had come forward about his actions and they're personal experiences with them.

Ive been informing our regulars and close friends about what's going on because a large amount of them are unfortunately ignorant to the fact that these arent just allegations, but a long history of things THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!

And its not just this 1 guy, its many others who still prowl in our scene, they like to dissappear, then come back under a different name and act like nothing happened!! And suddenly everyone accepts them back.....

What do you do in this situation where it seems like no one's on your side? Its hard to remove people like this without a large number of people who are properly informed backing you, and without proper evidence it all unfortunately boils down to hearsay and people crying wolf, and the last thing you want is people in your scene thinking some kind of loudmouth naysayer.

It really makes me sad because these creeps linger in spaces that are already compromised by people who want nothing more than to be perverts and fetishists :(

Sorry if this is....ranty? But it feels like the only right place to discuss this sort of thing.....

Much love.

Found out the organizer of the little goth community in my city is transphobic & posted in the “Goths Against Cancel Culture” FB group…

Apparently they were fired from a gig in the past for posting a transphobic meme (the type that makes a “they/them” joke trying to poke holes in the grammar, which just makes the joke teller look bad at grammar).

I looked them up and they even posted the meme in “goths against cancel culture” facebook group for validation that their meme wasn’t bad. The comments from others were not great and all the more damning that this person seemed to have no problem with the comments. I’ve heard he may be anti vax as well as possibly holding other weird/right leaning stances, but I don’t know all the details.

They had an event in a queer bar though recently so I’m confused.

Our scene here seems really small, and I just finally worked on my social anxiety enough that I went to an event and had a blast, but missed the goth prom they later hosted thanks to finding this out. I did make one friend the time I did attend though.

Now what do I do? I can’t keep attending and supporting this, can I? I’m LGBT+ myself as well.

I can’t organize my own events, I don’t know anyone, no money, physical and mental health issues that wouldn’t let me commit to something so big. I was so excited thinking I found a community where I could get back to the me I lost years ago.

I’m in Canada btw and while I likely sound like an anxious teen, I am an adult, lol.

Collaborative Playlist: Underrated Gothic Rock Tracks

Hiya, Dr. Goth here. I recently posted a video of some of my favorite underrated gothic rock tracks on social media and in the comments someone asked if I could make a playlist. Not only did my girlfriend make a playlist of those songs for me, she also made a second YouTube playlist where people can add to the playlist.

This is the link she gave me: Dr. Goth’s Underrated Gothic Rock Tracks

The Official Seething Sunday Thread

I found an interesting documentary filmed in Auckland NZ in 1971 about transvestites/transgendered ladies. It is interesting to see how much has changed in 55 years. The doctor talking about it clinically is remarkably progressive.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=keprqbPbGSM

The sad part is seeing how far we have progressed then backslid in the current conservative era. Things weren't perfect in the 70s-90s and homophobia/transphobia were rife and more often than not it was socially acceptable to go out gay bashing while the cops participated or turned a blind eye. But there was still hope for the future. Now I'm not so sure.

Like it or not the goth subculture as an LGBTQIA+ friendly space is in their firing line too. They will come after us at some point. Conservative right wingers who want our friends dead or gone are not one with us.

Anyway now I have depressed you all, let's hear from you too. How has your week been?

It has been done! My jacket is now complete!

I mean I know a lot of the bands aren’t goth and such, but it’s all in like the post punk/industrial sphere

Can you guys suggest bands with similar vocals to The Frozen Autumn

Please guys I’m in love with their 1997 song “Again” such a beautiful song it sounds like it belongs in 1997 but it doesn’t at the same time it sounds so timeless and it’s just such a romantic and beautiful song it makes me feel like there’s hope in the world or like I’m trying to hold on to that hope but it’s slowly slipping away.

London After Midnight - what’s your favorite song and why?

I love Spider and The Fly, a close second is Inamourada! Both songs are darker toned, but danceable. Great goth/Emo dance club songs! And they never play either songs at the only goth club in my city. 😞

Song recommendations?

Hi! I've been a part of the subculture for three years now. However, I feel like my tastes are really limited to whatever I have time to explore on my own/hear at the rare occasion my town has a goth night. I would really love if someone helped me out with specific recommendations based off of songs I've had in my rotation. I think I only have like 500 songs total on my personal playlist, and I believe like 200 of those are considered only goth adjacent.

Morphine by Boy Harsher — Ugh! I love this track. It's just slow enough for me to listen when going about my day but it's got that ethereal quality to it. Also, I love a good song about dependency in relationships.

Wanna Be Your Dog by Mephisto Walz — Specifically this version! The vocals are so yummy and the sound of the guitar scratches an itch. Tbh it wasn't too loud for me but it had just the right amount of distortion.

I Wish I Was You by Cruex Lies, remixed by Twin Tribes — Literally nothing has compared to when I found this for the first time. It gives me chills listening to it and I had to take a break for a long time just for it to continue to hit the same.

The Unknowing by Jfarrari — This one i think was on repeat when I was falling asleep awhile back for like an hour. I love this track a lot and for some reason it just gives me the vibe of a long night drive with the windows down and the moon out.

Anyway, any recommendations would be great! If you have any questions of course I'll try my best to answer them in the comments. Thanks!

Dancing with strangers at the Goth Club or on Goth nights: social dancing expectation?

Hi everyone, im a frequent nightclubber who usually attends Latino and international nights at my local clubs. Although, Ive always wanted to go dancing at a goth club though because i love the sounds, music and atmosphere(i regularly listen to post punk and darkwave but Ive never been to a club where that genre is the main genre of music being played). And i just recently found a local club that hosts a multitude of goth nights and am soon to attend one.

I wanted to make sure my etiquette while dancing though is good while im there though and wanted to ask about dancing: im used to dancing with strangers at the nightclub in both groups and one on one. Group dancing i feel would be very similar but with one on one dancing I wanted to know if thats a thing at goth clubs? Usually at regular nightclubs with latin and international music i go to, if I see someone I want to dance with I extend my hand or ask if they'd like to dance with me which usually results in some really really fun partner dancing. Again, I know the music is extremely different and the atmosphere as well, but wanted to know if this is something I can still do when dancing at goth clubs or if there's a different social expectation on the dance floor. I saw some posts saying how dancing in goth clubs is more solo than social dancing.

Where is the scene in the Hudson Valley?

Saw a post like this from years ago but it hasn't been answered in ages. I'm originally from NYC and most my friends now live across the country, but I am trying to find friends with similar interests/music tastes. I know I can easily drive into the city but, that's not something I always want to do (especially entirely by myself) so, I was wondering if anyone knew of venues/bars which people in the ALT scene tend to frequent in the Hudson Valley area. I have learned Beacon has a pretty decent scene, but I'll take other suggestions!
