Guidewire Developer With 2 Years Experience Feeling Stuck in Prod Support — Need Advice for Interview Preparation & Skill Growth

I have nearly 2 years of experience working in Guidewire, mostly in production support. Over time, I gained a decent overall understanding of the Guidewire ecosystem and environments. I also have high-level exposure to both configuration and integration concepts.

However, I feel like I’m struggling in a few important areas:

• I don’t come from a strong Java application development background.

• Because of that, I sometimes find it hard to deeply understand implementations and technical flows.

• I can grasp concepts initially, but I tend to forget them quickly later.

• Writing proper notes/documentation is also becoming difficult for me.

• Since Guidewire is not open source, it’s harder to practice independently or use AI tools effectively for real project-level learning.

I want to improve myself seriously and prepare better for Guidewire developer interviews.

I’d like detailed suggestions from experienced Guidewire developers on things like:

• What technical areas should I focus on first?

• How important is strong Java knowledge for Guidewire development/interviews?

• How can I improve retention and avoid forgetting concepts quickly?

• What’s the best way to practice Guidewire concepts outside project work?

• How should I prepare for configuration vs integration interview questions?

• Any recommended learning strategy, roadmap, or resources for someone transitioning from support toward development?

I’d really appreciate practical advice from people who were in a similar situation and managed to grow technically.

Need help regarding my task

Hi, guy from claim center dev team here. Small query- when the payment made on last exposure and is is final payment then the exposure and claim should close automatically.

  • In my case it is closing for manual exposures but not closing for automatic exposures.
  • They said it is OOTB behavior but this one I am unable to figure it out how to debug as well.
  • Open to suggestions
