Changing burger shape - round to oval while cooking, why?

I find with store bought burgers, some brands are perfectly round when going on the grill, but are consistently oval-shaped when done. This doesn't happen with home made ones. Any idea what is happening here? Thx.

<80° & recent T-storm=⏰ 2 SMASH

First smeshboigas since Feb or March & they ripped. They are paired with homemade fries. Only thing id change is make my own smash sauce & maybe have the patties a lil thicker & bigger

Also for those curious, no blue star on my Sarsaparilla ☹️

Smash burger disdain

Seems the smash burger trend caught on and I’m not a fan. Nothing better to me than a “regular” burger, medium rare. Lately everywhere I go, menus have nixed this juicy and delicious treasure to now…..smash burger. I’m not a fan and I’m hoping to see my regular burger be first and foremost. 🍔
