Has anyone been to the LOJr West End performance and seen him at the stage door? Just wondering whether to hang around or not.

Personally I think I would want it to get turned into a series and add dialogue in between and also add scenes that deepens your understanding of each character etc. I would like to keep a lot of songs but I think a few could get shortened and some could be cut and get turned into dialogue instead.

I however don’t know how well the songs and format would fit into television since they break the fourth wall so much, either they would just have to embrace it (but idk if that would feel weird in a series/movie) or they would have to be creative with it idk.

Can someone explain to me the meaning of this line? In Take a Break, Eliza says 'John Adams spends the summer with his family.' because she wants Hamilton to go upstate, but then Hamilton says 'John Adams doesn't have a real job anyway.' I don't get the joke here.

Alr so I realized this when I was, yet again, re-listening to the soundtrack. (Quick side note: I haven’t had time to double check this yet so if this is inaccurate pls lmk yall. Im really just going with my gut here😬)
That in the end of “that would be enough” where Eliza begs Alexander to stay home and take a break while she’s pregnant with his son, the first few notes of “best of wives and best of women” plays! I like to think that the message behind this is, that if Alexander had just stayed home the evening of the duel against Burr (in the song “best of wives and best of women”) he maybe wouldn’t have died. That if he would’ve looked around and seen that ts lwk ain’t worth it he would’ve stayed at home and lived longer.

In a few weeks my daughter and I will be seeing Hamilton the Musical. I’m having difficulty on what to wear. Is there a certain type of dress code, or do we just wear something casual?

I attended tonight’s sublime, transcendent performance of Hamilton on the West End. I have seen the show 7 or 8 times before, and there was so much about this iteration that was profoundly affecting in a new way.

The only downside? A woman a few seats away from me busting out her phone, distracting many in the surrounding seats with the bright light of her screen from some of the most impactful moments of the show as she tried to film or photo. So f’ing annoying. I was going to say something/get her pic, but she and her companion scurried out just as the curtain fell.

Is there any way to credibly report her (I know the seat numbers, tho obvs no way to ensure seat occupier was seat buyer). I’m irritated that she detracted from my experience (and those of my companions), but also because she broke the rules and violated the integrity of the experience in sneakily trying to defy the rules and what—get a sly vid of Leslie Odom Jr singing a few bars?

Maybe I just need to let it go. But arsehats like her ruin things on so many levels for those of us there just to immerse ourselves in the magic of theater.

Hi everyone THIS ISNT A POST ASKING FOR TICKETS, just one that might help anyone who wants to find one on the dates where Leslie Odom Jr. will be performing:

I’ve been looking for some resale tickets since it was announced he’d be reprising his role as Burr, had ticketswap with an alert set for all dates but tickets last seconds before they fly. Also been checking the delfont mackintosh theatres website every now and then for sales on returned tickets.

I finally managed to buy a couple today on the theatre ‘s website!! If you didn’t know, every tuesday they open sign up for standing sits the next week (e.g today they opened the sign up to try and get standing tickets for shows from 20/7 to 26/7) and out of curiosity i checked regular tickets on the calendar even though they’ve been sold out a long time. Turns out there are tickets!! You know when people return them they dynamically post them, well I’m pretty sure they post a whole bunch at the same time the weekly sign up opens. I managed to get a couple seats on stalls on the official website for the original price, and there were still quite a bunch when i checked a while later.

Again, not too relevant maybe but i’ve seen a lot of people looking for tickets on resale and i didn’t know this was a plausible option so hope it helps someone!!

As it’s the anniversary of the duel between Hamilton and Burr, I thought I would copy and paste here two very different reactions to the pre-duel correspondence between Hamilton and Burr. They are easy to access on the internet, and have possibly been published in some of the books on Hamilton and Burr (I can’t recall at this moment).

However, as the letters are probably unknown to people with only a casual interest in the musical, I thought they might be interesting to some on here. The letters are both ‘objective’ in so far as neither man had any love for either Hamilton or Burr, though of course political and regional bias is likely to have influenced both of them. For example, duelling was very common in Randolph’s native Virginia, but much less so Massachusetts, where JQA was from.

The first is that of a Virginian Congressman called John Randolph of Roanoke and the second is that of John Quincy Adams, sixth president and son of another of Hamilton’s foe.

John Randolph (Pro-Burr)

‘In his (Burr’s) correspondence with Hamilton, how visible is his ascendancy over him, and how sensible does the latter appear of it! There is an apparent consciousness of some inferiority to his enemy displayed by Hamilton throughout the transaction, and from a previous sight of their letters I could have inferred the issue of the contest. On one side there is labored obscurity, much equivocation, and many attempts at evasion, not unmixed with a little blustering; on the other, an unshaken adherence to his object and an undeviating pursuit of it, not to be eluded or baffled. It reminded me of a sinking fox pressed by a vigorous old hound, where no shift is permitted to avail him. But perhaps you think me inclined to do Burr more than justice. I assure you, however, that when I first saw the correspondence, and before my feelings were at all excited for the man, as they have been in some degree by the savage yell which has been raised against him, I applauded the spirit and admired the style of his compositions. They are the first proofs which I ever saw of his ability.’

John Quincy Adams (Pro-Hamilton)

‘We have now seen the correspondence between Mr. Burr and General Hamilton which led to their fatal meeting, and I am fully confirmed in the opinion I had entertained of the transaction before. Mr Burr began by making a demand of General Hamilton which he must have known that Hamilton could not, and ought not to answer. To make the matter more sure he couched the demand in terms at which a much cooler man than Hamilton must have spurned. The substance was so vague and indefinite, as to render impossible the very avowal or disavowal it affected to require. The form was studied to provoke and insult, by an assumption of superiority which a man of spirit could not submit to. Hamilton saw through the artifice, and yet had not a sufficient control over his own passions, or a sufficient elevation over the prejudices of the world to parry it. Had he omitted half a line in his first answer which must be considered as inviting a challenge, I see nothing on his part of the correspondence against which any reasonable objection can be raised. The conduct of Mr. Burr through the whole affair appears to me strongly to corroborate that opinion of his character which his enemies have long ascribed to him.’
