Sad Day

hey guys, got the news from my local shop that my 96 Nissan Hardbody 4wd with FS5W71C transmission is exhibiting bearing failure noises again. having already had a transmission rebuild in 2021 for about what the truck costs, i am seriously considering if its worth going down the road again. Wondering if anyone on here has experienced with premature bearing wear in these tranmissions or advice on if there is a more robust rebuild to request to actually make last.

specifics:
GL-4 always used
replaced every 20k
50k on rebuilt transmission

Looking into a 1991 Nissan Hardbody Extended Can. Good price?

What’s up everyone I’m looking at a 1991 nissan hardbody extended can. It’s a 5 speed manual, lifted, matt black and clean title and off road tires. In pretty good condition. Also has a KA24 motor in it, with 208k miles on it. Priced out at $6,000. Mainly would be used for a second car to work and around town, transporting bigger stuff and anything else I may need it for. Was wondering if the $6k was a good price?

Weird issue

I have a nissan hardbody with the z24i and i’ve been having an issue. I’ve had a check engine light but have not really cared bc the truck has ran fine. But now, once the truck gets warm the engine light will turn completely off and the truck will start missing like the entire engine is cutting out, and i have a slight misfire. Once the light cuts back on it’ll run better. I’ve replaced everything spark related including the distributor assembly. Could be unrelated, but when i try to crank the truck again after driving for a while and letting it for 10-15 minutes, i have to put the throttle to the floor to get it to crank. I have to start college back soon and commute about an hour away, and need to get this fixed. Any ideas?

Lumber Rack

I bought my 1986.5 D21 last February. It has been such a workhorse for the last year and ive definitely put it through the ringer. At the beginning of this year I started working for myself and it is my daily driver and work/service vehicle. I just found a used Racki-it lumber rack and added it to the bed. It seems like its sitting a little high? What do yall think? Over all Im pretty happy. I was going to buy a harbor freight rack and mod it but I am over all happier with this purchase (for $50 less than the HF unit). Over all its function over form for me right now but I do think it looks kind of cool.

Have you guys used lumber racks on your d21s? If so what did you think?

Been a lil bit since I've. Shared but here's my 96 & 87. Slowly but surely been making progress on both. Looking to get them both primed, sanded and painted hopefully soon! The 86.5 is a parts truck I bought for the transmission and a few bits. She has looked and smelled better in her days!

Start up issue

A few times this past couple weeks my 86 2.4z won’t start when I turn the key but if I rock it back and forth then it will start. New battery starter and alternator so I know it’s not those. Any suggestions?

89 Hardbody V6 - Crank no start when hot

Hi folks,

I picked up an 89 d21 with the VG30e a couple months ago. Until last week, it ran great, fired up every time and drove smooth. The other day, I was driving up the hill near my house when it started to lose power and sputter. I thought that I had maybe run out of gas, so I ran into town and put a couple gallons in. It fired right up and drove fine back to my house. It sat for a week, and yesterday when I hopped in it fired right up, and I let it warm up to operating temp. 2 minutes down the road, it started acting like it wasn't getting fuel again, so I pulled into a gas station, shut it off, and then filled it up. When I went to start it back up again, I got a crank no start. I confirmed the throttle body was getting fuel, but I didn't have a spark tester for spark. It didn't pop off on starting fluid though. Anyway, after an hour of tinkering, I cranked it up and after about 10 seconds it fired back up! I drove it to my buddy's house, dropped something off, and then hopped back in, and it fired up well again. Then I figured I'd take it for a little longer test drive, so I drove about 5 miles outside of town and it seemed to be running and driving fine. I parked it to enjoy the sunset, and sure enough, crank no start after the sun went down.
I caught a ride into town, and then this morning went to snag it. It fired up like nothing ever happened! But it was hesitating on the highway. I confirmed the distributor was giving spark, at least in cyl 1. I just wanted to ask for opinions on what may be the issue. I'm thinking maybe the ignition coil has gone bad and is on the fritz once the truck hits operating temp? Plugs and wires look to be pretty darn new and good. I'm gonna be throwing a new fuel filter and vented gas cap on it just for s&g but other than that, I would love some advice. I am fairly new to turning a wrench (at least on cars) but am stoked to learn more.

Thanks so much

Swapped out the carpet and deep cleaned the cab and bench seat, massive upgrade

Huge difference and pretty inexpensive upgrade to my 97 single cab XE. Also added a ton of sound deadening

5-lug would be so cool

I think these 5-spokes would look good on anything... But the 6-lugs limited our options to the baby Moons (for a few years, before returning to the stockers).

Help, I need a vacuum diagram!

Hey all, would anyone happen to have a vacuum diagram for a 1991 D21 with the ka24e? I just recently pulled and put the engine back in and I thought I had the vacuum lines right, but it appears I was wrong. If anyone has a diagram or a link to one I’d greatly appreciate it, thanks in advance.

My 95 XE 4cyl 5sp

Had this truck for about 7 years from a family member. Only put 18k miles in that time. Old Hankook 195/75r14 tires were ugly and needed replacement after 7years so I got xterra wheels and a 9/32nds used set of Michelin defender 2 215/65/16 tires all in for $400. First pic is old and 2nd is new

Currently has 122k miles and leaks a little trans fluid from the shifter. Otherwise runs great but the idle seems like it has a slight miss. Is this normal? I replaced NGK Sparks and wires a cap and rotor and its always kinda been like that. Any suggestions?

Bad lifters/ oil pump

1997 D21. Noticed my oil light has been staying on for about 7 seconds after start, also some noticeable valvetrain noise at idle. This is after a fresh oil change, and I went up a weight to 10w40. I'm going to test the oil pressure soon. I think it has an actual oil pressure problem from the noise its making. Do yall agree I'm going in the right direction?

Muffler fell off

My Muffler fell off and I’m wondering how bad it is for the engine to run without one. Also is it going to make my gas mileage drop? Gas prices being so high I’m wondering if it would pay for itself if I got a replacement. Also a question for anyone who has replaced the muffler on their Hardbody, was it difficult? It seems like just a few bolts and hangers.

Looking for 4 of these '96-97 Nissan 4x2 Pickup 14" Alloy Wheel Center Caps

Howdy! If anyone has any of these they are willing to part with, let me know! I understand that this breaks rule 7, but that subreddit has 6 weekly visitors (a waste of time) and I am sure most people here don't mind. Thanks!

Any guesses on what this leak could be?

1989 Nissan D21 4x4 (Z24 engine)

Liquid is semi translucent, does not smell or look like engine oil on the fingers at least.

Just bought the thing and somehow missed this major leak.

Potential cost to repair?

Anyone ever had ECM go bad?

Im wondering if anyone has had an ECM go bad. I have a 1997 4x4 D21 Ka24E.

I have been blowing fusible links for awhile now and am having a hell of a time diagnosing what is causing it to short out. We reset the ECM one time, by unplugging it and it immediately ran fine after that.

Has anyone had a bad ECM and what were your symptoms? Any shorting?
