Looking for a location to do a LARP event in December

Hi all, this may be a long shot but I’m hoping maybe some church pastor with a really imaginative congregation or someone with access to a rec center can help.

I’m a part of a LARP (live action roleplaying) organization. Our third anniversary is about to hit in December where we would want to celebrate by inviting the other chapters in the area to come join us for a day event. Ideally this would be like 9-6 on a Saturday with approximately 60-80 people. We normally meet in a park at CCBC but December weather makes this potentially very tricky. It could be gorgeous and 60, it could be miserable and 20. So I’m looking to see what I can figure out for indoor space.

A perfect location for this would have an indoor space and tables for attendees, a yard of some nature where we could do outdoor activities if the weather is cooperative, and a kitchen (or at least a prep kitchen) where we could set up for a pot luck. A bit of a bonus would be a couple of extra rooms or spaces where we could do breakout arts and crafts workshops and similar.

Our bank account is next to nothing, so I expect I might have to just pay out of pocket, so cost is a factor I have to be mindful of.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. I appreciate it!

Maryland Darter

Saw a post earlier on about the Maryland Darter elsewhere, it is the only endemic vertebrate to Maryland, and was last seen in 1988 in Deer Creek.

It's been nearly 40 years since the last confirmed sighting, but that sighting was already part of a much smaller series of sightings from the 60s to 80s of the species, before then having not been seen since 1912; it camouflages well into the environment.

Does anyone know of any programs for it/attempts to rediscover it?

I've tried reaching out to Friends of Harford, Harford Land Trust, and the Susquehanna Wildlife Society, but so far only Harford Land Trust has replied, and they don't have any active conservation efforts for the species.

Truth House Ministry - swingers club and grooming center

I deleted the last thread because it turned into a slap fight on Turnbull Brockmeyer instead of a discussion on this vile "church." My fault for not framing the OP well enough.

Let's try this again.

Truth House Ministry is located in Abingdon. It's right next to the Canton Car Wash on 924 between Giant and Wegmans. You've probably never given the building a second thought because it has no signage near the street and no name on the building.

It's an underground swinger sex club and the "pastor" has been accused of grooming and sexual abuse by minors.

Here's a detailed account from a child who was groomed and abused by EC Fulcher:

https://noedenelsewhere.com/the-truth-about-truth-house-ministry-church-dr-e-c-fulcher-jr/

If you've seen the Turnbull Facebook posts, you'll see multiple former members in the comments giving firsthand accounts of the abuse suffered at this church.

Fulcher is still leading this church and still has numerous families with children attending multiple days per week. It's well known that the couples in attendance are having sex with each other. The biggest question is what are their children doing while they're at the church.

It's a mystery because this church is not open to the public. You need an invite from an inner circle member to attend and the church is guarded by armed security at all times.

Bridges Montessori

Does any know for sure if Bridges is closing? This close to the beginning of a new school year doesn’t make sense particularly after all the money they put into renovations last summer.

Making friends around Bel Air

My girlfriend and I are relatively new to the area and are having a hard time making friends. She in particular has struggled since I have a few ties to the area that made it a bit easier for me to settle in.

We are both in our early 30s, liberal, open-minded, avid readers, and kind of nerdy. Anyone looking to make a random friend or know of any groups/events that might suit us?

EDIT: Thank you everyone for the replies! I am really thrilled to see that so many others are of a similar mind. I will try my best to reply to everyone over the next few hours; sorry if I am a bit slow.

EDIT 2: Sorry if I haven't reached out to you yet, I am a bit overwhelmed by the number of comments (which I guess is a good thing)! I will try to DM everyone who has expressed interest as soon as I can during breaks from work.

Harford mall

With the Harford mall being torn down, I figured I’d post the link to a video of it during its prime in 1997, it’s so sad to look back on what used to be.

Meeting new people in Abingdon/Bel Air

Hello everyone!

I recognize that there was another very similar post in this subreddit, so I apologize for any repeating here. But I saw a lot of traction on that post and was looking to connect with others as well. I had been thinking about making a post like this for awhile, seeing there's interest has definitely made me more confident to post!

Im 30 (M) and my wife is 29. We both went to Harford County Public Schools. We both work as teachers for HCPS now as well! I am aware of some of the different options for meeting new people around Harford County like the Library and some of the gyms/fitness options, but I do feel limited to my circle of high school friends and the few college ones who live in the area. I personally am not into board/card games too much so I am not sure about going to shops that have these as an option.

I am big into fitness, I ran cross country/track in high school and workout/run most days of the week. I have tried some of the run clubs, but may need to be more consistent in going to have more success there. I am also big into hiking and try to go on the trails a bunch around Harford County. I also will usually try to make a yearly trip or two to Shennandoah, Harper's ferry, as well as other parks on the east coast.

Im a huge sports fan. My top sports are the NHL, NFL, and some MLB and NBA mixed in. I went to the University of Maryland for both my bachelors and masters so am a huge Terps fan. I would love to create a bigger community of Harford County Terps fans!

My wife and I together enjoy hiking and going to breweries. I know i talked a lot about myself so a bit about her, she is into cooking new recipes, relaxing at the pool, going on walks, murder/true crime podcasts, and mystery novels. We would previously go to trivia a lot at some of the different places throughout Harford County during the week but a lot of our teammates have moved.

Now, a huge caveat here: my wife and I are expecting our first child any day now. We may be at the hospital when you read this post. So while its unlikely that we would be able to meet with anyone in the immediate future, we will both be on leave for a bit so there is time to message. It would also be great to connect with other new parents or people with experience with young kids!

Long post, I know and apologize for. There's so much else about us that I'd love to share for anyone interested! Thank you for reading this far! I hope to hear from some of you!

Vandiver Inn

Hi everyone! I do some small videos online about local history and myths. One thing I've always wanted to talk about is the Vandiver Inn since I've heard so many stories about it. If you guys have had any weird, creepy, or haunted-esque stories I'd love to hear them!

Disclaimer, I would like to use them for a video. However, if you don't want them used just let me know in the comment! I'm more just interested if other people have had weird things happen there.

Thank you!

How is Consumer Cellular, Straight Talk, or Visible coverage In Jarrettsville?

Hi there! I would like to switch my parents off of their Verizon cell phone plan to save them money. They live In Jarrettsville. I noticed Mint Mobile (who I use) doesn’t work as robustly at their house as where I live, so that one is out.

Can anyone let me know what the coverage is like from personal experience if you use a MVNO provider like Consumer Cellular, Visible, Straight Talk, and live in that area? Just want to give them a good experience and save them money. Thanks so much!
