Why Crab Creek is called "Crab Creek"?

Does anyone know if there was an actual crab involved or perhaps a crabby individual?

My Dad’s an old guy who needs to get out the house. What’s happening in Hendersonville?

He really needs to A.) leave the house and B.) meet other active seniors. He likes rock n roll (big Elvis fan), pottery, and movies. I think he’d be willing to take some leisurely walks with a group. Not a huge drinker.

How are ya’lls parents keeping busy?

Did you live in Lake Lure in the '90s and want to talk about Eternal Values?

Hi WNC, I'm Jessica Wakeman, a contributing writer for The Assembly, an online magazine about NC politics and culture. I'm reporting on the town of Lake Lure, which appears frequently in two episodes of the new HBO docu-series "Bring Me the Beauties."

To distill a cVERY omplicated story into a paragraph, basically there was a cult called Eternal Values that lived in Lake Lure. (They were in a house on the lake, but the house has since burned down. There's a new house in its place.) The leader thought he was an alien living inside a human's body. They moved to Lake Lure because the leader thought the Blue Ridge Mountains would be a safe place to ride out the apocalypse. They ran a construction company called The Lotus Group and also started a company, Lake Lure Tours. They also sold gemstones, which were apparently quite worthless.

I'm looking to speak with folks who lived in or visited Lake Lure at the same time Eternal Values was there. Did you know any of the cult members? Did you see them around town? Did you hire (or work for) The Lotus Group or Lake Lure Tours? Buy any gemstones? No story is too small.

I can be reached over email at jessica dot wakeman at gmail dot com -- thank you!

Family friendly restaurants in Hendo that aren't downtown?

Thanks for the recs on Chinese buffets yesterday. The post got me thinking about other restaurants in the area that we might be sleeping on. I'm looking for family friendly restaurants that aren't downtown (parking lot a must). Daughter is 10 with a peanut allergy.

We've tried Bay Breeze, Dairi-O's, Mike's Pizza and Pasta, Boon Choo, Kin's Kitchen, Pi Squared, Mo's BBQ, Asakuska, Sakura, Hen-Dough, Fireside Restaurant and Pancake Inn, etc. There's others that I can't think of rn.

Looking specifically for Hendo/Flat Rock eats. Thanks!

Shine?

Has anyone experienced weird and almost arrogant vibes when visiting shine? Felt very unwelcoming. Just seems off inside that place and no one really seems to have a clue to what is going on when it comes to
being a successful restaurant…
weird menu and weirder staff. They refuse to put any effort in accommodating ANY request to food, drinks, or seating.. They completely go against the true meaning of hospitality in my opinion.

Desperate for a Chinese buffet

Hello! I moved here almost two years ago and I'm still trying out as many local restaurants as I can, but I am desperate for a good Chinese buffet. The one off Four Seasons near Wendy's got really, really bad reviews (including a picture of >!a cockroach in the food!!!)!<so I definitely have not gone there. Is there a good Chinese buffet in town? I really don't want to go to Asheville if I can help it. Also, I've tried and LOVE Kin's Kitchen. Thanks!

Edit to add: We've been to Lon Sen. Good food! But we think the oil they use to make the food makes my husband sick. He's been violently ill the few times we went. I think he's got an unknown food allergy of some kind. I'm sad because the food is so good!

Hiking recommendations near the area?

Hi! I’ve been visiting here for a few years now and have been to the DuPont waterfalls countless times and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations in the nearby area! I’m willing to make a bit of a drive too but was hoping to find some new trails preferably with swimming holes or waterfalls :D . It would be great to find some lesser known and less busy areas but I’m sure that’s next to impossible during the summer!
Thanks!

New to area - Preschools?

Any recommendations on childcare/preK for a 4 year old in the area? My ability to accept a job at Pardee hinges on finding preK care for my youngest. Where I live the preK's are difficult to get into and are typically full before the previous school year ends. I need full day. Any help on where to start searching would be great. Thank-you!
