Is this normal thing because of the valves or is something else wrong? I'm on the final stages of rebuilding the engine and would like the thing to actually work at the end of it... when rotating the engine I can feel a tight spot where it doesn't spin as smoothly by hand. any answers would be greatly appreciated thanks
Hi, I have a 2017 honda MSX. And recently, I've been having trouble shifting into neutral when the bike is at a stop.
Usually, it either shifts up to second only, or I can't move from 1st gear at all when the bike is at a full stop.
I'll turn off the bike, and it will shift into neutral easily.
I've tried adjusting the clutch and it seemed to help a little bit. I also noticed that it started happening a few weeks after getting an oil change.
It doesn't happen all the time, but it's a bit inconvenient, and I'd love to know what else I can do to trouble shoot it.
Thanks for reading
I don’t know anything about these bikes, thing looks fun!!
PART 3 NEED HELP WITH SLIGHT ISSUE !
Here’s how it went. I bought a used 2023 Honda Grom and it had axle sliders installed already so I wanted to take them out. I wanted to take them out so I could adjust the chain adjusters because I couldn’t reach them before. I had to mess with the back wheel/take it out and putting it back in with a pain in the ass. I’m not sure if I slightly put something out of place whether it be a brake spring or the spacer or just something that I wasn’t paying attention to, but ever since now every time I drive in first gear it has a metallic scraping noise. You can hear it every rotation of the wheel, but once you get into second gear, it gets less noticeable and any gear above that you can’t really even tell.
NOISE ISSUE/ METALLIC SCRAPING (possibly?)
In these two videos, I demonstrate me accelerating in second gear and going down to first gear and you can easily hear the loud noise it makes!
Hit 165.0 miles per gallon today.
Hi everyone,
I have a 2023 Honda Grom (MSX125) with only about 260 km (160 miles) on it. The bike has barely been used.
I recently took it to a mechanic for an oil change. The oil cap had previously not been fully seated, and the bike had been stored under a cover where there may have been some sand/dirt around it.
The mechanic showed me the drained oil and said there was a significant amount of sand/grit in it. I attached photos of what he showed me.
He told me that the engine should be completely disassembled and cleaned with gasoline/solvent. He quoted me around 20,000 TL (roughly $500–600) for the job.
However, I became suspicious of this mechanic because he previously told me that he had opened part of the engine and inspected it, but I later realized that he had not actually opened it. He also asked for another 7,000 TL for that work, although I only paid him 2,000 TL.
The mechanic changed the oil to 10W-40 motorcycle oil, but did not replace the oil filter.
Because I don’t really trust this mechanic anymore, I took the bike back and plan to have another mechanic inspect it.
I have now removed the oil filter myself and took these photos. I don’t see anything resembling the large amount of sand/grit shown in the drained oil. There doesn’t appear to be a significant amount of metal debris either.
So my questions are:
Does the oil in the first photos really look like a serious amount of sand/grit that would justify completely disassembling a 260 km engine?
Does the oil filter in the attached photos look abnormal to you?
Would you replace the oil and filter, ride the bike for 50–100 km, then drain and inspect the oil again?
Would you inspect the oil strainer and oil pump before considering engine disassembly?
Could the particles in the first photos simply have come from outside through the poorly seated oil filler cap?
Is 10W-40 motorcycle oil okay for short-term use in a 2023 Grom, or should I change it back to 10W-30 immediately?
I’m mainly trying to determine whether I’m dealing with a genuine contamination problem or whether the mechanic is exaggerating the situation.
I’d really appreciate opinions from people familiar with the Grom/MSX125.
Started my grom today andddd 🫣
2016 grom in the process of being rebuilt from the camshaft back up. First day of getting the engine running is was fine but the next day I start it up and it sounds like the starter isn't engaging... open it up to see this
Now I need to take it back apart to find the broken piece, nothing else looks scratched like the piston is okay but after 2 months of getting this thing together it feels like I won't be on the road again until the new year...
Just bought a grom for $2k 1050 miles.
Garage kept. The year and the miles just don’t make sense I think bro dropped it once and quit.
OP vanished off reddit so cant ask them. Anyone know what front fender this may be off off it looks more 90s style fender with the kick out at the back than say a crf50 people use on these bikes i like this style much better but cant find it i have looked high an low
Just got my first grom and it runs pretty great, but after a few days suddenly it will only start up if it's in neutral (which is super inconvenient if i accidently kill it while at a stoplight lol). Anyone know what might have happened? It wasn't like this when i first got it.
Hey all! I recently acquired a 14’ grom that has a 150cc big bore kit installed. I didn’t know it at the time and it didn’t seem like the previous owner did either. When I ride the bike after it gets warm (a couple minutes after starting). only when I’m riding a consistent speed it feels like it cuts fuel for a few seconds. After it falls on its face it picks right up where it was and runs fine for maybe 5 to 10sec and does it again and again. It’s really bothersome and I’m curious if anyone else has run into this issue or something similar before?
Also to note. The bike does have a power commander installed which I haven’t hooked up to a computer yet. And the spark plug is white like the bike is running lean. Tune issue? Or something else?
Thanks!
Last post was just an after shot, but here is where it started.
