Best produce in town?

which store is the best for fresh produce? I went to a store other than my normal hoping the produce would be better there and it was still not great. I just want to get some strawberries that don’t have several in the box that need to be discarded or have pieces cut off.

What school is best for a gifted child?

Looking at moving to Idaho Falls soon as my husband is seeking employment at INL (a position in the city not at the lab). I have a daughter who will be in 1st grade next year and just wanted to learn more about the gifted programs they have available in the different school districts. I know Idaho isn't known for having stellar education (I grew up in Southern Idaho) but still want to give her the best we can. We suspect she has ADHD so keeping her engaged whether from challenging curriculum or extracurriculars (arts, sports, or stem programs etc) feels important for us. Any specific advice of schools you liked would be appreciated!

Other context:

- I have two daughters- 6 yo and 1.5 yo.

- I grew up Mormon so I understand the culture. Most of our friends have been Mormon in our current community and its been a nonissue. We hope for good friends for our daughter who is extremely sociable. I've read mixed reviews on exclusion but I'm remaining hopeful.

- City life probably suits us more. I want to make use of the zoo and library and other kids programs. We value all the family friendly activities.

- The sports programs seem comparable to me across the districts. I foresee basketball and volleyball in our future. My daughter is also extremely creative.

Taking advice on neighborhoods and schools!

This is what's happening in IF

Hope this doesn't upset the mods. This guy perfectly sums up what I see and hear in IF and, moreso, Ammon: the older generations trying like hell to conserve status quo because they get so much benefit from it.

Electrician Apprenticeship

My boyfriend and I are both working on building up our careers. We are both in college full time and it’s feeling absolutely impossible for him to find an apprenticeship for electrician work or trade of any kind. Do they just not exist? Or are we looking in the wrong place? Do you have to know people to get into those? We are both very hard working and motivated. Just looking for some guidance in the area if anyone has any info

Chad Christensen's Hidden Record - Idaho District 35

Idaho's former disgraced Rep. Chad Christensen campaigns against crimes against children. In 2020, he used his office to put pressure on IDOC to free a man on parole for kidnapping a minor (and other disgusting charges like incest and sex crimes against a minor). Then, after helping the man get out of jail, he pursued an affair with the man's wife. This is one of many things he's trying to hide from voters.

Chad Christensen campaigns on his bragging about being "former law enforcement," except he was fired from Idaho law enforcement (IDOC/Parole Officer) for filling his parolee's voicemail box with rap songs containing lyrics with death threats. Fired for being too aggressive, then Blackfoot PD rejected him as a police officer after looking into his work history.

So many things he's lied about, all out in the open now.

Now Chad Christensen wants voters to put him back in office while claiming these are "evil attacks" against him. Since when is sharing verified public records considered "evil" unless he really does not want people to know the truth?

All of this is documented — court records, deposition testimony, business filings. He's running again in District 35.

Thought Idaho voters should see the receipts: https://chadchristensen.org/his-platform

Also, look at his response: https://chadchristensen.org/his-response

Men taking young daughters to bathroom

Hey everyone, I (F) have a 3 year old, almost 4 year old, daughter. When out in public, I’m not always able to take my daughter into the restroom and will have my husband take her.

When he takes her, he will take her into the women’s restroom if there isn’t a family restroom. Women’s restrooms are generally cleaner, there is a smaller likelihood of a nasty human peeping on my kiddo, and there aren’t male genitalia out with hardly any covers (urinals).

However, I know that being in an extremely conservative state, there may be some thoughts about this. I also recognize that Reddit is more of a liberal platform, but I’d like to hear others’ thoughts on if they think my husband taking my daughter into a women’s restroom is appropriate.

Edit: thanks to everyone who was respectful and answered my question! I hadn’t thought of some of the points y’all made. My husband and I will be making a change in our practice moving forward ☺️

Wedding Venue Ideas

Me and my fiance are looking into getting married at the Idaho Falls temple this August! We would like to rent a place we can hold a reception (lunch for immediate family then reception for everyone invited) and would like to find a place that has both indoor and outdoor areas for a reasonable price. We don't need a full venue with a ceremony, just a place to host friends and family for the day. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas? I've looked at air bnb's as well as some places around town, however everyone I can find has the "wedding" price. We're just looking for a relatively nice place to host everyone without resorting to a basketball court in the church XD. Thank you in advance for your input!

Gem Prep Idaho Falls new principal in trouble

I want to share an incident that reportedly occurred at Gem Prep Charter School in Pocatello on May 13 because I believe situations involving student safety deserve transparency and the public should be informed.

A special needs elementary student wearing a hat was approached by Principal Tom Coxson he yelled at the student to remove it. Before the student could respond, the hat was removed forcefully. The hat had a drawstring secured under the student’s jaw, which tightened when it was pulled off and allegedly left marks on the student’s neck.

The child became visibly distressed during the incident, and other administrators eventually intervened.

Multiple students reportedly witnessed the interaction, and it has been captured on the school’s camera system. The event is literally caught on camera.

The goal of posting this is simply to encourage awareness and accountability within the community. Also, he is going to be the new principal at Gem Prep in Idaho Falls starting in August.

Proposed AI data center in Pocatello

These data centers do a lot of damage in the communities where they're built and raise the prices of utilities. You think your bills are high now? Just wait. Spread the word. Tell people. There's a meeting on the 14th. Get out there and tell them that you don't want yet another outside interest snatching up Pocatello land and hurting our community just to funnel dollars out of state. This probably would have been fast tracked under Blad, who knows if who's in charge is going to do any better at resisting the palm greasing. Truly egregious. Tell people, and tell those people to tell people!

Welding jobs?

Looking for a welding job in the area. I have over 5 years experience doing different things in different states/companies ie, structural, pipe, railings, SMAW, GMAW, GTAW, arc gouging, and blueprint reading. Looking for something over $25/hr and i won't be in the area until late summer early fall. I want a job that cares about my safety, seeing someone get crush at a previous job makes you open your eyes to dangers more.

Do we have any support or socialization groups for neurodiverse adults around here?

Just as the title says, it's very difficult to make friends as a neurodivergent adult who doesn't enjoy outdoor activities like hiking, fishing, or camping in this town. Are there any organizations or even informal groups around here that try to solve that? I know there are some support groups for the parents of neurodiverse children, but us kids grow up, you know? And those problems don't go away with age.

Is there still a dentist in the Grand Teton Mall?

That's the only place I ever saw TVs in the ceiling.

I also thought having a dentist in a mall was very interesting. I'm wondering is it still there?
