Brief Review of IIIT Kalyani
Location: One major demerit of IIITs is their deserted locations. However, IIIT Kalyani has a great location. It is a college town with AIIMS, IISER, KGEC and many other colleges. Everything essential is round the corner. You will get good restaurants with affordable prices. Extremely clean, silent environment—nothing much to do at night though. The city is full of grounds and greenery.
Time Table and Curriculum: Attendance policy is not that strict. Academic pressure isn't that much as we have core subjects from the very beginning—ECC, CSE, Maths, Physics and Humanities. We only have CSE and ECC practical classes. We don't have to do unnecessary projects and all.
Classes are held 9 to 1 on 3 days and 10 to 4 on 2 days with a 1-hour gap for lunch. We get 2 holidays a week.
Curriculum is extremely well oriented and relevant. You will get more than enough time to invest in your personal deeds.
Faculty: Professors are highly qualified. They are really helpful and are well versed in their methods. Most of them have qualifications from IITs and abroad. Though you might feel it difficult to understand some lectures, they will be ready to help you.
Campus: Biggest concern for us as well, to be honest, though it's almost a surety we are getting it finally. Most of our drawbacks arise from the lack of a permanent campus.
There will be unity, proper campus life, senior-junior interaction, sports and cultural events, cross-college events, etc. The new hostel has great facilities and big grounds attached.
There are many fests and concerts happening in Kalyani in various colleges and Central Park—we go to attend them. Soon we will be having our own fest as well. Sports tournaments are also organized regularly. We have a tie-up with Kalyani Stadium for now. Seniors are extremely chill and helpful.
Placement: Brochure hasn't been released till now, but you can expect good packages if you study hard. The IIIT tag will help you 6–7 years down the line. We predict cutoffs to decrease sharply once the permanent campus is operational and it has immense potential for growth.
Personal Note :- It's entirely up to you to choose the college you'll be spending your college life in, take your time, research about it and be fully satisfied before you make your decision. Don't fall for multiple opinions whether it be negative or positive, let your conscience decide what's best for you.
