It’s almost 100° but you can cool off in the Kankakee River and there are private locations past the bridge with breathtaking views

How do I transfer my Virginia CDL to Illinois?

I have a commercial driver's license in Virginia with various endorsements, and I've just moved to Chicago. I need to transfer my license, of course, but the SoS' website is fighting me when I try to make an appointment. (It wants me to log in with a 14-character driver's license number, but my VA license is only T + eight digits.)

I'm only in town for a couple weeks, I gotta get this done. Is there an SoS office where I can just go with my documents and wait in line? (Also, are there even any DMVs in the city? The map isn't showing any closer than Elk Grove.)

I-94 shoulder cutting

I-94 northbound near Dolton heading into Chicago. Can people not be civil when there’s traffic? A little bit of inconvenience and drivers start using the shoulder lane to try and cut others. You’re literally making the situation worse for everyone.

Justice medical assualt

A former friend launched this petition just 2–3 months ago. She suffered abuse from her gynecologist as a teenager, but because earlier abuse had left her unheard and disbelieved, she stayed silent for years. The petition needs more signatures to help extend Illinois’ statute of limitations. Please sign and verify by email to stand with victims like her.

Fascist Freak Out at Edwardsville Protest

At the Friday protest here in Edwardsville, a man aggressively approached the peaceful protestors and started yelling at them in a threatening manner. He was corralled away from the protest without major incident. Although he made unwanted contact with a number of protestors, no injuries were reported and he didn't return after leaving.

Anyway, I hate Illinois Nazis.

Hand drawn map of Illinois, part of my American Atlas project!

Hi everyone, and welcome to a project I call The American Atlas! I've made hand-drawn & colored maps of every state in the US. Now I’m here sharing them all on one big journey across the country 🗺️🇺🇸

Today, I have your very own Illinois, the Prairie State! 🌾☀️🎍

From the skyline of Chicago to the rolling prairies, rich farmland, and winding Mississippi and Illinois Rivers that shape so much of the state, Illinois has such a distinct identity and was very interesting to draw. Cities like Chicago, Springfield, and Rockford stand out, as well as beautiful areas such as the Shawnee Hills in the southern part of the state.

I’d love to come to Illinois myself sometime. Chicago, Springfield, and the Garden Of The Gods all stood out while I was making this map! But let me know in the comments, what’s your favorite place or some can’t-miss destinations in Illinois?

Anyways, thanks for taking a look at my map!! 🇺🇸🗺️

Help us rehome Ruby!

Please, if anyone could just boost the signal. Surely there's someone, or someone who knows someone who knows someone, that could take in this dog. Ruby truly is a great dog. She's easy to care for, she's funny, she's sweet, she's well behaved. She gets along with all humans adult and children, and all dogs big and small. She's spayed, vaxxed, dewormed, and chipped. She just has a strong prey drive and can't live with cats.

Her backstory: Ruby lived in a home that neglected and abused her. Then a kind person took her and, and she loved her as well as she could but just couldn't take care of her correctly and her HOA forced her to give her up. My good friend took her in, but Ruby couldn't come into the house because of the cats, so she was living in my friends garage instead. And no offense to my friend, but garages are dirty, and there were no windows, and it was starting to get hot.

So, we took Ruby on a trial basis. I wanted her, but I knew it may not work with the cats. There was a backup family otherwise we'd have never taken her, but they fell through.

Honestly Ruby is a great dog, but she just cannot live with cats, and my cats are stressed out to the limit. I'm asking if anyone can take her, or ask around to the people you know, or ask people to ask people. I find it hard to believe that in all of the Peoria metro there isn't anyone who would take this dog, but I'm reaching out to the rest of Illinois and I will go out of state for the right situation.

DM me if you'd like to meet her. She is super friendly and very sweet!

Thank you.

EDIT: Okay, I really let another poster get to me, and I want this to be a positive post. I'll share more context here and then delete my frustrated comments, because life is too short to be stressed out on reddit...

FAQ:

"Why don't you take her to a shelter/rescue/foster?" - I've called several in the area and they are either at capacity or I'm still waiting on a callback. I have a few outside of my area I haven't tried yet but I will continue to widen my radius after the holiday.

"Why don't you try Facebook groups or Craigslist?" - I have! Those are good suggestions though!

"Why post on Reddit instead of trying one of the many shelters?" - Again, I've been calling all the shelters and rescues with no luck. The link I shared in this post is to her Adopt a Pet listing, which is recommended by several of the shelters. Interested parties can apply there where they will be screened and interviewed. I'm not going to just drop her with a rando. And I don't expect anyone to just take a pitbull from me either, I also expect to be interviewed.

Any other questions, please ask! I'm probably not responding to comments I think are negative or unhelpful though. I need Ruby to find a home ASAP and I'm trying every avenue I can conceive of. Even asking strangers at the McDs drive through.
