Incoming Transfer for Jan 2027

Hi, I am planning to transfer to ISU for Jan. 27, I started at CC 1st after graduating HS in May 24. I was planning to go transfer to UIUC but they have denied me.. After speaking with my CC counselor I only have 3 elective classes to take in the Fall to graduate w/ my Associates. I would be incoming Junior. I was accepted for this coming fall to ISU Anthropology program but decided to just finish my Associates and the transfer.

I'm still trying to decide if ISU is the right choice or other universities... Can you let me know what you love about ISU, the diversity (I'm Male/ Hispanic) clubs, study abroad programs, etc...

Also I know I would have to find place w/ roommates possibly, so I would be coming in not knowing a lot of ppl. I am from outside the city like 5 mins from the border...LOL but was born & raised north side of Chicago until high school.

Getting around in winter

Hey all! I'm an incoming soph transfer that'll be living in hewitt. I have been thinking about how i'm gonna be getting from point A to B in the winter (like negative temps). I have been planning on skating as my main mode of transport, but that obviously won't work in the ice and snow. Does the bus go from Hew-Man to either of the dining halls, or do we just have to struggle through the cold?

Thurs 6-11 @ 6:30 - Online Antifascist Documentary Screening and Discussion with CIIF Renegade Film Club

Please join us for a public anti-fascist documentary film screening and community discussion.

The format is simple, we'll post the meeting link* on the PolRev and fb event pages shortly before we go live, then you can tune in with your dinner or snacks in your own comfy spot at home and we will all watch together on the shared meeting link screen. Feel free to text chat or ignore it completely during the screening, then afterwards we can all unmute and discuss the film(s). These will be pretty loosely organized discussions.

Depending on the length of the film(s) expect typically about 60-90 minutes of watch time and about 60 minutes for discussion. These are all publicly available films so you are also free to watch them on your own time and jump straight into the discussion, or just watch and leave, whatever you want to do! We don't take attendance and there are no grades.

This first one will be online. We can do in person as well later, (have projector, will travel,) it's whatever people want! Better times? Days? Movie suggestions? Let us know.

Episode 1

"Don't Be a Sucker" official US anti-Nazi short film (20 mins) from post WWII

"The Path to Nazi Genocide" explaining how Hitler and the Nazis rose to power (~40 minutes)

Discussion (~60 minutes)

*We use a free and encrypted meeting platform called Jitsi, it is very similar in function/layout to zoom but does not require a download or even to make an account, works on browser, is more secure and anonymous, and does not harvest your conversations for AI training data without your consent. There is a phone app, and for limited hardware or locked down devices it may help, but in most cases is not necessary to download and should work just fine from browser.

Organized by Central Illinois Iron Front, see our main page for more information, events, and ways to connect: https://linktr.ee/centralillinoisironfront

Waterson or Hewitt for Marching Band Students

I just graduated high school and I'm planning on joining the marching band next year at ISU. I thought I should probably have a dorm at Hewitt-Manchester, but would Waterson be good too? Is there a big difference?

Fall job hunting

My son is considering getting a small part time job this fall as an incoming freshmen. Any suggestions on when and how to start looking? He won’t move to the area until move in day, so looking for a job might be difficult. Any suggestions? Should he spend a few days down there beating the pavement? Find online apps and fill them out from home? Will there still be jobs available if he waits until he moves in in August?

How did everyone hang stuff up in their dorm?

I’m an incoming freshman and a person who loves having posters and frames on the wall, and I was wondering how other people have hung stuff up without damaging the wall in the past?
