We have a public meeting this Thursday. Primarily we will be working on a chart and survey/questionaire to send to local candidates. Our goal is to chart positions to create an AI surveillance tech fact sheet for voters.

UUBN is back for our THIRD annual mUUsic in the garden community music festival! Enjoy the family friendly, welcoming and inclusive vibes as we celebrate with all of those in the community.

Right in the UUBN backyard, (it's not church music though!) a free show for everyone where everyone gets a chance to win a prize just for showing up. And we pay the bands! Come enjoy the talent and some food from Bay Area Mexicana food truck and/or some ice cream and hot drinks at night.

We are still looking for last minute help, sponsorships, and raffle stuff as these things often go! If you are interested in any of these things, please reach out to the event email asap! We have food covered with one truck for this size event but would love to have backup options in case something falls through.

We will have a FREE children’s/teen gender affirming closet generously provided by Gender Euphoria! Enhance your wardrobe, AND your vibe!

Child/teen must be present to retrieve clothing!

We will be distributing all of the shoes that we’ve collected over the summer! Come pick out some new kicks!

Shoes are available for children under 18 only. Two pairs per child. Child must be present to claim!

Join us for an afternoon of digital security education! Your phone is constantly sharing private information with tech companies, which can be a problem when fighting for what you believe in. The solutions are simple and anyone can do them. Bring your phone and let's get it secure together!

The class begins at 3:00 and runs about 90 minutes with Q&A. We will open the doors early at 2:30 and have time after for people to engage with some community tables representing aligned non-partisan community groups, or just hang out or mill around and chat.

The Normal City Council has chosen to pass an inhumane and unconstitutional ordinance that criminalizes our unhoused neighbors. The people of Bloomington-Normal passionately reject this ordinance, and will commence direct action in accordance with our First Amendment right. We REFUSE to normalize discriminatory laws and cowardice, especially from our community leaders. Our community is coming together this Friday, July 24th to urgently organize protests in retaliation to the harmful ordinance passed by Normal City Council. We will be meeting at 6:30pm in the Unitarian Universalist Church of Bloomington-Normal, located at 1613 E Emerson St. Bring ideas. Bring friends. Bring an empowered mindset. Bring your passion. It is time to step up and advocate loudly and unapologetically for our most vulnerable neighbors, and to show them that they are wanted, welcome, and cherished in this community! It is also time to show our elected leaders that we will not permit or regularize inhumanity, in any way, shape, or form. The time to act is NOW! ✊ We stand together, WE KEEP US SAFE.

Please join us for a training on how to administer the lifesaving anti-overdose medication Naloxone (Narcan) and about the stigma around Opioid Use Disorder. We now carry Naloxone (Narcan) at UUBN and we would love for our members and friends and visitors and anyone in the community to learn how to use it. No cost and no registration needed and we do not collect your information.

This training will be led by McLean County Recovery Oriented Systems of Care and co-sponsored by BloNo Helps, Central Illinois Iron Front, and UUBN Social Justice Team. There will be tables there to engage with them and other community members before and after the event.

In 2021, the Illinois legislature passed the SAFE-T Act, a criminal justice reform omnibus bill meant to address systemic racism in the criminal legal system. At the center of this reform package was the Pretrial Fairness Act, legislation ending money bond, designed to reduce pretrial jailing. In September 2023, Illinois became the first state to eliminate the use of money bond. This session helps equip communities with the knowledge and skills to understand not only the Pretrial Fairness Act but also help out community members that encounter the criminal legal system. Join us to ensure people feel comfortable being able to speak to their pretrial rights under the Pretrial Fairness Act.

Presenters from the Illinois Network for Pretrial Justice will explain how pretrial hearings look under the new system, the overall success of the law thus far, the Pretrial Success Act, and future challenges.
