DJB official asking for 25,000 bribe to waive a wrong ₹53,000 water bill — what should I do?

I’m dealing with a serious issue with Delhi Jal Board.

There is a wrong water bill of around ₹53,000 on my connection. When I approached the concerned DJB official regarding correction/waiver of the incorrect bill, I was allegedly asked to pay ₹15,000 as a bribe to get the bill resolved.

I have not paid the money.

I want to handle this properly and legally rather than simply paying. Has anyone dealt with a similar situation with DJB?

What would be the safest way to proceed? Should I approach DJB Vigilance / Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch, and is it possible for them to take action based on the demand for a bribe?

I’m also concerned that if I complain directly to the same department, the official may create further problems with the water connection/bill.

Any advice from someone who has actually dealt with DJB corruption complaints would be appreciated.
