We made a feature film in 3 days with €0

Last year I had a bit of a panic because I was turning 35 and still hadn’t made a feature film.

So me and a few friends just decided to stop waiting around and make one ourselves with absolutely no money.

We shot the whole thing in 3 days.

The film is called Outer Heavens. It’s a black and white feature film with masks, long takes, static shots and a lot of improvisation. We made it by basically building rules around our limitations instead of fighting against them.

Our cinematographer Conor English only had 3 days free because of work and family stuff, so we said fuck it, let’s lean into that. One or two takes per scene. Long theatrical shots. Minimal lighting changes. Keep moving no matter what.

What was interesting was that the limitations actually started making the film better. Storylines started appearing while we were shooting. Characters changed. Scenes changed. We had to completely let go of trying to overly control everything and just follow the film where it wanted to go.

I just made a video properly breaking down the whole process because some people online seemed really interested in how we actually pulled this thing off.

Here’s a link if you wanna watch https://youtu.be/zcKrgWaYnu4?si=1z885zlmrJ1n0uCQ

Would genuinely love to hear from anyone else who’s made films under ridiculous limitations because honestly I think constraints can weirdly become the style itself.

Update: Our Finnish Lovecraftian film now has an official trailer

A while ago I posted here about our Finnish indie Lovecraftian film Majakka, asking for help and support from the horror community.

Since then, the project has continued to grow. We have shot more material, built sets, gathered an amazing cast and crew, and pushed this strange little lighthouse nightmare further than we first thought possible.

Now we finally have a new official trailer to share.

Majakka is a dark, atmospheric psychological horror film set in the early 1900s. It follows a man drawn toward a mysterious lighthouse, obsession, old rituals, and something far beyond human understanding.

The film is still in production. Filming continues this year, and the project will carry on into next year as we work toward completing it properly. It is a very ambitious indie project for us, but everyone involved has given so much time, talent and passion to bring this world to life.

To everyone who supported, shared or commented on the earlier post: thank you. It genuinely helped us keep going.

The light is calling.

A short documentary about Bright English Medium School in Loliondo, Tanzania and how Juliana built it over 15 years

I am from India. I spent time in Loliondo, December last year, on a clean water project at Bright English Medium School and ended up making a 37 minute film about the school's founder, Juliana.

For anyone here who does not know the school, it is in northern Tanzania, in the Maasai community of Loliondo. Juliana started it 15 years ago in a rented house with a small group of children. The school now has over 500 students. She has done all of this with very little outside help and a lot of stubbornness.

I am not Tanzanian and I know this is a story that belongs to your country, not mine. I just had the privilege of being there long enough to film it. If anyone here is from Loliondo or has any connection to BEMS, I would love to hear from you. If anything in the film feels off, please tell me.

The film is in English and Swahili with subtitles in English. Free on YouTube. Phase 1 of the water project on school grounds is complete.

Help Bring My Senior Student Film To Life

Everyone remembers what it felt like to stay somewhere a little too late and suddenly realize you might not be alone...

Logline
"An apprehensive college student working a night shift at the library asks her supernatural-obsessed classmate to dispel an entity before closing."

The film blends suspense, folklore, and character driven storytelling. If you enjoy similar TV/film like Stranger Things, Gravity Falls, The X Files, or IT, then you would also love Ex Libris.

Please consider my team to make this project a reality!❤️
