Is Janitor AI still the best Character AI alternative?

I see Janitor AI recommended almost every time someone asks for a Character AI replacement.

But is it actually still the best option, or is it just the default answer now?

For people who use it regularly:

Is Janitor better for RP than Character AI?

Does the memory hold up in long chats?

Is the free/default experience good enough?

Or are Chub, SpicyChat, CrushOn, SillyTavern, etc. better now?

Curious what people honestly think in 2026.

Faceclaims?

Hi! I remember seeing some bots on janitor that are pre-generated images that the creator gives out for free usage. I cannot for the life of me find them on the site though- does anyone know what they're tagged as? Or how to find them?

I'm terrible at midjourney and i just want some for private bots T_T

Hsr players!!!

Uhm. I made an hsr bot with like 3 lorebooks. (Pencony that even contains the events of 3.8, Amphoreus, and a general one containing all locations, and characters up to Evanscia) I am still planning on adding Xhianzou, Jarilo, and planarcadia!! (when it concludes cuz I aint even play it yet.) So, I was hoping the hsr players could like, test the bot and give me feedback. (Ignore the name. It’s not really an RPG)

remove if not allowed!

(I’ve never posted on here before so I wasn’t sure what flair this goes under, remove if not allowed :D) basically this morning I woke up and suddenly half of the bots sentences are constantly cutting off. When I go to ‘edit’ the rest of the sentence is there in the box but not on the actual chat. Anyway to fix this?

How to I get these to work again?

Credit to whoever’s bot this is that I’m using as reference, but I used to be able to opening these and read them when I first got the app on my phone. Idk what setting I changed or what but now when I tap of them they do nothing? What did I do wrong or is this just the app being bad? And save confusion I mean the red and green bordered boxes :3

The AI said something so unexpectedly deep that I had to close the app and go for a walk

Not even joking. I was doing a casual roleplay session, testing a character I'd been building for a while.

I wrote a pretty throwaway line about the character feeling like they don't fit anywhere.

The AI responded with something like: "Maybe belonging isn't about finding the right place. Maybe it's about becoming someone the right place would want."

I stared at that for a solid 30 seconds.

I built the character. I set the context. But I genuinely didn't see that coming.

Has anyone else had a moment where the AI said something that stopped you mid-session? Drop it below. I want to see how weird this gets.

recommendations on how to adjust jllm for that that 'snappier' c.ai style?

i like long messages, i really do, but i feel like the longer the message the less in-character dialogue you get

here is a comparison. same bot i created, same message history (yes i imported my c.ai chat MANUALLY to j.ai to do a test)

even with tokens limited, you can see the model wants to write more (and i trained it with shorter messages! many, many of them) and IDK, it's overall more boring?

should i adjust the temperature or prompts? also, no, cant use proxies...
