Would Sri Lankans actually use a community-based ride-sharing platform?

After dealing with daily traffic, expensive travel costs, and seeing so many empty seats on the road, I started building a Sri Lankan ride-sharing/carpooling platform.

The idea is simple:
Drivers already travelling the same route can share empty seats with passengers heading the same way and split travel costs.

Unlike Uber/PickMe style ride-hailing, the focus here is more on cost-sharing between regular commuters rather than drivers trying to earn a full-time income from trips. Ideally, that should naturally make rides more affordable over time since passengers are mainly contributing toward fuel and travel costs.

It’s currently in active beta/testing, but users can already:

  • post rides
  • find/book rides
  • approve booking requests
  • rate each other after rides

Would genuinely love feedback on whether this is something Sri Lankans would actually use regularly.

A Blind Elderly Woman Is Living Under Katugasthota Bridge After Losing Everything in the Floods — Can We Help Her?

https://reddit.com/link/1thiddx/video/8kj1wvbwi22h1/player

Today I met this blind elderly woman living under the Katugasthota bridge. She lost her home, her belongings, and the little stability she had after the floods. Now she sleeps under a bridge through rain and cold, not even knowing if she is truly safe at night.

What hurt me the most was not just her situation — it was how invisible she has become to the world around her.

She told me she only wanted some clothes. I wish I could have done much more, but I am also struggling financially at the moment. Still, I cannot walk away and pretend this is normal. No human being deserves to live like this. Especially not an elderly blind woman abandoned by circumstance.

Her relatives are also living in poverty and are unable to support her. That is why I’m asking if we, as a community, can come together and help her find safety, shelter, and dignity again. Even something small can change her life right now.

If you are willing to help in any way — clothes, food, temporary shelter, contacts, donations, or support — please send me a message. I will create a WhatsApp group so we can organize properly and transparently.

Also, if anyone knows government authorities, charities, social workers, temples, churches, organizations, or individuals who may be able to help, please comment or message me.

For anyone asking about the video conversation (if you do not understand Sinhala): I was asking her whether she had any preference for a location to stay or live. She said she has no preference. I also told her to please take care of herself until I return with some support today or tomorrow.

A society is judged by how it treats the people who can no longer fight for themselves. Let’s not leave her under that bridge.

Are there any night clubs in Kandy?

I've seen people say Kandy dies after 7pm. Is that true? If so, what do you guys do to have fun?
