How to train for endurance on keto?

I am a beginner when it comes to ketosis and the keto lifestyle.
I am wanting to know because I have recently gotten into keto and have began swimming and hiking. What advice can you give for someone wanting to train long term for endurance ?
SIS running gel did nothing
I am KETO & IF and been running for about a year, run fasted and taken keto ‘friendly’ food with if I felt I may need it. Ran my first 10km trail race this morning and was worried about fuelling so took a SiS energy gel with me (never had one before) Took it around 6.5km because I felt I was lagging - waited about 20 minutes expecting this massive surge of energy only to feel nothing at all except feeling sickly an hour or 2 afterwards. Not sure what the hype is around them. Will stick to my methods which suit me better.
Drinking electrolytes on long runs
After how many kms should you drink electrolytes on keto. I drank after 4k and choked today. Last I drank after 7k was fine but kind of confused when to drink. Ideally I wish I can sustain myself without drinking till 10k
27F 5’5 65 kg | Advice needed
Sorry, first post here so please be gentle haha. I’ve been on and off keto (but mostly keto), but for the past month I’ve been steady on it. Doing keto alone during the pandemic, I’ve lost weight (65 to 55 kg), plateau at 55, only to gain back the weight again, surprisingly after incorporating running 5-8 km daily for an hour.
My usual daily meal looks like:
Breakfast: 2 slices of almond bread with keto peanut butter, coffee (no sugar), 3-4 eggs, a serving of canned meat/fish
Lunch and Dinner: Protein (like a serving of beef/seafood/porkchop), 2 slices of almond bread, diet soda
Question is, for those of you doing keto and running for endurance, and are also trying to keep the weight off without going hungry, what is your advice for me? My post gets deleted with the pic but I’ve basically plateau at skinny-fat :(
TIA!
Training for my first in Jan 2027 on keyo
Hi everyone, I have bipolar disorder and I have seen tremendous results from keto diet. It has almost put me in remission since two years. I did half marathon keto and the only time I had carbs was during the race which was two dates and two snickers bars. I can't afford to be off ketosis but at the same time my training includes long 15k runs. Everyone so far has suggested that I will injure myself on keto and can't run a marathon. My question is that what's the maximum distance I can cover without carbs.
PS: It's my dream to run a marathon 🥹
Cycling 350 miles (Munich to Venice) while not fat-adapted yet. Should I pause keto or use carbs on the bike?
Hi everyone! I'm so glad I found this sub. I've been searching the internet all week, but I can't really find a conclusive answer to my situation anywhere. I hope you guys can help me out!
I've been doing keto for (only) 24 days. At this point, I'm already experiencing loads of benefits (weight loss, more energy, less hunger), but I know I'm not fat-adapted yet. However, in two days time, I'm going on a bike trip: I'm cycling from Munich to Venice, which is about 570 km and 5,000 m of elevation (350 miles and 16,400 feet).
Just to be clear: I already cycle a lot and I'm definitely fit enough to do a trip like this, I'm just not used to doing it on keto. Because I was a bit worried about this combination, I've been training extra over the past two weeks to see how my body reacts. That's when I noticed my heart rate is so much higher than it used to be off keto. I know it's important to stay in zone 2 with my heart rate, but I'm afraid that's going to be quite difficult. It's going to be very warm, I'll be climbing a lot more elevation than I'm used to (I'm from a relatively flat country), and I'm not fat-adapted yet.
My questions are:
- Should I pause my keto diet for the 8 days I'm cycling?
- Or should I eat carbs just during the cycling, but keep following the keto diet while off the bike?
- If I stop completely, will this mean I have to start all over again from scratch after the bike trip?
- If I only eat carbs during the exercise, will this break my ketosis completely?
For context: I'm a 27 year old woman (not sure if that matters) and I was already following the keto diet for a good week when my partner and I decided to do this bike trip. Maybe I should've paused then and resumed after the trip.
Any advice or help is massively appreciated! Thanks!
