Maspeth Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table

I started the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual after I started putting stuff outside that my family did not want anymore and we couldn't sell on the Marketplace. I noticed the items would disappear and my neighbors would bring items to replace them. My friend who helps shut ins in Glendale brings over whatever food she has left and leaves that on the table for people to take who visit my mutual aid table.

Thursday August 6th, I received 6 deliveries of donations (clothes, food, toys, housewares, books, DVDs). By Saturday August 8th the table is empty.

Items that are in high demand:

FOOD FOR PEOPLE OR PETS

CLOTHES

TOILETRIES

SCHOOL SUPPLIES

DIAPERS FOR BABIES & ADULTS

TOYS

BACK PACKS, LUNCH BOXES & POCKET BOOKS

Books really don't go on my table, so when I get a donation of them I wait a few days then I bring them down to the Little Free Library in PS 153's school yard.

Donations can be dropped off, and you can take what you need 24 hours a day & 7 days a week:

5938 60TH ROAD, MASPETH

Donations can be dropped off at certain businesses during business hours. Just label them Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table.

ASSEMBLYMAN STEVEN RAGA'S OFFICE, 60-14 QUEENS BLVD., CELLAR, WOODSIDE

COOK'S ARTS & CRAFTS SHOPPE, 80-09 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

SCHWILLE-D'ANGELO FUNERAL HOME, 66-32 MYRTLE AVE., GLENDALE

STATE SENATOR JOSEPH ADDABBO'S OFFICE, 66-85 73RD PLACE, MIDDLE VILLAGE

HARISCH STUDIOS, 57-44 MYRTLE AVE., 2ND FLOOR, RIDGEWOOD

For people who cannot donate in person I created an Amazon Wishlist:

https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/JY7U8QQZ8BBU?REF\_=wl\_share

Thank you for all donations. And if you are near the Maspeth/Ridgewood border and are in need please check out table and take what you need. No questions asked. Please spread the word. Thanks.

Where do you go when you’re sad?

I usually take a walk through Forest Park but I could use some new ideas. I’ve been dealing with a lot of rejection lately. Thanks in advance.

Kew Gardens LGBTQ

Hi there, currently living in Astoria and thinking about buying a place in KG. I know the vibe of the two neighborhoods are wildly different, but I've accepted that I can't afford Astoria anymore and am OK with a slower lifestyle. My only corner is about the acceptance of a gay couple in the neighborhood. Anyone have any thoughts?

Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church / school reviews?

Hi all, I have found it an odd struggle to find any kind of reviews or discussion about Our Lady Queen of Martyrs Church school, specifically for pre-K but I actually am not able to find anything besides two extremely old reviews on yelp one of which is not promising at all.

In addition, the school sent out an email to prospective parents bringing their students in for class mentioning cryptic things like “our experience last year was not something that we where proud of and are working our best to correct” type of thing.

To add to my concern, somebody posted on a sub, Reddit saying that they heard adult male screams coming from the basement of the church and other people commented that the church houses mentally disabled people which is not something that was ever mentioned to us by the school staff and is definitely concerning to facilitate people with mental health issues alongside children. If this is true, of course.

Does anyone have a firsthand experience with this church

I would really appreciate your feedback as a parent if your child attends the school or as someone who may attend the church in general. Really any feedback and reviews regarding the church would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Community Recycling Event Sun 8/16 @FHHS

LES Ecology Center is hosting another community recycling event this Sunday at Forest Hills HS, 10am-2pm.

Convenient, responsible way to dispose of materials not collected by Dept of Sanitation.

I participated last year and was able to drop off old electronics as well as random textles (including scraps- clean) that had been hanging around for years.

If you are going to have gay sex in Forest Park, can you please pick up your used toilet paper and condoms?

Ok look. I know this post probably won’t change anything lol, but even if it gets through to one litterbug, then it would be worth it. Because I have never seen the level of litter associated with public fornication that I have seen in Forest Park - ever. Not in any other park in NYC, or in the country, for that matter.

I am as pro-LGBTQ as they come. I fully recognize that a lot of what’s going on in Forest Park is guys on the DL leading a double life, and SWers who are just trying to get by. I am empathetic to that. But can you please just bring a small trash bag and clean up your mess?

And nobody should be littering anything in our green spaces. People who chuck bottles and weed containers are no better. I do not mean to single out any one community. But I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the park without having to step over used condoms, wrappers, and piles of soiled toilet paper. Multiple times, every time. And like syringes, it’s a dangerous biohazard for anyone who eventually has to pick it up.

Even if one person reading this says “You know what. I have gay sex in Forest Park all the time and I always litter. Maybe I’ll stop doing that.” … well, that would be very nice. So if you are that person deciding to make that change, I think I speak for everyone in saying the whole neighborhood thanks you.

Tell me about raising kids in KG/FH

Husband and I are Queens natives looking to come back to the area now with elementary school aged kids. Tell me about the pros and cons of living in KG/FH - we looked ages ago but were disappointed at the homes on the market then so moved further east but we miss the diversity and accessibility of Queens. Would also be dope just to raise little NY’ers like we were :)

How many delis do we need?

I love my hood. I've been here since 2018. But I really wish we had better food options. We have a gazillion delis now, and the one on Lefferts is really nice, but I wish we had more sit down restaurants. I'm sorry that C Lounge closed down and even though Simply Fried was mostly take out, it was better quality than most fast food places. That's my only gripe I have about Kew. :)

Queens Ketamine Treatment For Major Depression

I am Dr. Max Lazarus, board-certified emergency medicine physician and medical director of Queens Ketamine Treatment Center in Forest Hills. We are the premiere Ketamine treatment center in the borough of Queens. Spravato is meaningfully different from most of what people picture when they hear the word "ketamine," and I think the group deserves an honest, evidence-based explanation from a local physician operating a ketamine clinic. We are open 7 days a week and accepting new patients.

What it is. Spravato is an FDA-approved prescription nasal spray (active ingredient: esketamine). It was approved in March 2019 specifically for adults with treatment-resistant depression — depression that has not improved after two or more trials of standard antidepressants. It is manufactured by Janssen / Johnson & Johnson and fully regulated by the FDA.

Why it is different from what people often picture. Federal law requires Spravato to be administered under a strict safety program called the REMS Program. In practice, that means:

Patients self-administer the nasal spray only at a certified medical office — never at home. · A board-certified physician and registered nurse are physically present in the room during every administration. · Every patient is monitored for a minimum of two hours after each dose, with continuous pulse oximetry and serial vital signs. · Patients are not permitted to drive themselves on a treatment day; safe transportation home is arranged before every visit.

This is a hospital-grade medication, given in a clinical setting, with a physician in the room, under federal safety regulations. It is one of the most carefully supervised outpatient treatments in medicine.

How it works. Standard antidepressants typically take six to eight weeks to begin working, and many patients do not respond to the first or second medication they try. For those patients, Spravato can produce measurable improvement within hours to days, often after the first treatment.

Who is a candidate. Adults (18+) with major depressive disorder who have tried at least two standard antidepressants without adequate response. Treatment is always coordinated with the patient's existing psychiatrist or primary care doctor. Patients with active psychosis, uncontrolled hypertension, certain heart conditions, or who are pregnant are not candidates.

Insurance. Most major commercial plans, as well as most Medicare and Medicaid plans, cover Spravato when clinical criteria are met. Coverage requires a prior authorization — we handle that paperwork. The manufacturer also offers a financial assistance program for patients who need it.

311, Vandalism, and Graffiti

Every time for the past few years that I go to Forest Park I have to walk past this abomination. This is the corner of 84th ave and 115th street. I'm usually in a hurry so I don't pay it much mind but today I had some time on my hands and decided to report it to 311..

The only problem is that this incredible web form (2nd pic) from 2007 does not recognize 84th ave or 115th street as valid streets. I've tried on both mobile and desktop to no avail. What's even worse is that I've successfully reported graffiti (the tag Cemo - fuck you for tagging parks) and saw it cleaned up in short order but these cross streets are immune because of a poorly designed system. It's pretty damn frustrating and I'm probably just going to buy some paint and do it myself in the next few days.

Any of you have experience with graffiti and 311 or whatever else? DIY?

P.S. Whoever is scrawling those hideous "river to the sea" messages really needs to work on their typography, -1/10.
