Where do you go when you’re sad?
I usually take a walk through Forest Park but I could use some new ideas. I’ve been dealing with a lot of rejection lately. Thanks in advance.

Every time for the past few years that I go to Forest Park I have to walk past this abomination. This is the corner of 84th ave and 115th street. I'm usually in a hurry so I don't pay it much mind but today I had some time on my hands and decided to report it to 311..
The only problem is that this incredible web form (2nd pic) from 2007 does not recognize 84th ave or 115th street as valid streets. I've tried on both mobile and desktop to no avail. What's even worse is that I've successfully reported graffiti (the tag Cemo - fuck you for tagging parks) and saw it cleaned up in short order but these cross streets are immune because of a poorly designed system. It's pretty damn frustrating and I'm probably just going to buy some paint and do it myself in the next few days.
Any of you have experience with graffiti and 311 or whatever else? DIY?
P.S. Whoever is scrawling those hideous "river to the sea" messages really needs to work on their typography, -1/10.
The other day I was going through lower Manhattan and I saw an older lady, probably 60+, stabbing madly at some slaps and stickers with her fingernails. Just really going to town against this wall of random stickers.
Made me think of how these things come and go. Have you seen people taking stickers off public property or otherwise addressing this minor vandalism?
Ok look. I know this post probably won’t change anything lol, but even if it gets through to one litterbug, then it would be worth it. Because I have never seen the level of litter associated with public fornication that I have seen in Forest Park - ever. Not in any other park in NYC, or in the country, for that matter.
I am as pro-LGBTQ as they come. I fully recognize that a lot of what’s going on in Forest Park is guys on the DL leading a double life, and SWers who are just trying to get by. I am empathetic to that. But can you please just bring a small trash bag and clean up your mess?
And nobody should be littering anything in our green spaces. People who chuck bottles and weed containers are no better. I do not mean to single out any one community. But I don’t think I’ve ever gone to the park without having to step over used condoms, wrappers, and piles of soiled toilet paper. Multiple times, every time. And like syringes, it’s a dangerous biohazard for anyone who eventually has to pick it up.
Even if one person reading this says “You know what. I have gay sex in Forest Park all the time and I always litter. Maybe I’ll stop doing that.” … well, that would be very nice. So if you are that person deciding to make that change, I think I speak for everyone in saying the whole neighborhood thanks you.
Almost missed this post for the 1st but I remembered in the nick of time! Not very fun fact: the phrase comes from a device called a tally or a nick-stick that measured time - by cutting nicks into it - a couple hundred years ago. I should probably automate these threads, but for now it's just me, an actual fallible human being! I hope everyone had a nice July.

My kid is out of the house with his mom and I think I wanna get out and do something too but I don’t know what! Usually I’d be chain smoking joints and playing video games but I’ve been a little lonely and stir crazy lately. Any recs within the neighborhood?
Pending replies, I’ll probably go get some fruit tea from Mr. Wish and smoke and walk until I have a better idea. I’ll roll some extra if any internet neighbors want to join!
Holy hell it is hot, stay cool and hydrated fellow neighbors! Libraries are excellent cooling centers if you need to be out of the house.

Hey there, so I’ve basically been growing this on vibes and it seems like it’s going alright? It looks like it’s suffering a bit (a lot?) from my inconsistent watering and feeding. I’ve just been plucking off any leaves that look totally dead and now that it seems I’m getting close to harvest I’m not sure what to do. I’ve lurked long enough to get a sense of what my trichomes should look like (2 weeks bro) but I’m unsure of what I should be doing with a lot of these half burnt fan leaves and sugar leaves and stuff. There’s also some new growth near the bottom of the plant and I have no idea wtf that’s about
Soil is 50/50 coco and random potting soil. Seeds are from tiger autoflowers on strainly. Mostly following growweedeasy as a guide as well as posts on here. Thanks in advance - a guy wanting to get high on his own supply instead of sketchy plugs
Between the discount store and pharmacy, where I think a barber used to be. I mean, that’s fine and all I guess. Better than another smoke shop or hair salon. I wouldn’t mind having an ‘elevated’ new PCP but I don’t think I’m really part of their target demographic.
I’ve had a lot of close calls where the birds are like inches from my head but I’ve never actually been hit. Got me wondering if there’s an awkward pigeon out there that accidentally bumped into someone.
It’s all I can think about for some reason. Have you been hit by a bird? I want to know!
TL;DR: Dishwasher has a drainage issue. Very likely the hoses/tubing are clogged or blocked. Tried to fix it myself but lack the tools and expertise, could use the contact info of a reliable plumber or handyman in the area who can take a look.
So our dishwasher stopped draining properly. The cycle runs just fine but when it finishes, there is a full pool of water at the bottom of the dishwasher. I watched a few youtube videos, rolled up my sleeves, and got to work - emptied the standing water manually, checked for any debris clogging the drainage channels, the impeller and other doodads all seemed to be in order. Led me to believe that there was a blockage in the drainage hose/pipe/tube. The way the hose is routed from the dishwasher to the sink makes it quite difficult to access and I didn't feel confident that I could take everything apart and put it back together in working order.
We rent, so we contacted our landlord and implored him to send a plumber or somebody to look at the drain system. Against all better judgment (and my repeated requests for a plumber), our landlord simply decided to replace the dishwashing machine. Two weeks and a new dishwasher later, we run into the same exact problem of standing water after the first cycle we run. Well, at least we know for certain it's not the machine that's fucking up.
Even with the new evidence of the issue that needs fixing our landlord is dragging his feet and I figure it's just something we need to take care of ourselves. So before I turn to google to find a repairman or try to fix it myself I wanted to see if anyone in the neighborhood could recommend someone. Thanks in advance.
Summer is coming and the leaf blowers are back, please enjoy the omnipresent farting nose of their motors. Local elections and plenty of events in the future.

Curious to know if anyone has attended the events before and how it is? Being so close to a library makes it difficult to be a regular patron
If you're looking to connect more with the community, the natural world, or both, here's a great way to begin this weekend. In my experience, this kind of work can feel incredibly meaningful in a time when it can be hard to know how to meaningfully contribute.
From the Natural Areas Conservancy, which is partnering with NYC Parks:
We need your help planting 500 trees in Forest Park! Join the NAC on two upcoming volunteer days to help make Forest Park greener!
No experience needed—we will demonstrate site-prep, planting, and provide gloves.
We need volunteers for both days:
Friday, May 15: Planting-Site Prep Day from 9 a.m to 4 p.m.
Saturday, May 16: Tree Planting Day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
I'll be there - hope to see you!
Birds and blossoms everywhere, one of the most colorful times of the year here.
