Found mice, now what? (Household with kids)

Hey everyone, I need some advice.

I've just found a mouse in our home while I was vacuuming. Saw the droppings which I vacuumed (google says I shouldn't have done this) and then I saw the mouse.

It escaped through a hole and I'm sure there are more holes around the house which I haven't located. Covering them up with duct tape as a very temporary solution before I try and get some mesh.

However, my main concern is, I live my kids and mother in law are in the house too. I'm especially worried that they might get sick from this as I know mouse droppings can be very harmful. They're also pretty scared so I want to try and get some traps ASAP to help reassure them.

What should I do, any advice from people who've gotten out of this situaton?

Thank you for any advice! I'm at my wits end.

-A concerned parent

Day 2: No fresh/frozen food at Trader Joe's

Mrs Leapair was just over there and they had a sign on the door telling everyone the fridges/freezers are still out. Watch this space.

Anyone moved from Jersey City to Forest Hills?

Been hearing good things about Forest Hills but hard to make a move bc Jersey City is great.

Main reasons for consideration: 1)much better commute 2)good schools

Major holdbacks: 1)city tax!!! 2)streets are narrow and busy without Manhattan perks (food and drinks)

Currently renting but open to buying. Strictly from buying perspective, Forest Hills makes more sense bc of the school

Prices at the Natural

I have happily shopped here for many years and always felt that the quality of the produce was worth their higher prices.

However, yesterday, I was shocked by prices of some items that I had been buying there for years. Nectarines were $5.99/lb.— last year, I paid half that. A wedge of watermelon was $10 vs. last year’s price of $4-5 for a similar sized piece.

I know prices are going up everywhere but this is outrageous. Anyone else have a similar experience?

Two Park City Estates apartments for sale by owner — open houses this weekend!

Hi neighbors! 👋 I have two apartments up for sale in Park City Estates, Rego Park, and I’m selling without an agent, so trying to get as much direct exposure as possible.

🛏🛏🛏 🚿🛁 3-Bedroom at 61-35 98th St · Listed at $599,000
https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/61-35-98th-St-1J-Rego-Park-NY-11374/122588195_zpid/?view=public

Open houses this Saturday & Sunday (7/4 & 7/5) — timings in the listings. If they’re still available, I’ll also host open houses on 7/11 & 7/12. We need to move by end of summer for a new job so both are priced to sell quickly.

Happy to work with (buyer commission offered) or without an agent. If you or anyone you know is interested, reach out to me directly at 917-232-2698 rather than through the website — happy to answer any questions! 😊

What's the deal with that Nine Thai restaurant on QB?

This place (just a few doors down from Portofino) has a pretty freaky vibe. Most of the time the gates are half-way down (like this pic). Inside is always dark, with stacks of boxes and supplies everywhere. You never see anyone in there (neither customers nor workers). Given the number of restaurants that have gone out of business on QB (Queens Bully, Matiz, Guantamera), I don't know how this joint is still around. Reviews on Yelp and Google are awful. Their website says they are open from 8AM to 1:30AM. Do enough people order Thai first thing in the morning to make it a viable business model to open at 8AM?

It's hard to believe this is a functioning business. But, somehow they outlasted others that at least appeared to be far more successful.

Do the people complaining about Citi Bikes, street closures, and loud concerts realize that we live in NYC - not Long Island or Florida?

Forest Hills is part of NYC. NYC things happen here. It’s one thing when a poor neighborhood complains about rich people moving in and driving up the prices, but a half-suburban neighborhood complaining about things becoming more urban just feels silly within the 5 boroughs.

If you can afford to live in a house with a parking spot in Forest Hills, then you can probably afford that move to Long Island or Florida that you keep talking about. You will probably like it better than living in NYC, which is where Forest Hills is.

No fresh/frozen food at Trader Joe’s (Yellowstone)

It looks like the power went out during the night and they’re emptying all the fridges and freezers and throwing all the food away.

Roach infestation!!

Over the last week I’ve noticed a SIGNIFICANT amount of roaches in my apt, the laundry room, the trash room. I was just opening the door to the garbage room and one actually fell from the top of the door as some on the ground scattered away. I understand this is common in buildings and a major contributor is the current temperature. But omg this is so disturbing. The monthly building exterminator just sprays the common areas and it doesn’t do much. I just used combat and advion gel but if anyone has any hacks or other products that actually work pleaseee share.

Deep Cleaning in Forest Hills

I just moved into a new apartment and I should have done it while empty but in desperate need of a deep cleaning. Apartment was left empty for months and the previous owner had cats so there is dust and hair everywhere. Any good and affordable recommendations for a deep cleaner?

Thank you!

When is the new Lillian's Pizza place going to open?

No indication of a date on socials, according to my wife.

Drove past the other day and they had benches outside, but shutters down.

Maybe the owners are on their sub?

We're hungry for good walkable pizza!

Parking is a mess!

Been here for 6 years and this is the worst I've seen in terms of parking. They keep taking away spots. First it was Queens Blvd. They removed the spots for bike lanes. Now it's the bikes. Next, new buildings will bring many new tenants. Parking lots are close to $400 a month. I live in a Thursday/Friday zone. Has anyone had better luck?
