Co-op Reno estimates?

Hi,
I just passed my board interview for one of the Forest Hills presidential co-ops on 108th st. My lawyer is working on a closing date, but we're aiming for end of October. I think after I submit the renovation paperwork to the board and get approval, I’m hoping renovations can start around end of November.

Assuming there are no surprise problems and you’re working in ideal conditions, what is the minimum cost to renovate a 1400 sq 3 bed, 2 bath co-op renovation using mid-price range materials/supplies from the information below? Does anyone know any contractors that are familiar with working in these co-ops in Forest Hills?

-       Removing carpets and replacing the floors with laminate/LVP or engineered hardwood - I was told the floor was leveled.  I'm on the fence on getting engineered hardwood because eventually the floor has to be covered in 80% carpet or rug so that's why I'm leaning towards laminate or LVP, but unsure what to choose. Maybe one type of flooring is better on concrete floors than another? Note: all the walls and floors are concrete.
-       Restore the wall between the kitchen (7x12) and dining room (9x12) which will create that "3rd bedroom"
-       Renovate the kitchen (7x12) and 2 full bathroom (5x7) – plumbing configuration does not need to change; all fixtures are on one wall in both bathrooms. I don't need intricate tiling or glass shower doors; I just want big tiles and will need help in designing an easy to clean bathroom)
-       Paint, replace light fixtures and kitchen appliances

Supporting Local - Colombiche

Now THIS is what the neighborhood needed. Great food, good people - portions are huge. Coffee is solid too.

I went for brunch but a lot of patrons were ordering the lunch special and that looked great.. might do that next time.

The place was packed around 12pm Saturday, so expect a wait , but it cleared up around 1pm.

Park Slope grocery price check, from this week's store circulars (Lidl, Whole Foods, C-Town, Foodtown, Stop & Shop)

Disclosure first: I built the free site linked at the end, no signup and no ads, and this post is mostly data.

Park Slope is the one neighborhood where a lot of people do their real shopping at the Food Coop, so a circular roundup feels a little beside the point. But if you are not doing a Coop shift this week, or you just want to know where the regular supermarkets are cheap right now, I read every Park Slope store's weekly ad each morning and this is what they are leading with.

A timing note: the C-Town, Foodtown, and Stop & Shop ads below run through tonight (Thursday 7/16) and flip to a new week tomorrow, while the Lidl and Whole Foods ads are the current 7/15 to 7/21 week.

Lidl (120 5th Ave), week of 7/15 to 7/21:

  • Tomatoes on the vine, $1.49
  • Bellarom ground coffee, $4.79

Whole Foods (214 3rd St), week of 7/15 to 7/21 (Prime price in parentheses):

  • Strawberries, 16 oz, 2 for $7.78 ($7 for 2 with Prime)
  • Yellow peaches, $2.77/lb ($2.49/lb with Prime)
  • Large Hass avocados, 2 for $5.56 ($5 for 2 with Prime)

A couple of head to head notes: on tomatoes on the vine, Lidl ($1.49, and good through next Monday) beats Stop & Shop ($1.88). On red seedless grapes, Stop & Shop ($2.69) beats C-Town ($3.99), but both of those ads end tonight.

Considering a move to forest hills

I’m a single woman in her late 20s looking for affordable places to live in NY and keep coming across Forest Hills as an option. I’m apprehensive as it’s a little isolated from where most of my friends live, but I really like the commuting options to Manhattan and the space I can get. I’m wondering what the general vibe is? Are there other people in their late 20s/early 30s living in the area? Is the bar scene fun on the weekends (even when there are no concerts going on)?

Would appreciate any advice or other input as well, thanks!

Thai Nine this morning

Walking by at 10:00 am. Gate was a quarter down man inside sweeping stuff onto sidewalk. Just as we walked by with another person, we saw a live cockroach being swept away. Very strange place.

Saw it on Reddit, showed up in Kew Gardens, thanks for sharing local events!

Saw the Kew Gardens Flea & Craft Market posted here this morning and decided to check it out. Really glad I did! It’s my first time visiting the parking lot by the Kew Gardens LIRR, and there were some lovely handmade crafts and a cat rescue with cats available for adoption or fostering.

Picked up a handmade pink-and-white flower piece for my girlfriend ($25) and a little Tree of Life ($10). Also spoke with the rescue volunteers and signed up to explore possibly fostering a cat. Still something to think through, but I’m glad I made those connections.

I’ve now settled in outside Austin Ale House, waiting for my fish and chips. Really nice vibe out here—possibly a spot for our next Forest Hills meetup? Would love to hear what people think.

Mostly, just wanted to thank the person who posted the market and everyone who shares neighborhood events here. Sometimes this sub is the only place I hear about these things, and I find local information much easier to spot here than in my Facebook or Instagram feeds.
Your post got at least one neighbor out to support some vendors, meet rescue volunteers, and discover a new spot. Please keep sharing! 🐾

DOT Roadwork After Hours Complaint?

Anyone know how to file a noise complaint for DOT roadwork taking place after hours? Non- emergency work- started weeks ago. Yellowstone, North side for reference. Banging and yelling started 6:50 this morning, now incessant truck backup alerts.

Checked 311 rabbit hole- no luck.
