How to meet single guys in the Kootenays w/o dating apps. Help a gal out.

How to meet single guys in the Kootenays w/o dating apps. Help a gal out.

Hey Reddit! Curious, aside from the basic recommendations like pub, bar, gym, coffee shop...is there some secret honey pot of single guys in the Kootenays that don't smoke cigarettes, don't drink alcohol but still like to have fun, get outdoors and experience new things? I wonder if in my late 40s maybe that's it for me, I've had my fun? LOL I can't tell if guys are single here at first glance a lot of them don't wear wedding rings due to working with their hands/machines etc. I'm healthy, fit, easy on the eye and love to cook, eat food and be around fresh water, rivers, mountains, nature. Got any ideas? How do I meet a single logger ...? Serious question. I don't do dating apps. Too many liars, fakes and time wasters.

Solo road trip

Planning a short solo car-camping/hiking loop through the West Kootenays and would love a sanity check from people who know the area.
Main priorities: big mountain views, blue alpine lakes, granite peaks/ridgelines, waterfalls, swimming spots, and mostly primitive/free camping. I’m comfortable with 6–10 mile hikes and 2,000–3,000+ ft of gain, and I’m driving a normal AWD crossover, not a 4x4.

Rough plan:
Day 1: Spokane area → Nelson/Kokanee
Kokanee Canyon if time
Camp near lower Kokanee Glacier Road

Day 2: Kokanee Glacier
Gibson Lake → Kokanee → Keen/Garland/Kaslo Lakes
Fletcher Falls if time
Kaslo
Mount Buchanan around sunset
Camp near Buchanan / Blue Ridge

Day 3: Lyle Lakes → New Denver/Slocan
Lyle Lakes
Possible add-ons: Retallack cedars, Sandon, Galena cable car, Wilson Creek Falls
Slocan Lake / New Denver
Camp near Little Slocan

Day 4: Gwillim Lakes
Gwillim Lakes
Then toward Nakusp / Upper Arrow Lake
Halfway Hot Springs is optional and may get cut

Final day: Drive back south, no major hike planned

Main questions:
- Is this realistic, or am I underestimating the FSR driving/access time?

- Any road conditions or trailhead approaches here that are a bad idea in a normal AWD crossover?
Best areas for legal primitive/free camping along this route?

- Is Gwillim worth the extra driving, or would you spend that time elsewhere?

- Anything on this list you’d cut?

- Any must-see lakes, viewpoints, waterfalls, or short hikes I’m somehow missing?

- If I start running behind, I’m currently thinking I’d cut Galena, Sandon, Retallack, Wilson Creek Falls, and possibly Halfway Hot Springs before cutting the main alpine hikes.

Anyone on here move from Cranbrook area to Kamloops?

Just wondering if anyone has lived in both places?

I have a few questions,

Is the climate very similar? Same summer weather? I’m guessing Cranbrook has colder winters? Just curious how big of difference.

Cost of living day to day comparison including groceries?

Outside recreation opportunities?
Boating/swimming
Mountain sledding
Beaches
Hunting

Best place to raise young kids?

Thanks!

Deer Park to Fauquier?

Hello, apologies if I'm asking in the wrong place but Nelson was the closest regional subreddit I could find. If there is a better place to ask please direct me there and I would be very grateful.

All that said, I'm planning a trip from the mouth of the Columbia all the way to the headwaters potentially at the end of the month and I want to stay as close to the river as possible. The biggest departure I can see is from Castlegar to Nakusp. I'd like to find a way between Deer Park to Fauquier and I see there are a lot of dirt/gravel roads up in there.

Google gave me a particularly low-res option that has me turning west at Passmore and ending up near Taite Creek Recreation Site. That's workable but I'd like a local option if that is a bad idea and if there might be a better route. My rig and I are fully off road capable but it's hard to tell if that is softroading, offroading or turnbacking. Also I don't know if those roads might be closed due to fire risk. Any insight from folks who have been up there recently would be very much appreciated. Thank you!

Thank you firefighters.

Canada has mobilized interprovincial and international firefighters, including hundreds from Alberta, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S. military, to combat severe 2026 out-of-control wildfires, primarily supporting strained crews in British Columbia and Ontario.

Hello everyone, I was wondering if anyone has moved to the east koots from the northern Alberta/BC areas like Grande Prairie or Dawson/FSJ

We are a young family and I have a job offer in the area. Long story short we have been wanting to leave the north for awhile due to the miserable winters and very short summers.

I was wondering if anyone has some insight on how big of climate upgrade it is in winters and summers?

The lifestyle upgrade and recreation looks amazing in the area. We have visited a few times.

We love heat and boating days and mountain sled a lot

Yes I am aware of the issues that cranbrook has but I don’t think those issues are avoidable anywhere in BC now

Thanks!

Busking in Crawford Bay/Kootenay Bay/Balfour/Nelson

Hi folks, I am a semi-wandering bagpiper looking for busking spots next week in BC - I've done a tiny bit of research (enough to discover I'll need a permit for downtown Nelson, no problem, happy to apply) but I'm hoping folks in the area would know where a busker would do well?

I play both the Great Highland bagpipes (the "usual variety) as well as the Scottish smallpipes, the quieter and warmer version.

My family has a cabin in Crawford Bay and I really want to spend a week out there, but gas prices are... cray cray.

Much love! 😄

Hiking Partners - Sinclair Creek

Hi everyone,

My brother and I are heading out to Radium this week for some hiking. We were interested in hiking the Sinclair Creek Trail, but Park Canada requires a party of four at a minimum. I was wondering if anyone here was also interested in hiking the trail, or if there are any recommendations for finding +2.

Thanks!

Anyone in the kootenays need some friends to hang out with and smoke some herb and chill? If so let me know. New to town and looking for some association.

Would you recommend avoiding Invermere this weekend with a 2 year old?

Hi! We live in AB but have a place in Invermere and we're thinking of taking our 2 year old this weekend. I'm concerned about the smoke levels for our 2 year old. Wondering if we should cancel our travel plans?
