Hi,
we’re four guys, and we’ve put together Westminster’s restaurant scene in an app called Vota. The concept is simple: you see two places side by side (for example Famille vs. Kachina Southwestern Grill), you choose the place you’d rather go to, and the ranking updates instantly. The more people vote, the more accurate the list gets over time. There are still a few duplicates here and there, but I’m continuously cleaning up the data.

Here’s the iPhone version, with categories that actually fit Westminster’s food scene:
https://apps.apple.com/app/vota-restaurant-ratings/id6744969212

And here’s the Android version (finally live):
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.vota.app

P.S. I’m not from Westminster (I live in Gothenburg). I’m not collecting data, not selling anything, and the app does not use AI-generated content. I’m posting in a few different subreddits because we now support more regions, and I genuinely want honest feedback from people who actually know the area.

I am willing to study in Sweden

I am willing to study in Sweden.

I am a 17-year-old high school student from a non-EU country. I lived in Sweden from the age of 9 to 12, so I integrated very well and speak Swedish fluently. Part of my family still lives in Sweden. Studying there seems like a really good option, even though the tuition fees are very high.

I am very interested in the engineering field and have excellent marks at school. Unfortunately, my upper secondary education does not allow me to meet the specific entry requirements such as Matematik 4, Fysik 2, and Kemi 1. Moreover, Swedish-taught programmes are practically unavailable for international students, because admission decisions come in mid-July, while a residence permit decision usually takes around 2–3 months.

There is one engineering programme for international students at Lund University, but I am still not eligible for it. There is also a Pathway programme at Jönköping University that may help me get eligibility, however, they do not guarantee that it will be accepted by other Swedish universities.

I feel lost and overwhelmed. If anyone knows any information that could help me, please comment or send me a DM. I am even ready to pay for proper guidance.

Thanks in advance.

Abroad student checking timetables

I am an American student studying abroad. I really want to take these classes during the second half of the semester but noticed 2 minor overlaps. Is it okay to have if it's marked lesson/lecture? Can I just choose which one to go to, or are those meetings mandatory?

When do first year students have to actually be in Stockholm?

Trying to figure out summer plans. Is Aug 10th required in person? Is it then possible to travel between Aug 11-24?

Master's in Computer Science vs Machine Learning — which keeps more doors open?

Hey everyone,

I’m trying to decide between doing a master’s in Computer Science or a master’s in Machine Learning, and I’d really appreciate some career-oriented advice.

For context, I’m based in Sweden, and my bachelor’s is in IT. My assumption is that this should cover the basic technical background expected for a CS/ML master’s, but I’m also curious how employers or admissions people tend to view an IT background compared with a traditional CS bachelor’s.

I’m genuinely interested in Machine Learning, and I could see myself going deeper into AI/ML. But my main concern is keeping as many doors open as possible. I’m not sure yet whether I want to stay in academia or pursue research long-term. Realistically, I want to work first and then decide later.

The Computer Science master sounds broader. For example, at KTH there are tracks like Data Science, and within that you can still choose a Machine Learning-oriented subtrack. So academically, it seems like I could still study a lot of ML while having “Computer Science” as the degree title.

My question is more about the career/resume signal:

Would a master’s in Computer Science look stronger or safer on a CV because it is broader and more widely recognized?

Or would a master’s in Machine Learning be better because it signals a clearer specialization in AI/ML?

I’m especially interested in perspectives from people working in Sweden/EU tech, ML engineering, data science, software engineering, or hiring/recruiting.

Basically:
If I’m interested in ML but want maximum flexibility, would you choose CS with ML/Data Science courses, or a dedicated ML master’s?

Thanks in advance.

Regarding residence permit

Hi everyone! I recently received my conditional offer from KTH

Could someone please guide me on the documents required for the Swedish residence permit process? I’m a bit confused about what exactly needs to be submitted.

As of now, I’ve paid the tuition fee and received the payment confirmation invoice.

I’d really appreciate any help or guidance because I’m honestly quite confused about the whole process

Courses and Credits

I'm an undergrad student currently going through universities to apply for my masters. I came across KTH, and as far as I've seen, it has really good reputation, and its courses look amazing, and is pretty much what I want to study/research about. However, I had a few questions on how Course selection and Credits totaling occurs.

I'm specifically looking at the Msc in CS section, and its courses. Credits should in theory total upto 120 by the end of the 2nd year if im not wrong(the page says each term is approx 30 credits).

As far as what the page says about mandatory course selections, there are 5 mandatory courses each 6 credits, 2 mandatory courses with 2 credits each. Then there's the thesis which is 30credits.

There are various tracks(for example, im more interested in the Parallel Computation track), where each subtrack has 3 mandatory courses 7.5credits each, and one course which can be chosen, so 7.5 credits for that. This is for both the years, year 1 and 2.

  1. Doesn't the total go up 124ish? Then why do they also show recommended/conditionally elective courses, if the total of all the mandatory courses already goes past the limit of 120 credits? (I don't mind learning more, but some colleges put a hard limit on the credit limit, so does KTH do something like that?)

  2. The page shows the same courses for the same subtrack in year 1 and year 2. How does that work? Do we select a different subtrack in each year? or is there something else that im missing?

  3. I've already studied some of the mandatory courses such as Computer Security, AI, Advanced Algorithms, etc in my Bachelors, and I have read about credit transfers/course replacements. How does that work in KTH? What other courses can/should I replace it with?

Thank you so much!

Follow-up after using work certificate as income proof for master’s residence permit

Hi! Does anybody know how the follow-up/monitoring works after a residence permit is granted if you used an employment certificate as proof of income? Like, do they ask for updated documents later on? is it usually a long or complicated process? thanks

KTH accomodation offer

So I have been accepeted in KTH for PhD, and I applied for reaidence permit on 30 april 2026, I am non EU citizen, I got mail on 4th may for digital passport verification but as I didnt had e-passport, I declined as per the instruction. Meanwhile I also applied for KTH accomodation and also got the offer (althought expensive one) but the offer start date is 1 July, and I am not sure if I will get residence permit before that!

Does anyone have recently applied for residence permit what and got approved in less than 2 month?

I am confused whether to accept the accomodation offer or not, i asked them to delay the date but they denied.

How to compensate for lower grades when applying to KTH?

Hi everyone,

I’m interested in applying to KTH for a master’s program (Data driven health or Medical engineering or Sports tech) and wanted to ask current students or successful applicants about what kind of profile is usually considered competitive.

Would a GPA around 3.4/4.0 be considered enough for admission, especially if there are a lot of B/C grades in some courses? My bachelors is on AI and Data Science.

For those who got admitted, what helped strengthen your application besides grades? For example:

  • Research experience
  • Projects/portfolio
  • Internships/work experience
  • Publications
  • Strong SOP or recommendation letters

If someone has slightly lower grades, what are the best ways to compensate and make the application stronger?

Would really appreciate any advice from people who were admitted. Thanks!

Cool clubs to be part of?

I will be an exechange ML student at kth till 2028 and I'm into AI, entrepreneurship and space. I would like to not only attend conferences, but to work on some cool real projects and get to know the local startup scene.

How hard is to get kth housing as EU citizen?

Everywhere I read it just says "difficult" but still didnt understand what is the rationale behind the assignment (like GPA, home country ecc...) and how actually unlikely it is.
