LVAC/LPAC

Hi, I joined LVAC again after not going since pre COVID. I know it’s busy and have struggled to get on machines or a squat rack so I’m just wondering if anyone has any insight in when is the best time to go? I also don’t mind walking a little farther to LPAC if there’s more availability there.

Thank you!!

When's Club Studio open?

The door was covered with a coming soon sign last week. I think they only cleared out the old X-Sport machines in late March or early April.

That Bears Ticket Scammer is back

Don't buy Savannah Bananas tickets from some rando here. This was my reply and, predictably, I was immediately blocked.

This is a scam. See these posts about bears tickets a few months ago. Same script. See my explanation there and ask yourself with this person is selling highly valuable seats exclusively on a few throughly random subs and not, like, something like the Cubs or Sox subs. The answer is that those subs are heavily moderated.

OP will reply to me with some milquetoast mild sob story then block me so I can't respond.

Boystown PSA - man trying to get into houses

I want to clarify i did post this elsewhere and it was GREATLY misinterpreted. i am posting this out of concern for the safety of women/members of the lgbtq+ community in boystown. There is a guy approaching women in his underwear pretending to be distressed to get into apartments.

I will first clairify that this man was not visibly on drugs or out of place and he did not give us a choice and forced us to engage (and I am not immediately escalating anything by screaming “NO” and running as someone earlier advised i don’t wanna get beat up lmfao).

so my gf and i (both girls in our early 20s) live in boystown and were walking home from a bar friday night when a young guy (also early 20s) appears wearing only socks and underwear and runs up to the apartment building next to us and fidgets with his phone and the keypad seemingly trying to get in. he approaches us and tells us his clothes were lost at scarlet and his friends won’t let him into their place and he doesn’t know what to do. Typical disoriented boystown gay guy behavior honestly. Then he asks if he can come with us back to our place. I already knew I was not letting a random dude in and I immediately don’t trust that so I give him the benefit of the doubt and offer to walk him back to the bar to get his clothes or to walk him to a bus or train and find him a shirt somewhere instead and he declines. We keep walking and he just straight up and tags along.

He’s not going anywhere so I start asking questions to confirm/dent my suspicions. He is pretty charismatic, did not seem to be on drugs or anything, had makeup on and kept complementing my gf and i’s make up. His answers are expectedly changing: he lives nearby but he also lives in Pilsen, his clothes were taken by straight people at a local gay bar but his friends also had them, his friends are still at the bar but they were at the apt earlier and it’s their birthday and scarlet is celebrating their birthday and he even name dropped a couple girls asking if we knew them (obvs no). i even (tried to extra test him) by making a joke that he’d fit right in at charlie’s in his clothes because he kept talking abt how we needed to get to our apt for clothes and he said he’d never been or heard of it . he also happened to still have a phone but no other personal belongings. The walk was short as we were close to our place already.

as we got onto our street I knew i needed a reason to stop us before we got to the apartment so I looked at his phone and he was switching between lyft (unordered just like driver locations) and google/apple maps over and over. we were in front of a well lit building so i pulled him and my gf over and said let’s stop here, i see you on lyft and my address is tough to get to on there (so that he knew i wasn’t oblivious and that he wasn’t getting near my home) so we stopped. he immediately starts talking abt how he just happened to be on there and he wasn’t actually going to order one since he didn’t have clothes and didn’t want to be outside or something? (Keep in mind everything I did after this was intentionally to offer solutions to his supposed problems that did not involve getting into our house so that he would either somehow take them and prove he was genuine or go away) so i offered my gf to go in and get clothes while i waited with him. this wasn’t good enough either. i told him that if he didn’t want clothes lyft would be fine it’s boystown and he needed to get home but that i couldn’t order one bc i didn’t have money so i am sorry. i even offered him a jacket at some point.

i then looked down and noticed he was still on lyft and the other maps app that, upon closer look, had like a weird blueish screensharey glow to it and i looked at my gf and told him id wait with him outside this random building for a lyft for as long as he wanted and smiled (again, to hopefully get him to back off without running and screaming and potentially inviting violence)

at that point, he gets jumpy and just goes oh sorry ride is here and RUNS off down the street in his underwear (i yelled have a nice night :)) and i hear a car door shut. i made my gf wait with me at the other building for a couple mins just in case, started walking to ours, saw a weird van idling, pulled out my phone like i was on a call, and made us enter through the side door.

I am posting this because guys… stay safe. I know this is unusual behavior but this goes out to any drunk people in boystown just trying to get home safe (because on a friday in boystown, none of this is all that unusual) and it’s quite literally perfectly placed in boystown especially when targeting other lgbtq people likely to want to protect eachother.

Looking for a male roommate for an awesome apartment near Wrigley Field - Available 8/1 - 4 bed/3 bath - $1,224/Month - 2,275 Sqft

It will only let me post one photo - more in the comments! The available room is the 12x10 on the lower level off of the living room.

12-month lease, 8/1/26- 8/1/27

We are unfortunately losing a roommate because he wants to take the next step in his relationship. I know, it's awful. =(

That said, we have one room available in our spacious two-floor duplex apartment, just a 5-minute walk from Wrigley Field (we've been debating this point - one of us says it's a 2-minute walk and another guy swears it's 5). This place is honestly massive. Although there are four of us, it’s essentially two apartments with shared living and kitchen space.

Here are the details:

Apartment Features:
· Location: 5-minute walk from Wrigley Field. There are two grocery stores within easy walking distance and several gyms within the immediate area.
· Transportation: Just blocks away from the Addison Red Line stop, the Southport Brown Line stop, and the 22 Clark Street bus
· Room Available: $1224/month on the lower level, closet. This bedroom is located beside the bathroom it shares with one other roommate.

Lease:
12-month lease (8/1/26 - 8/1/27)
Amenities:
· In-unit washer/dryer
· Central air
· Front patio
· Back deck
· Large kitchen with plenty of cabinet and counter space
· We cook/bake regularly, so we have the majority of major kitchen appliances and cookware
· More storage than we’ve known what to do with.
· Have a bike? Have 5 bikes? There’s so much room

Current Roommate Information:
4 bed/3 bath duplex apartment. There are 3 current roommates you would be living with - all are in their 20’s/30’s. Two are attorneys and one is a sports data analyst. We keep a clean and respectful living environment and currently has no pets. If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to reach out.

Who we're looking for:
Looking for a guy, late 20s/mid 30s ideally, who is easygoing and respectful of common areas. Looking for someone to lease between 8/1/26–8/1/27 as the 3 of us will be renewing. Must pass landlord background check/application approval.

27F Looking for Friends

hi there!!! I, 27F, just moved to the lakeview/wrigleyville (wv sub doesn’t seem to have activity) area two weeks ago and am looking for friends with similar interests! I love trying new restaurants, coffee shops, bakeries, and bars. Hobbies include: baking (and swapping baked goods), thrifting, going to concerts, reading, crafting, sports watching, walking, and a bunch of other things you’ll find out getting to know me. reach out if you want to be friends, first drink on me 🫶🏻

if there’s a different sub I should post this on, let me know! Figured neighborhood-specific was better than city-wide.

Grace St Bike Lanes

Hello,

Does anyone have more information about the bike lanes being put in on Grace St? They just got put in this week on both sides of the street and I’m concerned Grace is going to become a one way street. I can’t find anything online.

Thank you

Lakeview East coyote sighting!

I saw running down Barry at Sheridan & Barry at 7:15 pm 5/12. It ran very fast, wasn't sure if it was a loose dog until I got closer. Never seen one before in the city, nice surprise!

What did you wish you knew about your condo building before you bought?

Closed on a condo a few years back and have learned things since that I really wish I'd known going in — board dynamics, deferred maintenance, ignored simple preventative maintenance, surprise assessments, the difference between what's in the disclosure and what's actually true, what is 'association owned common/limited-common elements' vs what is owner responsibility.

Curious what other Chicago condo owners would tell their past selves. What's the question you wished you'd asked, the document you wished you'd read, or the red flag you wished you'd noticed?

My friend had signed a 1BR thinking he got a good deal. He talked to his neighbour after moving in and found they were paying $300/month less and also got a free month for the same layout.

We started thinking why we don't have a place we can check out others are actually paying, what the quality of life is before moving in, what issues there would be from the perspective of other people who lived there.

So i built a map for it. Free, and anonymous. Drop a pin with what you pay and see how you compare. See what concessions others got, when they moved in, how rent changed. See what people are saying about the place before you move in.

Did I just witness something?

Just saw the most odd sight on Cornelia Ave. off of Broadway and Pine Grove. There was an elderly man collapsed on the street, there was a man standing over him basically hitting him to stand up, with several people surrounding him (no one seemed to have a sense of urgency?). I called the police to come check on this unresponsive man and they still haven’t come (15-20 mins later). The one man tried to lift him up and was slapping his face, while 2 other men came out of 555 W. Cornelia with a MOVING DOLLEY to plop his almost lifeless body onto it to move him. They sped up to bring him inside when they heard sirens (unrelated).

Last I saw, he went into 555 W. Cornelia, basically unresponsive. Anyone have any idea if this man is okay? Did I just witness something I shouldn’t have?

Cat Outside

I saw this cat sitting outside 3530 N Broadway (across from the jewel, near the wake n bakery). he was just sitting outside, loafed. he has a semi reflective, colorful donut on his neck. he was just sitting there, looking mostly calm. Does anyone know whose cat this is?

this was around 10:15 tonight (5/11).

We're bringing LĪLĀ Coffee back to the Hamlin Park farmers market starting June 7th

We were at the Lakeview farmers market last year and we're coming back.

Every Sunday starting June 7th, 9am to 1pm, Hamlin Park. Come find us.

We make South Indian filter coffee. If you've never heard of it, it's not espresso, not pour over, not cold brew. It's a decoction, a completely different brewing tradition from South India. Arabica beans, real chicory, brewed slow through a metal filter. Bold, smooth, naturally sweet, never burnt. People who try it for the first time usually just go quiet for a second and then ask what it is.

We're LĪLĀ. Started by me and my partner Mel, both 24, based in Chicago. The idea came to us by never being able to find real filter coffee. So we went and built it the right way, flew to Chikmagalur in India, the birthplace of Indian coffee, met estate owners, picked a single origin specialty estate, and spent months getting the recipe right.

We were out at farmers markets for six to eight months last year getting real feedback from real people. That feedback is what confirmed we have something worth building.

Come by, try it, tell us what you think. We'll be there every Sunday through the season.

See you June 7th.
