Turkish citizenship

Hi everyone,

I posted here recently about an unclear citizenship situation and now I have new information that completely changes the picture — and raises even more questions.

According to official documents, I was removed from Turkish citizenship in 1999 as a minor when my parents left.

However, the consulate now claims that I was re‑naturalized in 2000, supposedly because my parents signed a simple “dilekçe” (a written request).

My question is: Is it legally correct that a minor can be re‑naturalized based solely on a dilekçe signed by the parents?

Has anyone here seen a case like this or knows whether a simple dilekçe could really trigger re‑naturalization — especially for a minor?

Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

Military service / Draft

I have Dual citizenship and got my turkish citizenship when i was 20. I want to travel to turkiye for holiday however I haven't postponed my askerlik. I dont have a turkish passport or turkish id-card. I only have my kimlik number. At the moment it is not possible to postponed my military service due to family disputes.

What will probably happen if I travel to turkiye on my other citizenship without postponing my militaryservice?

My Landlord Does Not Want to Return My Security Deposit

I signed a one-year lease on June 19, 2025. I paid a security deposit equal to two month's rent. The lease stated that I had to give 30 days' notice. Due to an unexpected last-minute developmen (i had an accident), I informed my landlord 27 days before the end of my lease that I would be moving out.

The landlord then asked me to vacate the property 10 days earlier so they could clean it. I moved out and left the keys on June 10.

Now my landlord wants to keep my entire two-month security deposit because I gave my notice three days late. Are they justified in doing this? How can I defend myself? What can I do? Since my rent is high, the amount of the two-month security deposit is very substantial. I am Turkish . I live in Sisli.

How to register as a Turkish persons son for inheritance ?

Hi everyone,

I was born and raised in the UK. My mother is British and my father was Turkish. My father died in 2014 and I was named as executor of his British will.

The issue is that I was never registered in Turkey as my father’s son. His death has been registered in Turkey, but I now need to prove to the Turkish authorities that I am legally his son.

My father had a brother and sister. Their parents, my grandparents, left behind two flats in Turkey. My father, his brother, and his sister each had an inheritance share. My father’s share should now pass to me, his brother’s share goes to his daughter, and his sister is still alive and keeps her own share.

I do not want Turkish citizenship. I only want to prove the parent-child relationship so I can deal with my father’s inheritance share.

Theres other problems. I think my cousin is renting the apartments out and keeping the income.

Turkish law is complicated and every firm iv contacted wants upwards to 10,000+ euros for paperwork and court case.

Turkey claims I’m still a Turkish citizen — even though my parents thought I was removed as a child. What does this mean for me (military service, citizenship, travel)?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently dealing with a pretty confusing situation and I’m hoping to get some insights from people familiar with Turkish law, citizenship issues, or military service regulations.

I was born and raised in Germany and hold German citizenship. My parents left Turkish citizenship years ago and were always convinced that, as a minor, I was automatically removed with them. That’s what I’ve been told my entire life.

Recently, I contacted the Turkish consulate just to check whether I still appear in their system. Their response was surprising:
→ According to the consulate, I have always been a Turkish citizen and was never removed.

My biggest concern now is military service and entering Turkey. I have never received any draft notice, summons, or military-related document, since I have never lived in Turkey.

My questions for you:
– Can someone living abroad really be detained at the Turkish border even if they never received any draft notice?
– Do I automatically have the status of “Yurtdışı Yükümlüsü” (overseas conscript)?
– Has anyone experienced something similar or has advice on how to handle this?

I’d appreciate any factual insights or personal experiences.
