How to get rid of pigeons specifically?

We keep bird food outside our window and love to see and hear different types of birds that come by. We also specifically put out food that pigeons don’t eat. But alas, they are still the ones dominating all the other birds. Anybody tried and succeeded in getting rid of pigeons specifically?

PS: I live in a joint family where my grandpa and niece stays with us. We’re not inhumane, but moreso concerned about the wellbeing of the people at home. And frankly, the other birds as well at this point.

My trick for falling asleep quickly

I'm someone who always used to struggle to fall asleep, but I've used this little trick over the last month which has worked every single time and I'm asleep within a few minutes.

When I'm ready, I pop on my eye mask, lie ok my side, close my eyes and then do an A to Z of a theme, for example, football teams.

A - Arsenal

B - Barcelona

Etc etc

If I get stuck on one for more than 10 seconds, I move onto the next. 90% of the time I am asleep before I hit Z.

If I do get to Z, I choose another category.

I've notice my eyes tend to move a bit rapidly when I'm in the zone of doing this. And my mind isn't thinking of anything else but this.

Lost my AC hose adapter in a roasting rental room. Fixed it with a takeout container and zip ties (zero damage/no tools).

My upstairs rental bedroom was a literal oven because the central AC up here is barely a whisper. I dug out a portable cooling unit, but the factory hose adapter was missing, and the heavy pipe kept tearing right off the machine. I raided the recycling bin and found a black takeout bowl that matched the diameter perfectly, but it had no tracks to lock into the unit.

Instead of ruining a rental appliance with screws or sticky tape, I poked holes in the bowl and threaded zip ties into a bicycle-spoke pattern. It is completely self-tensioning- the more the heavy pipe sags and pulls downward, the tighter the internal zip-tie matrix grabs the machine's grille. It is a 100% zero-damage fix that uninstalls with a single scissor snip when I move out. Rate my redneck engineering! haha, happy oven days , i mean summer days.

Mark your earbuds with a fine paint marker

My earbuds are rounded and nearly identical left to right. They're also silver grey so the markings are heard to see. So it always took me a sec to make sure the the right one goes in the right ear.

So I got a fine point paint marker in white and put a little dot of white on the right earbud. The paint is very opaque and shows up even on black plastic. It's also durable and doesn't rub off easily like silver Sharpies, etc.

You should blow on it to let it dry (paint markers take a minute to dry, and you'll probably have to shake it up first).

You can also use the marker to mark which side is up on your old USB-A cords, polarized extension cords, etc.

If your friend shows up with a new Apple product, ask them what they are doing with their old one.

I have gotten my last two IPhones and an Apple Watch for free or super cheap just by asking what friends are doing with their old ones.

This may seem like an obvious thing to some people, but it wasn’t to me until I asked.

Could probably work on other things but unfortunately/fortunately? Apple products are the most often I see.

Use safety pins to quickly and cheaply reduce the waist size of pants with a hook and bar closure

Also useful for when you like them to be smaller when standing up than sitting down as in my case: They need to fit snuggly in my waist so they won't sag.

Because I took a black safety pin it's hardly noticeable!

Deliberately also put it so the pin sticks outward, so that if it accidentally opens, it won't stick into you.

Any tips for keeping out the slugs?

I keep getting slugs in my kitchen and maintenance does nothing about it. I did slugs bait outside but it only does so much. This is getting gross.

Trash can Hack.

Pour Baking Soda in the bottom of your trash can before you put the bag in. It keeps the smell down, absorbs any moisture, and when it comes time to clean it out, you can just pour a cup of vinegar in before you start scrubbing! Then let it dry and repeat.

Been using this for years!

You can also put a box of baking soda in your fridge and freezer to keep funky tastes/smells to a minimum, just open half the box lid, and put it somewhere inconspicuous around the middle of the fridge.

Adding ½-1 tsp into brewed black tea when you're making sweet tea or unsweet tea, it will neutralize some of the bitter Tannins in the tea, giving it a mellower, smoother flavor profile. Just add it either with the sugar, or if you're brewing unsweetened tea, after removing the tea bags.

Some people may say I'm just looking for a Reaction, but those people should Can It, because they're just too Basic to understand.

Heat wave tip

A useful trick during a heat wave is to fill an empty 1 liter soda bottle with water, freeze it.... And then use it to pummel anyone irritating you.

Use glasses neck strap for Bluetooth earbuds during rigorous work

Dropped an earbud while doing some intense yardwork. Found it quickly, but was nervous it'd happen again-- and then this occured to me. 10/10 solution so far

How to cool down bedroom?

Hello. It's so hot, I only have a mounted AC in the living room but it doesn't reach my bedroom. I am amazing with cold, it doesn't bother me at all but my body makes up for it by being terrible with heat.

It's hot to the point I can't sleep.

I do not have a fan, bugs come in when I open the windows, I don't know what to do. It feels like I'm burning alive.

Thank you so much 💓

Edit: Thank you all for the valuable recommendations. I know a fan and a bug net for the windows is the best thing to do, but I'm ashamed to admit that my family does not have a budget to buy fans for everyone. It's quite expensive in my country. And it's late at night, any little thing is appreciated but the fan and window isn't something I can fix right now. Thank you so much

Take off the straw from spray bottles and use them upside down

This has two benefits that I can think of:

  1. You can spray underneath the rim of things like toilets.

  2. Children will not be able to use them right away.

Quit trying to beat DoorDash, Beat The App 🃏

Just draft a DoorDash driver.

Cash tip them once or twice, get their number, and every weekend text:

“Coach, you active tonight?”

Congratulations.

You’ve unlocked DoorDash+, Premium+, Director’s Cut.
The app still exists… but only as a menu now.

Driver wins.

You save a few bucks.

The only loser is whatever executive invented the “$6.99 because we felt like it” fee.

Shoo away bees/wasps by blowing on them

If you want to shoo away bees/wasps/hornets etc. without risking a sting just blow on them. They won't want to be in the wind but they also won't see it as a threat. It may take a couple of times before they get the hint not to land on your drink but it does work. I will point out not to get too close to them while blowing.

Turn on LG Air Conditioner without remote control?

My model is an LG ES-H126LLA0. I lifted the front cover to look for the manual power button, but there doesn’t seem to be one on this unit.

I’m going a little crazy in this summer heat and would really appreciate any help getting it turned on without the remote.

Would anyone happen to know how to do it? Thanks in advance!
