Hey everyone, so Edmonton finally decided to start warming up around May 10th, so I eagerly pulled my 1997 Lincoln Town Car out of the garage. Gave it a solid 20-hour trickle charge beforehand (probably overkill, but hey) and happily cruised to work. The engine sounded absolutely silky smooth on the drive in.

But of course, because it’s that project car life, when it was time to clock out, the old girl refused to start. My coworker brought out a 2000A boost pack, and then we tried a massive 4000A one. Neither could get her to fire up. Had to take an Uber home.

Day 2: Showed up to work and borrowed the shop forklift to give it a proper jump. Still nothing. Now I'm deeply questioning my life choices. If it's not a dead battery, what else could it be?

  • Did the classic Ford fuel pump inertia switch in the trunk trip? Checked it—completely normal.
  • Did I flood the engine? Did the standard Ford clear-flood routine (gas pedal to the floor) twice. Still nothing.
  • Is it a bad starter? No, the starter was cranking strong.
  • Is it the anti-theft (PATS) messing with me? Nope, the anti-theft light was off. Ubered home again.

Day 3: Brought my BMW smart trickle charger to work. Plugged it in for 2 hours while hooking up the 4000A booster at the same time. Still a hard no. Ubered home again (at this point, I'm practically an Uber VIP, they’re drowning me in discount coupons).

Day 4: Totally fed up, I ran down after work to sign up for an AMA Plus membership. Called 5 local repair shops—got rejected by 4, and only one agreed to eventually squeeze me in. To make things worse, AMA told me there's a 72-hour waiting period for towing on a new membership. Awesome.

Day 5: I was ready to throw in the towel. I was literally browsing Facebook Marketplace to see how much I could sell this thing for. But as a last-ditch effort, I hooked up my trickle charger again during my shift for a solid 5 hours. At the end of the day, I threw the shifter into Neutral instead of Park, gave it a crank... and holy crap, it fired right up on the first try! Absolutely unbelievable.

I know I need to replace the battery ASAP anyway, but can any mechanic or Ford Panther-platform expert explain what the hell actually happened here? Why did it reject a forklift jump and two massive boost packs for days, but a 5-hour trickle charge and shifting to Neutral did the trick?

Help a fellow Edmontonian out!

Does anyone know what this part is called and how you remove it?

Does anyone know how to remove this trim piece on 90-94+ Lincoln town cars? My car had a fabric top and it sat so long it rusted and needs to be replaced.

How big is the 1998 signature town car?

I live in nyc. Is it impossible to park it length wise. I live in a residential area. Lots of non driveway parking but at the same time lots of driveway curb driveway houses which 100% this car would not fit. I’m getting good deal on it. Let me know please

Somebody please buy this TV

If I didn’t buy my perfect condition white 03 TC a few months back, I’d take this in a heartbeat. Sharing for anyone looking. I’ve seen people here buy worse for more $. This is a great deal.

1988 Lincoln Town Car stalling when parking on a hill

My 1988 Lincoln Town Car is stalling when parking on hills. No other issues w/ the car. Runs like a dream generally speaking. I'm trying to figure out the smartest way to narrow down what the problem is without wasting a bunch of money. Appreciate any advice. So far I've read that it could be:

  1. Fuel pump
  2. Fuel filter
  3. Idle air control valve
  4. Throttle body
  5. Map Sensor/Map Sensor Line

Yet another issue

This has happened twice in the past 4 days. Driving along, immediately lose all power, immediately turns back on and the antilock light will stay on until I shut it off and back on. It also reset my sub settings both times. The sub part only happened to me before when the battery gave out completely due to sitting for a couple of months. Anyone ever experience this?

91 Lincon town car value

Hello all. Looking at purchasing a 91 town car and curious on the value . I know it will varry for the area but this one is in Canada and that’s where I am. I have a few classics but was looking at this one for my daily driver. It’s not a super cool car I know but these things are all but gone in Canada due to rot. This one has 110,000kms so around 60,000 miles I believe? 2nd owner has had it for 26 years.

In pretty much beautiful garage kept condition, I want a daily but not a boring daily and this one’s cheaper on gas than my V 10 Ford so here we are

Appreciate all the help as I just wanna make sure I’m paying a fair price for this vehicle as I really don’t know what these things are valued at

1999 Lincoln Town Car Signature

Hey guys, I found a low mileage Town Car Signature by me; seller is motivated and asking a very reasonable price imo. I don’t have any experience with these but have heard they’re incredibly reliable, it’s completely rust free and just needs a little head liner work. Do you think this is a good purchase idea in today’s economy or should I look at something newer?

First time out of the garage since March!

I love my Town Car, but she is definitely our third/auxiliary vehicle. She has been parked in the garage since March. I just brought her out quick this morning to get the fluids moving and to wash the garage dust off. I need to plan a roadtrip soon!

05 Lincon towncar cold air intake

I bought a 05 towncar signature last month, shes great and I want to install a cold air intake to make the engine sound louder. Transmission question..

So I have an 01 TC executive series. I just now hit 100,000 miles. Would it be beneficial to go ahead and get the transmission flushed filled & filter replaced? Would it be worth the effort? Or would it cause issues?..

97 town car

Hey guys I recently bought this 97 Lincoln and have a few questions , I bought it for 1,000 bucks and it wasn’t running when I purchased it , so I changed the fuel pump and it fired up right away , it sat for a year possibly two previous to me buying it , now it’s cranking and wants to start but will not . I changed the fuel filter the crankshaft position sensor and fuel pump relay , I’m almost certain it was the bullshit fuel pump I got off Amazon that went out, because when I turn the key to the on position I don’t hear nothing going on in the tank , I’m just curious if there is anything else I should look for , thanks in advance

Down for now, but might run again.

I've had this one the longest, 25yrs now. It began having intermittent starting problems, where it'd crank, but no ignition. Currently, it might fire up 1/100 times tried. Previously, wiggling the crank sensor plug, would let it run again. Replaced plug and sensor, but even worse now, lol. Other items replaced while down, are column ignition switch, both coil paks, cam sensor, TPS, IAC, starter, and swapped in the ign module from the other running one beside it. No change. Fuel pump was also done last year, as it was getting flaky when lower on fuel.

Any ideas? Runs like new, or not at all. 93 Exec, throws code 226 when not working, also a code 10,which ain't in my book. System pass with 111. Everything I replaced, made it run better when running, but made it less likely to run, which has me baffled.

Explosion in prices and interest?

What is going on with the prices of TCs and GrandMs? I'm regularly looking online and the asking prices are above 6, 7k for anything, any trim even with over 100kmiles. Is this the actual going price or just facebook silliness? Above is mine, bought for 4500 with 65kmiles in 2022. It seems like now id need 10,000 dollars. its kind of disappointing since one day I might need to replace it..

Coolant leak

Hey Lincoln fans, I got an 06 with 116k miles.

There appears to be crusty residue on the passenger side mating surface of the intake manifold.

Is this sign of a leak from the intake manifold? Or potentially something to do with the water pump?

I also noticed crystalized splotches all over the front of the engine by the accessory belt. Nothing seems fresh just dry and crusty.

Never had heating issues with the car since I took ownership at around 80k miles.
