Maspeth Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table
I started the Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual after I started putting stuff outside that my family did not want anymore and we couldn't sell on the Marketplace. I noticed the items would disappear and my neighbors would bring items to replace them. My friend who helps shut ins in Glendale brings over whatever food she has left and leaves that on the table for people to take who visit my mutual aid table.
Thursday August 6th, I received 6 deliveries of donations (clothes, food, toys, housewares, books, DVDs). By Saturday August 8th the table is empty.
Items that are in high demand:
FOOD FOR PEOPLE OR PETS
CLOTHES
TOILETRIES
SCHOOL SUPPLIES
DIAPERS FOR BABIES & ADULTS
TOYS
BACK PACKS, LUNCH BOXES & POCKET BOOKS
Books really don't go on my table, so when I get a donation of them I wait a few days then I bring them down to the Little Free Library in PS 153's school yard.
Donations can be dropped off, and you can take what you need 24 hours a day & 7 days a week:
5938 60TH ROAD, MASPETH
Donations can be dropped off at certain businesses during business hours. Just label them Maspeth/Ridgewood Mutual Aid Table.

Han Dynasty Shut Down (LIC) - Spicy Moon taking over
I think they are sister restaurants so not surprising but I noticed there wasn't really any announcement for Han Dynasty shutting down. Will really miss their food.

LIC Peeps: Selling a few things
Moved to the hood a few months ago and bought a bunch of random things I thought I needed or would fit. Now that I've been here a minute I have a better understanding of what I don't need so just trying to sell a few things! I have a 5.0 Star Rating on FBMP but that's still not enough to get people's attentions, sadly. So here goes nothing!
DISCLAIMER: Since there is no historical data on anyone's selling/buying history, I will respectfully be asking for a 50% deposit on anything so that I know you're serious and not trying to swindle me. I've seen two attempted scooter sales turn into scooter robberies and I refuse to be another statistic.
- Sony Speaker - LINK HERE
It's in my storage unit, untouched and used once. I threw out the box because I thought I was gonna keep it, then took a month to set up my record player, only to then realize I don't need a speaker this tall, and would rather a table top one. Used it LITERALLY once
SELLING: $125
RETAILS: $299
IKEA SINNERLIG Pendany Lamp: LINK HERE
Please take note that this is not a lamp shade, it is a literal lamp that requires hard wiring. Don't make the mistake I made, hence being sold. Also currently living in my storage unit.
SELLING: $30
RETAILS: $99
Genuine Marble Side Table: LINK HERE
Prob what I will regret the most letting go of. For marble, it is an incredible piece and so well priced. I bought it on sale from $900 to $500 and I genuinely believe it should be worth so much more. I've already considered moving it to another part of the apartment, but it is just a little too big for LIC apartments unfortunately.
SELLING: $400
RETAILS: $900
Bookshelf from Wayfair. Naturally no longer available on the site, but I can send you exact measurements and more photos if you'd like. This is an older photo, but this also went straight into my storage unit.
SELLING: $30
RETAILS: $150

Beware of Phone Robbers
Just a PSA... make sure you stay alert when walking around. Two people wearing ski masks on a motorcycle drove onto the sidewalks and tried to grab phones from people's hands. This happened this evening closer to the ferry terminal.
Moving to Hunters Point
My wife and I are moving to Hunters Point in September. I’m hoping to put together a list of cool restaurants, cheap bars, and free/inexpensive activities in the area. Also feel free to drop expensive activities as well so we can save them for a special occasion :)

Ladies, please be careful of your surroundings! (And this creep.)
Witnessed creep behavior today. Took the Q65 today to Flushing on a rather crowded bus. I noticed this guy standing rather closely behind this girl and initially thought they were together. They definitely weren't, and he had been standing directly behind her all up in her personal space, leaving little to no space between them for quite some time. (I don't know when it started but it was long enough for me to notice and I'm usually in my own head.) When there were spots freed up, he continued to stand directly behind her and did not move. At one point, I witnessed him holding his phone (with the screen turned on) at hip level (I could not confirm if he was taking photos of her or trying to get upskirt shots).
Bus pulled up to her stop and I watched to make sure that she was able to get off the bus safely since his arm was in her way from accessing the back exit. I ended up getting off the bus as well (I was intending to get off at the stop after hers) and talked to her to tell her what happened and to tell her to be more careful. She had no idea this guy was standing behind her for quite some time and was very uneasy (I was too after finding out she was a minor).
Edit: For those asking why I didn't say something in the moment, I would have had it not been for my own personal experiences. I am petite. I have no way of defending myself without getting hurt. I've been beaten for speaking up before. Please don't get me wrong, if I was strong enough, physically bigger, or even taller, I would've stepped in. I've grown up in a violent household. It's not always the best idea to speak up in the moment. It was not my intention to escalate the situation. I don't know if this man would have reacted violently. I couldn't tell if he would have backed off and moved away if I said something.
He was closer to the bus driver than I was and the front of the bus was packed. There were multiple opportunities that opened up, allowing him to move away from her. However, at one stop, people eventually got on the bus from the back.
The girl and I exchanged contact information. She is alright and asked me for the photo when I initially approached her about the information.
The best thing you can do for yourself is try to be aware of your surroundings.

Intro to Oil Painting class this Thursday in LIC!
🎨 Ever wanted to try oil painting but had no idea where to start?
We're hosting an Intro to Oil Painting class this Thursday, August 20th at On the Easel Studios in Long Island City.
You don't need to have painted before. You don't need to own a bunch of expensive supplies. And you definitely don't need to consider yourself an "artist."
We'll walk through the basics of working with oils in a relaxed, approachable setting—and you'll actually get to spend the evening painting rather than just watching someone demonstrate.
📍 On the Easel Studios
4301 22nd Street, Long Island City
📅 Thursday, August 20th
🎨 All supplies included
🖌️ No experience necessary
If you've ever looked at an oil painting and thought "I'd love to know how to do that," this is a good place to start.
Come curious. Leave with a painting.
Feel free to ask any questions about the class in the comments!

Reliable Doctor who won't try to sell me every product and unnecessary treatments?
Hi all
I've been in the country for around a year and still trying to get the hang of the healthcare system here. Ive been going to one doctor in Manhattan and he tried to sell me weight loss drugs, vitamins and all kinds of things I really don't need.
The one preventative drug I had in the UK, he will only prescribe me 30 days worth. I then have to call and he charges me each time to refill. I've had this drug before in the US (Boston) on repeat prescription but he refuses to do this.
I'm just wondering if anyone can recommend a decent Primary Care Physician who listens and won't try and sell me everything.
Thanks!

Delivery driver from Court Square Diner keeps parking on the sidewalk after hitting a pedestrian; police and council aren't acting
Hi everyone,
After multiple attempts to get this addressed through official channels like the police and Julie Won's office, the same car has still been spotted at the pavement. So here's a video of the same delivery driver who knocked someone down and continues to park on the same sidewalk.
The point of this post is to make sure LIC residents living near or commuting through Court Square are aware of this and stay careful on that stretch of pavement. If you live in the area, share this with your neighbours and friends.
TL;DR: A Court Square Diner delivery driver hit a pedestrian while parking on the sidewalk, and is still parking in that exact spot. Please be careful on that stretch if you're walking to the subway.
If the car shows up again and you're fed up (and the subway's taking forever), here's the 311 complaint link:
https://portal.311.nyc.gov/servicerequest-create/What?caid=5d0f9039-d4d6-e811-a96b-000d3a1c5716&kasid=fb4f175b-3e8c-f111-ab10-000d3a8d2069
Or just post pictures when you see these delivery cars (MGZ 5409, LGL 9635) parking there. Let's keep a lookout for one another.
One more thing: there's a barber shop across from that sidewalk with security footage, but they only keep about 2 days of it. So if anyone is ever hurt there (hopefully never), act fast to request that footage before it's overwritten.
